CHAPTER 762: CHAPTER 340: EERIE NEST (PART 2)
"Is it because there are no markers that you didn’t attack those people?"
Lin Xian focused on Grace’s information and said, "They obviously look like human corpses."
"Zombies don’t mark us, but how come the monster in that tunnel..."
"Anyway, there’s something strange."
Lu Xingchen gathered a flame in one hand, releasing warmth that swept away the chill in the space, and said seriously, "We humans still prefer places with light."
Chen Sixuan, holding a gun, checked the surroundings with Xiao Qing and came back to discuss together with everyone.
"Lin Xian, don’t you think those meat tissues resemble those under Underground City No. 9?"
Lin Xian nodded: "That’s why I’m worried. There might be a big monster in this city."
KIKI frowned: "When Grace arrived a few hours ago, there wasn’t any; how did it appear?"
"We’re still 8 kilometers in a straight line from the White City Rail Station. If we can’t pass through the city, should we consider going around by the mountains?" Ning Jing suggested, "Or use KIKI’s flying ability."
"Captain Lin?"
Ning Jing finished speaking but noticed Lin Xian hadn’t responded, so she spoke again.
At this moment, Lin Xian suddenly said, "Ah Bai was right, good thing we didn’t fly into the sky."
By now, Grace had already transmitted the footage back. Due to the close distance, the information wasn’t significantly compressed or delayed, and he immediately synchronized the retrieved footage with the others.
"It’s all Abnormal Bodies outside now!"
[Currently, I am moving east on Yushu Street. There are many bodies hanging on the cables, and I’m being tracked and observed by several ’humans.’ According to the biological detector, there are no signs of life.]
The footage showed numerous puppet-like corpses hanging above the street, and eerily, a few ’humans’ resembling children appeared in front of Grace. They stared intently at Grace, some perched on cars, others running, but when Grace moved forward, these eerie children quickly retreated to various underneath cars or into crevices.
In the communicator, Grace’s voice was crisp and cold, as if she was entirely unaffected by the dark and terrifyingly eerie street.
Lin Xian, viewing the footage, increasingly sensed something was wrong.
"Search the bright area ahead, and if attacked, retaliate immediately!"
[Grace understands]
In the dilapidated apartment, the exploration team gathered, frowning at the holographic vision’s footage.
"They all seem human, but they’re not..."
Chen Sixuan spoke with a subtle tone. If it were some monsters appearing, their pressure might be slightly lessened, but this was their first encounter with the city in Star Abyss, seeing all sorts of ghostly entities related to humans, each stranger than the last.
Ah Bai stood quietly on the side, observing the apartment room, occasionally looking towards the door, his face a bit pale. He seemed to sense some sort of pacing sound from beneath the floorboards, something eerie seemed to be breathing in the dark corridor’s depths...
The door panel Lin Xian crafted isolated the light in this small room, and at this moment, everyone was closely monitoring Grace’s information.
In the pitch-black White City street, a silver-black female robot moved swiftly, elegantly and accurately maneuvering over cars and obstacles, her movements agile, hardly making any sound.
Yet even so, there were many ’existences’ watching this robot, the entire city’s streets giving a deceptive sense of emptiness while bustling with an unusual atmosphere.
In Grace’s system, more and more hanging corpses appeared on the street ahead, and at the same time, flesh-like substance at the street corners was becoming denser. Noticing this, she quickly climbed a tall building, placed a new signal relay, and began to traverse the rooftop.
At this point, her radar scan detected many surrounding buildings enveloped by this fleshy substance. Gradually, there were no concrete surfaces left on rooftops or roads. The entire block seemed to have transformed into some large organism’s tissue parts.
After climbing atop an office building in the city center, Grace’s night vision showed a death-shrouded dark city.
Asphalt roads were covered by some living tissue, the sticky flesh membrane writhing over building surfaces like a layer of decaying skin. At the center of the meat tissue ahead, the body of those organs finally appeared: a Nest formed by piled flesh, as vast as a large stadium, covered in pulsating black veins, with dark purple networks spreading like tree roots. The Nest opened its gaping maw like a volcano crater, with countless tentacles rising, constantly decomposing many human corpses!
And at the Nest’s summit hovered another more twisted existence, resembling a ’printer’ built of flesh and madness. It consisted of countless tiny tentacles and cysts, endlessly spewing out half-formed monsters. The reshaped humanoid creatures dropped from its base, landing on the meat carpet and convulsively crawling up.
Their limbs displaced, heads inverted, joints twisted at impossible angles, yet they could still walk, crawl, and even emit some sticky low murmurs resembling language.
Soon after, decomposed human corpses and those half-formed monsters began to be sewn together, as massive clouds of black mist drilled into the monster bodies, like some biological energy medium, rapidly causing these half-formed grotesque monsters to mutate, growing spikes, thick armor, sharp claws, and saw-like teeth...
