Capítulo 844: Chapter 365: Finish
The missile attack caught Assad and his Haitian black soldiers off guard. The loud explosion from the landfill was clearly audible even in the core area.
Assad snapped back from his shock and immediately called his deputy, the Colonel, to ask about the situation, but there was no response from the other side.
“Where did these missiles come from? How could they possibly have missiles?” Assad pounded the table in disbelief and anger.
The personal soldiers in the command room exchanged looks, not daring to breathe loudly.
The technical director stepped forward reluctantly to analyze, “General, only warships and battle ships can launch such missiles. Based on radar information, the missile range is at least 200 kilometers, meaning there indeed is a battle ship at sea. We misjudged the enemy’s firepower equipment.”
“You don’t need to tell me that? I want to know where they got the battle ship from!” Assad’s face turned a mix of green and white, unable to figure it out.
“I, I don’t know…” The technical director was also puzzled, unable to figure out which South American country could be so extravagant to acquire such a thing just to attack Solo Island. Could it be the US Army?
“General, if the enemy can launch two missiles, there definitely will be a third and a fourth. Our firepower can’t possibly withstand such a scale of attack. I suggest negotiating with them might be better.” The technical director, recognizing the reality, advised Assad to compromise.
“Do you want me to surrender to those unknown people? Hand over my treasures? That’s impossible!!” Assad was furious.
He immediately ordered, “Get in touch with the soldiers at the Vault area to see how many survivors there are. I don’t believe no one survived. Those two missiles only precisely hit our equipment and couldn’t have that much power!”
“Understood.”
Seeing Assad still intent on resisting, driven mad with determination, the technical director feared he’d be shot and quickly mobilized other technicians to contact the front-line soldiers. Soon, information came back.
On the other side, although the Haitian troops suffered heavy casualties, they were not completely wiped out and still had some fighting power. A captain hiding in an armored car to avoid the blast immediately used his radio to call for aid: “General, our equipment vehicles and helicopters are severely damaged. Out of over two hundred people, only a few dozen have survived. We have no fighting power left! If the enemy launches another strike, we can’t withstand it!”
“Captain, what do you mean, asking me to surrender? I am the General; this island is mine. And I haven’t sacrificed yet, so you should obey my orders. Gather the remaining forces and prepare for battle!” Assad ordered angrily.
Turning, he contacted the Leaf Greenhouse Area and the drug processing plants, summoning those guards to abandon protecting the island’s drug assets and move closer to the Vault area for reinforcement.
The Haitian soldiers stationed elsewhere hesitated upon receiving the order, and the leading captain questioned his sanity.
“The enemy launched missiles to bomb our forces, causing heavy casualties, even killing the Colonel. Yet, the General still wants us to protect the Vault? This is an unequal military conflict. Without helicopters, without air superiority, we’re just going to die!”
They resisted Assad’s demands from the bottom of their hearts, developing a reluctance to fight. However, they couldn’t directly refuse his orders, so they resorted to going through the motions without genuine effort.
The soldiers guarding the Vault, after suffering a bombing round, embodied cowardly lizards, refusing to comply despite the General’s order to hold firm.
Many survivors threw down their guns, unwilling to risk their lives despite the Captain’s call to arms.
“The enemy fired missiles, breaking through our lines. Why stay and guard this broken place? To die? They can launch a second strike; we have no countermeasures! Staying here means nothing but death!”
“The General’s money is his, not ours. We barely earn any military pay here; why risk our lives?”
“You fight if you want! I’m not wasting my life on this!”
The soldiers threw down their weapons and quit. The Captain, seeing this, felt helpless but had no choice but to relay their thoughts to Assad.
“Bastards!! For years of raising soldiers, they’re used only once! Now that Solo Island is in crisis, and this is when I need you to give your lives, you choose to desert? Have I not treated you well enough?” Assad, upon receiving the news, was so angry that he nearly fainted.
Although he knew the Haitian blacks’ character, rooted in a corrupt and impoverished country, trusting them for his life at critical moments was unreliable, he didn’t expect them to be this unreliable!
