Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields
Chapter 45 Saving People
CHAPTER 45: CHAPTER 45 SAVING PEOPLE
One hour, two hours...
After who knows how long, Xiaochuan finally killed that mutant zombie with Lin Yi’s guidance.
"How much experience points did you get?"
"Fourteen points," Xiaochuan immediately answered.
Lin Yi rubbed his chin.
He himself gained seven points of experience, it seems assisting in a kill earns you one-third of the experience, not bad.
After killing the mutant zombie, Xiaochuan successfully leveled up to Level 2 and gained attribute points.
Lin Yi told him that Power increases the force of arrows, Agility makes his bow shooting and escape speed faster, and how to allocate points is up to him.
Then Lin Yi handed the green Reward Egg dropped by the mutant zombie to Xiaochuan.
Xiaochuan took the Reward Egg, looked at his boss with a puzzled face, and said, "Boss, this is..."
"Once we get back, you can give it to Melanie," Lin Yi shrugged and walked forward, "provided we keep moving ahead."
"Thank you, boss!" Xiaochuan was deeply moved, a cheerful smile on his face, and hurried to keep up.
Five minutes.
The two walked along the desolate street, and everywhere they looked, they couldn’t see even the shadow of a zombie.
Just as Lin Yi was puzzled, Melanie informed him through the earpiece that in a building ten meters away, a family was hiding in the basement, seemingly about to be broken into by zombies.
Melanie’s tone was a bit anxious: "Boss, they might—"
"Are you suggesting that I risk my life for a bunch of strangers?" Lin Yi’s voice was cold.
"I..." Melanie was momentarily at a loss for words.
"Xiaochuan can’t use the bow indoors, and I don’t want to face a whole group of zombies alone."
"I understand..." Melanie’s tone was somewhat disappointed, and Xiaochuan, listening on the side, also had a look of dejection on his face.
Lin Yi pondered for a moment, his expression still stern: "Melanie, give me a detailed analysis of the building first, then I’ll decide whether to assist."
"Okay, boss!" Melanie’s voice was instantly filled with energy.
She quickly scanned all the rooms in the building with the camera.
Upon investigation, it was found that there were nine zombies near the basement entrance and seven more in the apartment.
This building had been looted before, but the plunderers only took some basic necessities, so there were still quite a few useful supplies inside.
In the basement, there was a man wearing military camouflage, obviously a soldier, with a French-made FAMAS assault rifle placed nearby.
Next to the man were his wife and two children, and the situation didn’t look good.
A military warrior?
Hmm... should be worth saving.
Thinking this, Lin Yi turned to Xiaochuan and said, "I’ll handle this," then teleported him back to the shelter.
Then Lin Yi, holding a pistol and sword, strode towards the apartment building.
As soon as he entered, Lin Yi found himself in a spacious yet dimly lit place.
The layout here was extremely strange, with six apartment doors on each side of the wide corridor.
At the end of the corridor, there was a massive metal door, behind which was the passage to the basement.
In front of the metal door, a few zombies were restlessly roaming.
They occasionally slammed their bodies against the metal door, which was covered with ghastly bloody handprints, indicating their strong desire to break in, though they never succeeded.
Lin Yi smacked his lips; this looked exactly like a horror movie’s haunted house meant to scare people.
"Bang!" A crisp gunshot rang out.
Followed by several more "bang bang bang..."
After eight shots, eight zombies fell to the ground.
At the same time, a notification sound echoed in Lin Yi’s mind:
[Congratulations! You’ve reached Level 6]

Now, Lin Yi’s base Power and Agility were both 16 points, thanks to the armor bonus, these attributes were boosted to 20.
In comparison, he possessed double the speed and strength of an average adult male!
Knock, knock, knock!
Lin Yi knocked on the metal door, shouting loudly, "Are you still alive down there?"
"Is it a human?" A hoarse male voice responded from behind the metal door, with a hint of caution.
"No, I’m a cunning and talking mutant, trying to lure you out of your hiding... grumble, chomp..."
Lin Yi sarcastically retorted as always, even mimicking a few zombie roars.
"We have nothing to offer you..."
"Do you think I care about getting anything from you? If not for the pretty boy and the little black girl hoping I’d save you, do you think I would bother to come?"
Lin Yi was a bit annoyed, he raised his fist as big as a sandbag, and "bang bang bang" pounded a few huge dents into the metal door.
Then, he shouted inside, "Don’t dawdle with me, open the door or you’ll fend for yourselves."
The man inside the basement was silent.
But soon, a woman’s weak voice echoed, "Dear... what... did he say?"
After the woman spoke, the sound of her heavy breathing and coughing could still be heard.
"He said someone wanted him to rescue us, and if we don’t open the door, he’ll leave..."
"We have to trust him, even if he’s a plunderer, we have nothing he can take..."
The man weakly argued, "But we still have lives, you and the children’s lives."
"Dear... we only have a day or two left, you know that."
"..."
Soon, the metal door slowly opened.
A pungent stench of human waste wafted out as the door opened.
Lin Yi’s expression changed dramatically, and he quickly backed up a few steps.
At this moment, a man peeked out from behind the door, his face full of exhaustion and haggardness.
When he saw the dead zombies on the ground, his eyes widened in shock, asking in disbelief, "Just you? You... killed all of them?"
With the stench still lingering, Lin Yi didn’t want to speak, simply nodded casually.
Then, he sized up the man coming out of the basement.
He was tall, but now emaciated, filthy all over, and gave off a terribly foul odor...
The only bright spot was the unwavering determined look in his eyes.
Lin Yi withdrew his gaze and asked the man, "Are you some sort of soldier?"
"I was..." the man replied, still watching warily, as if guarding against a trap.
Lin Yi looked into the man’s eyes, posing a tempting question: "Do you want sufficient food and a stable life?"
"Of course I do! But... I won’t do anything I think is wrong," the man replied.
Despite his dire situation, a certain unwavering belief still flickered in his eyes.
Lin Yi smiled faintly, with a hint of provocation: "Even if it means letting your family starve to death?"
