Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields
Chapter 51: Expansion of the Commercial Building
CHAPTER 51: CHAPTER 51: EXPANSION OF THE COMMERCIAL BUILDING
Inside the Louvre, in front of the apartment, an undercurrent surged.
The short, chubby bureaucrat tentatively asked, "You guys... why do you want the bodies of zombies—"
"That’s a company secret," Lin Yi coldly interrupted him, his tone unfriendly.
But seeing the other person’s face turn as pale as paper, Lin Yi pretended to think for a moment and vaguely hinted, "Don’t worry too much; it has nothing to do with potatoes."
Upon hearing this, the short, chubby bureaucrat shivered violently, his eyes unconsciously drifting toward the mountain of potatoes inside the room.
Thinking that zombie bodies might be used as fertilizer for planting potatoes made him feel nauseous.
However, the harsh reality forced him to suppress his inner discomfort.
In order to obtain more potatoes, after hesitating for a long time, he stammered, "But... uh... can you send another batch of goods?"
"How much?" Lin Yi asked calmly.
The short, chubby bureaucrat almost couldn’t wait: "Of course, the more, the better... if possible..."
"In three to four days, I can send another three tons."
"Good, good, good! That should be enough." The short, chubby bureaucrat grinned, almost moved to tears with excitement.
However, just as he was basking in joy, Lin Yi mercilessly poured cold water on him.
"If I find cameras in the room again, the deal’s off; this is your only chance."
These words were like a heavy hammer, smashing the short, chubby bureaucrat back to reality.
He hurriedly stepped forward, trying to find an excuse to defend himself.
Lin Yi didn’t want to hear his hypocritical political rhetoric and turned to leave.
After all, he had given him a chance; if the bureaucrat tried tricks again, it would backfire.
Half an hour later, everyone returned to the Shelter.
By then, Chen Youyou had already prepared a sumptuous feast.
The table was full of potato pancakes, potato stew with dried meat, vegetables, plain boiled potatoes with lots of salt, and a top-grade salted fish.
Chen Youyou suddenly blinked and asked, "Boss, did you find anyone who knows how to brew beer?"
Lin Yi’s smile froze instantly upon hearing this. It was only then he realized he’d completely forgotten such an important matter.
After the hearty dinner, everyone parted ways to attend to their tasks.
Lin Yi took a hot shower and then went to bed to rest.
After a tiring day, both physically and mentally...
The next morning, sunlight bathed the fields of the Shelter, and the wheat was ready to be harvested.
Everyone was excited because wheat could be turned into flour and refined into maltose to create more delicious foods.
Like drool-worthy bread!
Aside from Lin Yi and the Chen sisters, the other Shelter members were nearly ecstatic about bread.
It was as if bread was a part of their lives!
Lin Yi calculated that harvesting the wheat into sheaves wouldn’t take much time.
But separating the grains from the wheat sheaves would take at least a week, not to mention the complex subsequent processes.
Of course, the bigger problem now was that no one in the Shelter knew how to make flour.
"But I want to bake bread..." Sylvie said, clinging to Lin Yi, gazing at him longingly.
The other girls saw Lin Yi’s silence and crowded around him, hugging and holding him, and Annie even bit him gently.
Lin Yi exclaimed, "Ouch," with a helpless look.
Currently, the only feasible solution is to sell the wheat sheaves directly.
Then buy some books on ’From Wheat to Flour to Food Making’ to learn from, or even find an expert in this field.
Only then would it be possible to make the bread and other baked goods everyone longed for.
The girls, though somewhat disappointed, had no choice but to accept this reality.
Soon, everyone worked together to harvest more than a ton of wheat sheaves.
Lin Yi headed to the laptop.
The Shelter had now upgraded to level 7, unlocking larger fields and the ability to merge and split them.
After a brief thought, he purchased three medium-sized fields and merged them with the existing wheat fields.
As a result, he created a plot covering 760 square yards, deciding to dedicate all these fields to planting wheat.
"Don’t look at me like that, as if I’m the bad guy," Lin Yi said, seeing the girls gathered in front of the new field, looking at him with longing eyes.
He couldn’t help but laugh and explained, "The wheat yield is low, which means we need to plant more. Don’t worry; the Shelter will soon have plenty of labor force."
After lunch.
Lin Yi took Chen Youyou to the Scar-faced Leader’s commercial building camp.
The journey was quite relaxed, without encountering a single zombie along the way, like a leisurely stroll.
Originally, this camp occupied just one commercial building, but now it almost covered half the commercial park.
The camp’s area was at least three times larger than before, and the population had grown to five times its original size.
From afar, the survivors rushed about; some carried supplies, others wielded tools, a bustling scene.
What shocked Lin Yi the most was the presence of construction vehicles in the camp, clearly preparing to build several watchtowers.
Surely, the Scar-faced Leader was a talent, expanding the camp to such a scale in such a short time.
No doubt, given time, not only could they compete with forces like the True God Brotherhood or Paradise Palace, but possibly even rival official organizations like the Louvre.
Chen Youyou heard Lin Yi sigh and said with a smile, "Boss, if we want to expand and recruit talents like him, it would be quite useful, right?"
Lin Yi squinted at her, tapping her forehead gently, "Don’t ever use mind sensing on me again."
Chen Youyou wasn’t the smartest girl in the world, but she was perceptive and adept at reading people’s personalities—especially after acquiring mind sensing skills.
Chen Youyou, feeling a bit tired, leaned partially on Lin Yi and complained about Scar-faced Leader Hubert taking so long to appear.
Lin Yi remained unhurried.
Now, not only Immanuel from the Sacred Heart Cathedral but also the Scar-faced Leader were surely busy.
With the Louvre as a precedent, if they didn’t expand their forces and enhance their strength quickly, they might soon be wiped out by the massive zombie horde.
Yet, speak of the devil...
The one-eyed old general appeared, striding towards them with several soldiers.
"Lin Yi! Glad you came." The Scar-faced Leader approached his most admired merchant and shook his hand.
He looked very fatigued but managed to force a smile, clearly familiar with dealing with the elite, knowing to always maintain a smile.
Lin Yi also smiled, "Look at how they’re wearing you out! Have a drink."
As he spoke, he handed over a bottle of 1.5-liter Shelter Spring Water.
"Water?" The Scar-faced Leader’s eyes were filled with confusion.
"This water has medicinal properties and can quickly restore physical strength and heal injuries."
The Scar-faced Leader drank a few sips, and his eyes instantly lit up, feeling refreshed immediately!
He handed the half-full bottle to a soldier, particularly instructing him to keep it and not drink it.
Then he turned to Lin Yi and asked:
"Did you bring the goods?"
