Apocalypse: Last Traveler
Chapter 39: Sharp Brother Luo Ping
CHAPTER 39: CHAPTER 39: SHARP BROTHER LUO PING
The luggage was delivered to the mouth of the tunnel, and Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei carried two buckets, not just one.
They stacked the two buckets together, intending to use them as one normally, and if one broke, they could replace it with the other.
Also, once some resources in the car had been consumed, there would likely be room to place the buckets.
But any more would be difficult to store, so they only took two.
Gou had already disconnected the circuit in the shelter and followed along. The drone’s battery was charged by Gou, and now under Gou’s control, it flew out for a reconnaissance.
"There’s nothing outside, let’s go."
After the mechanical dog’s eyes emitted light, Lu Xi’an confirmed, and with Yao Wei, moved the stones blocking the cave entrance.
After coming out, they didn’t rush to seal the entrance but dismantled the back wall beside the entrance, moved out the car parked inside for so many days, loaded everything onto it, and then sealed the entrance.
That house’s rear wall was also sealed in passing.
In this world, survival is unpredictable. In case they need to use this place again in the future, they might need to hide the car here.
After completing these tasks, Yao Wei opened the car hood, connected the battery wires, and Lu Xi’an inserted the key into the ignition, confirming the vehicle’s condition was good, so they were ready to officially set out.
They first went to the gas station on the east side of Gaojiazhuang Village to refill the car with fuel, and only then continued on their way.
Lu Xi’an was already seated in the driver’s seat, this time he would drive.
After experiencing the battle last time, the two had developed a tacit understanding.
Since Lu Xi’an’s marksmanship was poor, but his driving skills were decent, it was better for him to drive, and for Yao Wei to take the shooter position in the passenger seat for covering.
Naturally, they had to avoid Gaojiazhuang Village. Neither Lu Xi’an nor Yao Wei wanted to meet the people entrenched there again.
"I wonder how that Sharp Brother is doing? It’s been so long, he should have slipped away by now?"
While passing through the small path, Lu Xi’an casually chatted.
He was the most memorable person in this world apart from Yao Wei.
The sharp attire and the tongue spewing saucy words made it hard to forget.
But this nickname came from past life memories, which Yao Wei didn’t understand: "Sharp Brother?"
"You mean that Luo... Luo..."
Lu Xi’an couldn’t recall Sharp Brother’s name.
Yao Wei remembered: "Luo Ping."
She still couldn’t grasp why Lu Xi’an called him that, as she felt Luo Ping was neither sharp nor brother-like, seeming older and greasier instead.
How could someone so oily become sharp?
"Oh, right, it’s Luo Ping."
Lu Xi’an said, "He should’ve gotten away. That sedan was quite fast, and those people wrecked a car, probably couldn’t catch up to him."
"Yeah."
Yao Wei agreed with Lu Xi’an’s assessment.
But as soon as they said that, they suddenly heard a voice faintly drifting from afar: "Brother and sister, save a life!"
The voice was weak, sounding like it came from a distance. Even for Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei, who were Neo-Humans, it was vague and hard to discern.
The two exchanged glances, confirming that the voice indeed came from afar.
—It was still the voice of that Sharp Brother Luo Ping.
Lu Xi’an stepped on the brakes decisively, saying, "Seems things are not as we assumed, let’s check it out, see how that guy’s doing, and ask about the current situation."
"Alright."
Yao Wei agreed.
But Lu Xi’an didn’t rush to drive over directly. He first had Gou release the drone for a round of surveillance, confirming there were no safety concerns, before shifting gears, stepping on the gas, and turning the steering wheel to follow the drone.
Luo Ping was lying on the roadside, about two hundred meters away, in a slightly elevated area. The ground was covered in tall grass, who knows how it survived the icy snowy days.
The guy was lying in the grass, his figure obscured by the weeds, hard for anyone to spot unless close, yet he could use the terrain to see the road above.
"Brother and sister, long time no see. I saw the car and recognized it was you. As expected, you two are the only good people here."
As soon as he saw Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei, he grinned, revealing a smile.
Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei saw his pale complexion, lips white, the sunglasses on his nose gone to god knows where, with a gaping wound on his chest bleeding red enough to dye his whole coat, his breath faint like he wouldn’t live another second, yet he managed a smile and spoke.
This man’s will to live was quite tenacious.
"What’s your situation?"
Lu Xi’an got out of the car, aimed a gun at Luo Ping, and asked.
Luo Ping wasn’t bothered by the aimed gun, answering, "Those people in the county town are unruly, colluding with Liangshui Village, I’ve been hiding for several days and they’re still watching me, they stole my car.
"I fought to my last breath many times, killed quite a few of them. Those Gaojiazhuang base people were all killed by me too.
"But my remaining food ran out, can’t eat anything, I’ll die..."
Lu Xi’an was perplexed: "What do you mean ’died several times’?"
"I’m a Type B Neo-Human."
Luo Ping urgently said, "Brother and sister, can we continue talking later? If I don’t get something to eat, I really won’t survive."
Lu Xi’an was slightly surprised, were there different types among Neo-Humans? He thought all Neo-Humans were the same.
Looking at Yao Wei, he saw a flicker of confusion in her eyes too, indicating she also lacked knowledge of this area.
From what Luo Ping said, the state of a Type B Neo-Human seemed related to food?
Seeing Luo Ping struggling to speak, seemingly close to death, Lu Xi’an decided to trust him this once, went to the car and took out a pack of instant noodles from his bag, opened it, and while asking: "Are there other types of Neo-Humans?"
"Thanks. Brother, you’re truly kind!"
Luo Ping was overjoyed, struggling to speak while quickly answering Lu Xi’an’s question, "Regarding Neo-Humans, since there’s a Type B, there must be Type A, Type C, and Type D too. But I’ve never encountered them, don’t know what they’re like.
"I only know I’m Type B because others told me."
Then Lu Xi’an broke off a piece of the noodle brick and tossed it to Luo Ping.
Luo Ping: "..."
Lu Xi’an said, "Sorry, my instant noodles are limited too, with this package only four left." He took half of the remaining noodle brick in the bag and handed it to Yao Wei.
Yao Wei didn’t hesitate, took it, and both started nibbling the noodles while watching Luo Ping perform.
Luo Ping twitched his mouth, barely managing a smile, saying, "No problem, one piece is enough, at least it will keep me alive temporarily."
He said this and picked up the noodle brick that had fallen on him, stuffing it whole into his mouth, puffing his cheeks and chewing forcefully for a long while before swallowing.
Then Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei saw him tilt his head, close his eyes, seemingly dead.
The two were full of question marks, but before long saw Luo Ping’s chest wound quickly scab over and heal, the death-like pallor on his face fade visibly, his lips regaining blood color.
This guy really resurrected!
