CHAPTER 28: 28-MY EX IS STAYING OVER

Iris:

"You wanted a cool name, right? A blend of two names? Let’s go with this one," he hissed, making me anxiously look away from his face.

I didn’t know why he had to come so close just to speak to me. I heard him chuckle and then step back.

"Next time, if I find anyone flirting in my company, there will be consequences. Let’s stay professional," he muttered, finally letting the elevator door open as he stepped aside and let me walk out.

I didn’t waste a second. I hurried to my office, stormed inside, and shut the door behind me.

Leaning against it, I took a few deep breaths and noticed beads of sweat forming around my temples.

It made no sense. I hated this man. So why the hell was I sweating so badly?

After Kash’s little outburst in the elevator, I didn’t want to see his face again. I was told they were preparing a contract for the name he suggested.

I didn’t understand why he had to include both our names in the title, but I guessed it was fine. Maybe he just wanted his name there, and honestly, I wanted mine too, so I agreed to it.

I left for home since there wasn’t much work left to do at the office.

"Mommy, you’re early!"

The best part about coming home was always seeing my children smile and jump up and down for me.

They always acted like they’d been imprisoned and were finally released when I arrived, even though that wasn’t the case.

I’d been watching them through the cameras, and they’d seemed to have fun all day.

My mother had been out shopping. It had been a long time since she visited any of the packs because she would have been caught wandering around without an ID.

But now she had one, a temporary pass, so she was enjoying it, visiting brands and buying clothes.

I held both Amy and Colin close, hugging them tightly while looking at Scarlett, who was smiling from ear to ear. This time, my kids didn’t complain about her bothering them.

"I won’t be eating lunch. I’ll just wait for dinner," I told Scarlett as I walked away with my kids.

They’d already eaten, and I’d seen my mother return late with food bags, so I guessed she’d eaten outside.

Now she was resting in her room while I spent time with the kids, thinking that would be it for the day.

I was having a great time with them, wearing blue shorts and a white tank top, not caring about any visitors until I heard someone at the doorway of my children’s room.

"Kids."

As soon as he said that, both of them turned and jumped off the bed, running straight toward Kash. I turned and stared at him in disbelief.

He’d come home and come straight to the guest house, still in the same suit as earlier. He hadn’t even changed.

"I’ve been missing my kids," he said as he lifted both of them into his arms.

"Mommy, look! He can carry us both! And you know what? Daddy is so powerful—he can turn into a werewolf and carry us on his back. He said he’ll do it soon!" Colin said, looking so excited while talking about his father—the perfect, powerful alpha Kash.

"I don’t think your mother knows that. She thinks everyone else is better than your daddy," Kash commented, dragging my kids into a personal war.

"No, Mommy, that’s not true! Daddy is better than everybody else!"

And just as expected, my kids instantly started defending their father, who gave them a very fake pout.

"No, Daddy, you are the best," Amy said softly, touching his cheek. I noticed how his pout slowly faded.

Kash stared at her for a moment before turning his face away. I guessed he finally realized he didn’t deserve the kind of love these kids were giving him.

He hadn’t been there and it was because of his own actions.

"Oh Kash, what brings you here?"

And then, as annoying as it was, my mother also arrived. Two annoying people in one frame.

"I wanted to spend some time with the kids. I was hoping I could eat dinner with them," he said pleasantly, as if he were the kindest, gentlest man ever.

However, his words and his request made me instantly get up from the bed and walk toward him.

I took Colin out of his hands, then Amy, putting them down and patting their backs to go collect their toys. Then I faced Kash to respond to his request.

"I don’t think that will be a good idea. I don’t want them out of my sight for a minute," I said, watching him place his hands on his waist, looking like a giant airplane with his elbows sticking out.

"Alpha King Kash, I respect you and everything. But Iris is not wrong. You need to understand that she doesn’t feel comfortable here. I mean, this was the reason she ran away in the first place," my mother said, taking my side in the nicest way possible.

And whenever she took my side, I knew it meant she had a game in mind.

She added confidently, "However, it doesn’t mean you can’t sit and eat with us. How about the kids see their parents get along well, even if they’re not getting along as a couple? Maybe just as their parents. So, I invite you for dinner with us tonight."

My mother’s request made Kash’s face soften. He gave her a side glance before looking at me.

I tried to signal my mother to stop, to take her words back, but when Kash caught me, I immediately stopped. It was too late.

And as expected, the minute he realized I didn’t want it, he made sure it happened.

"That’s very kind of you. Sure, I can stay until dinner. And after that, I’ll leave," he said.

And just like that, he decided to stay for the rest of the day, making sure I’d be stuck seeing his face and getting irritated the entire time.
