Apocalypse: Last Traveler
Chapter 361 - 340: Bountiful Harvest
CHAPTER 361: CHAPTER 340: BOUNTIFUL HARVEST
"Hmm."
Yao Wei responded but suddenly avoided Lu Xi’an’s gaze.
She could easily recognize what Lu Xi’an was holding in his hand, shaking lightly. She had seen it in movies and short videos, and had even mentioned it when lying in bed talking about what might be on the ship.
Back then, she didn’t think much of it, so why did her heart suddenly start pounding now when she saw it, with chaotic images flashing through her mind?!
"Let’s put it away first and check out other places."
She spoke with a slightly stiff tone.
Seeing Yao Wei like this, Lu Xi’an didn’t continue investigating the item in his hand.
— Although he only took a brief look, he was certain that what he held was a doomsday special supply, with an exceptionally long shelf life. It might still be usable.
A box with ten pieces, and after counting, neatly stacked in three rows, each with twelve boxes, totaling one hundred and twenty.
Then there were five cartons of cigarettes and four bottles of liquor—the safe was quite large.
The captain of this ship seemed to have loved smoking, drinking, and whatnot.
Suddenly, Lu Xi’an recalled—this level should be the crew’s quarters, and perhaps there were safes in the other crew’s rooms as well.
He immediately went to check other crew rooms, and indeed, safes were standard in each cabin.
However, the safes in the other rooms weren’t as large as the captain’s cabin.
Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei, with Gou, went through them one by one. Some of the safes were open, while others were closed.
For those open safes, there was no need to look, as they contained nothing—cleaned out long ago.
But for the closed ones, once Lu Xi’an opened them, most contained pistols, bullets, and cash.
The pistols and bullets, not being doomsday special supplies, were no longer usable, but Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei didn’t leave them behind idly.
These items might be useless to others, but for them, they worked just fine. They could be used as hidden weapons.
For the two highly enhanced Type A Neo-Humans, who needs a gun to fire bullets? Throwing them was just as effective.
In their hands, the effect and range were even better than shooting with a gun.
As for the cash, no matter what, it was still once cash, and the civilization outside on East Island had never stopped. Perhaps these bills could still be used as currency.
Besides these, in those safes, Lu Xi’an found miscellaneous items: two cartons plus twelve boxes of cigarettes, six bottles of alcohol, and fifteen boxes of unopened ’little umbrellas’, with thirty-four pieces scattered.
"Seems like desire truly is the most important to people."
After searching all the safes, Lu Xi’an couldn’t help but sigh.
"Hmm."
Yao Wei awkwardly averted her gaze again. She trembled slightly inside, thinking: Just how long will it take to use all these?!
And then thinking further, they hadn’t even searched the entire ship yet. If they continued and found more, would they never use it all in a lifetime...
"Okay, let’s move these things out and continue searching downward."
Lu Xi’an said.
"Hmm."
Yao Wei agreed, steeling herself, and alongside Lu Xi’an, moved the items to the deck and continued downward.
They reached the engine room, and on the lower level of the room, they found a piece of collapsed steel plate.
At the sight of the steel plate, Gou’s eyes lit up, staring directly at it.
Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei exchanged a glance and immediately went forward to lift the steel plate, throwing it aside.
"Boom!"
The steel plate landed elsewhere, making a loud noise that startled Hu Xiaodong waiting outside the ship.
"These guys sure can!"
Hu Xiaodong couldn’t help but remark, "With such noise, they must have found something! If it were us, we’d never find anything on this ship in our lifetime."
Inside the engine room, Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei did hear Hu Xiaodong’s words, but neither paid attention.
They were interested in the items that had been pressed under the steel plate—
A diesel generator, a waterproof toolbox, a drum of industrial lubricant.
— Each of these items had labels or tags, or covered in packaging paper. Although they had blurred over time, the text was barely discernible, hence Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei identified them.
The haul was significant!
Lu Xi’an had Gou check them, finding the diesel generator had broken down, but that didn’t matter, as having the other two items was sufficient.
The waterproof toolbox, once opened, contained wrenches, screwdrivers, and other tools, useful as spares.
There was also a multimeter, useless to them, but Luo Ping might find a use for it back at the base.
Additionally, there was insulating tape—storing it in their vehicle might come in handy unexpectedly.
As for the remaining industrial lubricant, it wasn’t immediately useful for their vehicle but could be stored for Luo Ping and his group for emergencies.
"Seems like we’re doing this for Luo Ping and them."
Lu Xi’an joked, then added, "Let’s check other places."
"Hmm."
Yao Wei nodded in agreement.
As usual, they moved the items found in the engine room to the deck, then continued their search.
Gou then led them to a sealed cargo hold.
The hydraulic door of the cargo hold had rusted shut, impossible for ordinary people to move. Seeing the door as instructed by Gou, Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei immediately sensed something unusual inside, possibly something valuable hidden within.
The room Hu Xiaodong spoke of, the one the islanders of East Island couldn’t open, might just be this one.
The two of them immediately relied on the overwhelming brute force of the Type A Neo-Humans and kicked open the rusted hydraulic door. Once they looked inside, they confirmed that this was definitely the sealed cargo hold of the ship.
Those important supplies should be stored here!
When they looked inside, there weren’t actually many things. Perhaps the people who docked the ship here had already taken out much of the stuff?
The cargo hold seemed empty, with a regular box that had become damp, and two military supply boxes that had been moisture-proofed and waterproofed, remaining intact.
Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei found a label on the box. The text on it, like others, had become somewhat blurry, but they could barely make it out—
Entertainment Room.
Han Tao
Song Minglang
Xu Yaoming
...
Lu Xi’an guessed that this box was probably moved from the ship’s crew entertainment room. He and Yao Wei had been there before, and it was already empty.
Maybe something important is inside, so it was deliberately moved here from the crew entertainment room and hidden?
The items inside probably belonged to the three people mentioned on the label. Who knows what’s in there...
As they contemplated, they opened the box and saw everything inside was wrapped in waterproof sealed bags, each with its own label.
The bag labeled "Han Tao" contained a waterproof camera, which was opened for a look but was currently out of battery.
Gou might be able to charge it, but there’s no rush now. Better to take it back and look at it later.
Lu Xi’an was quite curious if there were any photos inside.
The second waterproof sealed bag was somewhat large, and the label on the bag had Song Minglang’s name written on it.
Once opened, a board was revealed that looked like a Go board.
The board had two layers. Upon opening the top, the lower layer had compartments for storing a bunch of Go stones—black and white, plenty of each.
With so many stones, it didn’t look like a Five-in-a-Row game.
Lu Xi’an thought to himself and smiled at Yao Wei, saying, "Now we’ve got entertainment tools again, and these can also be used as hidden weapons."
"Yes."
Yao Wei nodded and joined Lu Xi’an in looking at the next sealed bag.
This sealed bag was the largest and quite heavy. As Lu Xi’an held it in his hands, there was a "clang-clang" sound as something inside collided.
Feeling through the sealed bag, it seemed to be cylindrical, with liquid inside the cylinder.
Lu Xi’an immediately thought of something and hurriedly opened the sealed bag, his eyes lighting up instantly.
Inside were eight cans, one containing coffee powder, and another with tea leaves.
The remaining six were all cans with red lacquer, and the words "Happy Energy" written on them. Although missing that smooth, familiar English, the design made Lu Xi’an think of something.
"Can I open one and have a look, is that okay?"
Lu Xi’an asked Yao Wei. From the description on the can, he could confirm these six cans were also apocalypse special supplies, with extended shelf life.
"Mm."
Yao Wei did not object.
Lu Xi’an immediately pulled the tab of a can, and as it opened, gas instantly hissed out with a "zzzz" sound.
Looking inside from the tab opening, the dark brown liquid looked so enticing, Lu Xi’an felt he could already smell the aroma.
It was definitely the same thing!
This world had Nerds’ Delight as well!
Although here, Nerds’ Delight doesn’t go by its original name but is called "Happy Energy".
"Gou, can we drink this?"
Lu Xi’an asked Gou, seeking confirmation.
Gou’s eyes sparkled, indicating no issues.
Without hesitation, Lu Xi’an took a few gulps, then belched.
That’s the taste!
He couldn’t help but grin, handing the can to Yao Wei, saying, "Here, give it a try."
Yao Wei reached out, took a small sip, but slightly furrowed her brows, "Feels... so strange."
"Does it taste good?"
Lu Xi’an asked.
Yao Wei replied, "Mm."
Lu Xi’an laughed, "Well, there you go."
So Yao Wei laughed along and took a big gulp.
The two of them shared the entire can of Nerds’ Delight, then went on to check the two military supply boxes.
Opening the two boxes, one contained a waterproof medical kit and some medicines, the other waterproof matches, compressed fuel blocks, vacuum-packed dehydrated vegetable seeds, and so on.
Additionally, there was a welding gun, two cans of pressurized plant nutrient solution, and two large packs of compressed biscuits.
"What a great haul!"
Lu Xi’an couldn’t help but exclaim.
