Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields
Chapter 64 Shameful Solomon
CHAPTER 64: CHAPTER 64 SHAMEFUL SOLOMON
"Where are they taking us?"
"I heard they’re taking us to another camp, but... no one knows exactly how far it is..."
Lin Yi led a large group of people, leaving the Louvre and arriving at a looted large restaurant.
Prior to this, Melanie had already scouted the place through cameras, confirming there were no Zombies or trackers.
"Why bring us here? Where is the camp you mentioned earlier?"
"What do you plan to do to us?"
Some refugees worried they might have been deceived, with many even beginning to panic.
Lin Yi jumped onto a table, overlooking everyone.
The cold presence he exuded instantly silenced the entire restaurant.
After all, those who have survived in this post-apocalyptic world up till now somewhat knew in their hearts who truly had the power to make decisions.
"Before you join my camp, you all have to sign a contract agreement. Only those who sign the contract are eligible to enter the camp. However, I won’t force you to decide, it’s all voluntary."
As Lin Yi spoke, he waved his hand.
Before all the refugees, a contract appeared.
Needless to say, these people were shocked with mouths agape—it’s a typical reaction for anyone seeing such a contract for the first time.
"This is one of my Skills. If you breach the contract terms, well... the consequences won’t be pleasant."
"What would happen... if someone violated it?" a refugee cautiously asked, plucking up courage.
Lin Yi grinned, revealing a smile: "That depends on the severity; minor infractions will be punished, major ones will result in death."
His voice was not loud, but each word struck the refugees’ hearts like a heavy hammer.
Especially chilling was the smile on his face, devoid of any warmth, causing the refugees to shiver with fear.
Some instinctively retreated a few steps, while others clutched their family members’ hands tightly, trying to draw some sense of safety from them.
The entire restaurant plunged into dead silence; no one dared to make a sound.
At this moment, Chen Youyou stepped forward, whispering soothing words to everyone:
"I think it’s not really possible. Once you reach the camp and see the situation there, you’ll understand why.
However, if something like that does happen, as long as you haven’t harmed the camp or others, I promise to plead with the boss—
allow you to leave unrestricted and provide you with needed supplies and equipment."
Once Chen Youyou spoke, the oppressive atmosphere in the restaurant eased significantly.
A frail woman timidly asked, "Is there surely food there?"
Hearing this, Lin Yi raised his hand and with a wave.
In the blink of an eye, a heap of potatoes and corn materialized out of nowhere, piled in a corner of the restaurant like a small mountain, roughly estimated to be at least a dozen tons.
Then, with another wave, the food disappeared without a trace.
"Any other questions? If not, I’ll give you five minutes to consider. Once time is up, those who haven’t agreed to the contract are deemed to have given up joining the camp."
Lin Yi jumped down from the restaurant table.
With Chen Youyou and Solomon accompanying him, he went to a corner of the restaurant to drink some water from the Shelter and have a bite to eat.
Once the allotted time was up, they returned to the bustling crowd.
"Everyone ready? When you reach the camp, don’t be too surprised. Someone will provide you with food and explain everything clearly."
After Lin Yi spoke, he waved his hand decisively.
In an instant, almost everyone was transported to the Shelter.
Only two people were left standing alone in the restaurant.
Obviously, they hadn’t agreed to the contract, thus being filtered out by the Shelter.
Chen Youyou quickly leaned toward Lin Yi’s ear and whispered: "Boss, they are brothers and used to be construction workers."
"Understood."
Lin Yi spoke, then fired two shots!
The two men’s heads were hit and they fell to the ground.
Solomon was stunned, his eyes widened in shock; as a former soldier, he couldn’t accept killing civilians like this.
"Boss, why did you do this!?"
Lin Yi looked surprised, glancing at the agitated Solomon, he asked sternly: "Why, do you really think the Louvre wouldn’t send spies?"
Solomon was immediately stunned, lost in thought, clearly pondering Lin Yi’s words.
After a while, he asked with difficulty: "What makes you think they’re spies?"
"No spy would agree to my terms; after all, a spy who can’t report back is useless, right?"
Lin Yi smiled and stepped forward, bending down to search the bodies, retrieving two micro walkie-talkies, which he casually tossed to the now embarrassed Solomon.
At this moment, the former soldier stood rooted to the spot, unable to utter a word.
He clutched the micro walkie-talkies tightly, his hands trembling slightly, head bowed so low it almost touched his chest.
His gaze flitted between Lin Yi and the corpses on the ground, lips parted slightly, but he couldn’t speak a word.
As a soldier and a Warrior, allowing spies into the operations base was utterly disgraceful.
Yet his boss could so easily see through the enemies’ Disguise and decisively take them out...
After a long while, Solomon finally lifted his head slowly, eyes filled with regret and admiration.
"Boss, I failed to detect their oddity, almost caused a disaster, I’ve let down your trust!"
"Solomon, in this post-apocalyptic world, any negligence could lead us to ruin. We face not only Zombies but also those hidden in the shadows, harboring ill intentions."
Lin Yi gently patted Solomon’s shoulder, his tone calm but endowed with an undeniable Power.
Seeing Solomon nod vigorously, Lin Yi said no more and turned to leave the restaurant.
He was willing to give opportunities to those eager to progress because once, he too grew through constant struggle.
Solomon closely followed Lin Yi, the encounter with the disguised spies, Lin Yi’s decisiveness and calmness replaying in his mind, his stride seeming ever more resolute.
Half an hour later.
Lin Yi and his two companions teleported back to the Shelter from a concealed apartment building.
By then, the Shelter was crowded with people.
Newcomers were divided into groups, given pre-prepared food, and toured the Shelter.
Lin Yi, observing the bustling scenes in the Shelter, turned to the person beside him: "Solomon."
"Yes, boss?"
"I’m entrusting you with the Shelter’s security. I also want you to patrol the surrounding areas and train the newcomers."
With a wave from Lin Yi, Solomon saw a message appear before his eyes.
[You have been assigned a new job]
[Order Maintainer]
As an Order Maintainer, you have the authority to teleport individuals who violate or are suspected of violating the rules. You can also directly access Weapons and equipment from the warehouse.
[Note: You have no authority to equip others with Weapons]
Solomon felt a powerful jolt in his heart, immediately realizing the weight of this new role...
