CHAPTER 70: CHAPTER 27 SURVIVOR_1

Wen Yu took a deep breath of fresh air, casually pulling out a packet of cigarettes from his space ring.

Cigarettes, such a great thing. He lit one, took a deep drag, and savored the burning sensation deep in his lungs. Wen Yu exhaled a satisfied puff of smoke.

"Let’s wait a bit longer; someone should be able to make it out."

Though Wen Yu’s actions could be deemed unfair, it didn’t hurt for him to wait for them from a safe position. After all, he owed Li Quan’an a favor. Even if he didn’t manage to help this time, there would still be other chances, right?

Of course, if Li Quan’an died, then Wen Yu couldn’t be blamed for not keeping his promise.

Cyclops lay at Wen Yu’s feet. In non-combat situations, its Enhanced Healing activated, quickly mending its minor wounds. In just a minute, its injuries were almost completely healed.

Just as Wen Yu was leisurely enjoying the warm sunshine, a commotion arose not far away.

"Boss, there are survivors running out of the pile of plants!"

A faint voice sounded, which Wen Yu, with his incredible power, clearly caught.

Without paying attention to the unknown humans, Wen Yu indifferently glanced at the distant bushes, then shifted his gaze back towards the mutant vines.

"Idiots, they’ve already heard you! Come on, let’s go check it out."

Another voice rang out, followed by rustling sounds from the bushes. Several people wearing ragged protective suits emerged one by one.

Before these individuals could approach, their boisterous voices had already reached him.

"Listen up, survivors ahead! You’ve entered the range of Chaihe Town. This place is currently under Brother Fei’s control. If you’re smart, hand over your protective suits, steel sabers, and any food you’re carrying. Then, come with me back to the camp to work as laborers. My brothers might even spare you a bite to eat."

Wen Yu glanced disdainfully at the survivors and scoffed.

Although he had no idea about the current state of Chaihe Town, these professionists seemed to be living quite miserably.

Out of the six people, only half of them carried steel sabers. The others held ordinary items like iron shovels or broken hatchets. Honestly, Wen Yu wasn’t even sure if such weapons could harm him anymore.

Unwilling to get entangled with these weaklings, Wen Yu bent down, picked up a small pebble from the roadside, and flicked it with his finger.

The pebble shot from Wen Yu’s hand at an extremely high speed, striking the forehead of the man who had just been shouting.

With a SMACK, the professionist who had been shouting felt an explosive force on his forehead. His wide-open eyes could even see the dust from the shattered pebble.

"Ugh..." He glanced at his companions, who wore stunned expressions, then at Wen Yu in the distance, who was watching them with amusement. Without another word, he fainted.

"Damn it!" The leader of the professionists cursed bitterly as he watched his teammate collapse.

"That bastard! When things are good, he shows off. When things are bad, he pretends to faint. This kid really knows how to play games."

He kicked the man on the ground hard. Seeing no reaction, the leader began to feel uncertain.

He turned his head to look at Wen Yu in the distance, and his heart skipped a beat.

Wen Yu’s protective suit was somewhat different from theirs.

Level 2! We’ve stirred up a hornet’s nest!

"Level 2? Boss, you’re not mistaken, are you?"

"Damn, isn’t that the same level as Brother Tian? We can’t afford to provoke him! What do we do now?"

The leader of the professionists had an uncertain expression. After thinking for a long time, he cupped his hands towards Wen Yu in the distance and said, "Big brother, something came up at home. We brothers have to leave first."

Before his companions could react, he turned to dive back into the bushes.

COUGH, COUGH. Wen Yu was so amused by these clowns that he choked on his cigarette smoke. Seeing them about to flee, even abandoning their fallen comrade, he immediately shouted, "Stop! Come back! I want to ask you something."

Wen Yu watched as the distant figures heard his shout. Instead of turning back, they broke into a full sprint. Wen Yu crushed out his cigarette.

"Go, Cyclops! Get those guys for me. I want them alive."

"WOOF, WOOF, WOOF!"

Cyclops barked in response and shot off.

In less than two minutes, rustling sounds were heard again.

The professionists returned, looking utterly dejected, with Cyclops’s massive silhouette behind them.

"Back already? Are things at home settled?"

Wen Yu looked mockingly at the middle-aged man leading the group.

"Haha, I thought about it. Leaving our young brother here all alone isn’t very considerate. So, we came back to check on you!"

The middle-aged man gave a hollow laugh, looking embarrassed.

"Relax, I just want to ask about the situation. There’s no need for a fight."

Wen Yu reassured them. Seeing their expressions calm slightly, he asked directly.

"What’s the situation in Chaihe Town now?"

Hearing Wen Yu’s question, the middle-aged man’s face turned extremely grim.

"The situation in Chaihe Town is terrible. You could even say humanity there is on the verge of collapse. If Brother Fei and Brother Tian hadn’t led us to escape quickly, there probably wouldn’t be any survivors left in Chaihe Town!"

Speaking of the recent events, the middle-aged man clearly still had lingering fears.

"Sigh..."

Wen Yu sighed.

It’s too difficult to survive in these small towns in the Northeast. There’s no military presence nearby, only ordinary people. Perhaps things are much better in the capital and other large cities.

Thinking of the capital, a place he hadn’t visited in either of his two lifetimes, Wen Yu was momentarily lost in thought.

A rustling sound came from behind, startling Wen Yu back to his senses.

"Hold on, there are a few more people coming."

Seeing Li Quan’an and Sun Ruixing, along with three other professionists, emerge leading Bai Xiao’an and Bai Feifei, Wen Yu immediately went up to them.

"Is that all?" Wen Yu raised an eyebrow.

"Yes. Only we survived. Everyone else is dead."

Li Quan’an’s expression was grim. Although he knew this breakout would be very dangerous, the number of deaths still exceeded his expectations.

Looking at Wen Yu’s expressionless face, Li Quan’an felt a wave of bitterness.

This man wasn’t clearing a path at all; he was just looking out for himself and escaping.

"Well, whoever made it out is fortunate. As for those who didn’t, they were just unlucky."

Wen Yu felt no guilt whatsoever for these cannon fodder.

Li Quan’an felt a surge of resentment, but he forcefully suppressed it. What’s the use of complaining? If complaining was useful, what would be the point of strength?

"Who are those people?" Li Quan’an had no choice but to shift his attention to the few unfamiliar individuals.

"Survivors from Chaihe Town. I saw them as soon as I got out. It’s a good chance to learn about the situation. You guys can listen in too."
