ALPHA’S REGRET: FALSE MATE, TRUE LUNA
TRUE 99
bChapter /b99
I didn’t know why he bwould /bsuddenly bring bup /bAdrian, but I didn’t want to discuss this matter with him.
While eatingb, /bI asked: “About bmy /bfriend’s situationb…/bb” /b
“Already had her releasedb./b” Ferris pausedb, /bthen said coldly, “Tell your friend not bto /bpost random things in the futureb./bb” /b
bMy /bhand holding the spoon tightened.
bAfter /ball that talk, he was still protecting bAshley/b.
I looked upb, /bmy tone calm but firm: “My friend wasn’t making bbaseless /busations. Ashley’s bso/bb–/bcalled ‘new drug‘ not only giarized our form but also hasn’t undergoneplete clinical testing. Once it hits the marketb, /bthousands of patients will suffer.b” /b
Ferris smiled disdainfullyb: /bb“/bYour friend works in mediab, /bright? Then she should know better what should and shouldn’t be written.”
The mocking smile on his bface /bstung my nerves.
Ferris didn’t notice my reaction and continued: “Besides, with her level, fighting awsuit against my legal departmentb, /bthe probability of losing bis /bone hundred
?ercent.”
Jang!
couldn’t listen anymore and mmed down my bowl.
I’m full.”
got up to leaveb. /b
Only then did Ferris realize I was angry. He couldn’t help but get up and chase after me, grabbing my wrist.
Why are you angry?”
shook him off: b“/bI’m not angry. You’re right about everything. My friend and I were too naive to think exposing the truth would have any result.”
She just wrote an article exposing drug problems and was sent to the police station for a day.”
ause?b” /b
erris bwas /bslightly stunned and didn’t refute, instead softening his voice: “I really didn’t know the ‘rumor–monger‘ Ashley mentioned was your friend.”
stopped talking and just looked at him quietly.
erris seemed suppressed by my silence for the first time, saying in a low voice: “Then tell me, what should I do topensate her?”
Should I have Ashley apologize to her?b” /b
looked at him with some surprise.
That was the person he protected most–would he really be willing?
ust as I hadn’t had time to answer, there was a light cough from the doorway.
We both looked over to see Miles standing at the entrance with aplex expression, having obviously heard quite a bit.
Ferris’s face immediately darkened.
I took the opportunity to shake off his hand and left the vi without looking back.
Shortly after arriving home, Cynthia sent a message saying she had been released from the police station.
Only then did I breathe a sigh of relief.
But before I could settle down to sleep, my phone rang again. It was Evan calling, saying Liz wanted to go camping this week.
I paused: “The overnight kindb?/b”
“Yes.” Evan said: “Don’t worry, I’ll have people protect your safety. I’ll prepare sleeping bags, tents, heaters–you just need toe.”
I hesitated because I’d been too busy recently, gathering evidence of Ashley’s giarism everywhere and trying to find ways to prevent that batch of drugs from entering the market. I really didn’t have time to go camping.
Evan noticed my hesitation and askedb: /b“What’s wrong? Don’t have timeb?/bb” /b
1 fell into thought.
Ferris would most likely not interfere in Ashley’s affairs–this wasn’t the first time he’d turned a blind eye to her various outrageous actions. But what about Evan? Would he interveneb? /b
Strictly speaking, Evan didn’t belong to Silver Moon Pack. His background was mysterious, with businesses throughout the country, and his whereabouts were elusive. No one really knew where he was or what he was doing.
But one thing was undeniable–he was indeed very powerful.
It’s just… he used to dislike me. Cold, distant, even once filled with hostility toward me.
Now, would he be willing to help meb? /b
