CHAPTER 434: CHAPTER 434: THE EERIE FOREST

Chu Miao didn’t seem to see how shocked the people around her were. She just proceeded to the passenger seat of the first vehicle and got in.

Ye Xuan was just the same as he got on the driver’s seat. The others saw that no one was bothering with explaining how so many cars appeared and, so they got into the different vehicles too.

The only car that had two people was the one with Chu Miao and Ye Xuan in it. The others were full.

Once everyone was seated, the cars left the community in a single file and headed in the direction of City C. It would take some time to get there, but this was also another form of experience.

The area near the community was clear without a single zombie as it normally was. However, after driving for twenty minutes, the sightings of zombies began.

Some of the zombies chased after their cars and the people inside had to use bullets to stop them.

Nonetheless, another phenomenon made itself clear at that moment. Bullets were no longer as useful as before on zombies.

The most straightforward way to kill zombies had been to shoot them in the head. This would guarantee that they couldn’t get up again.

However, it was obvious that some zombies would still keep running after them and even attacking their cars even after being shot in the head.

This surprised many of them but it also explained why Jun Huang and his team had been in such dire straits even with heavy weapons.

Zombies had advanced so much that they had learned to shift their crystal cores. Moreover, unlike before when the zombies would collapse with a single bullet to their heads, now one had to make sure that the crystal core had left its body before it dies.

With things becoming so complicated, it wouldn’t be long before long-range weapons become useless.

Unless it was something similar to a rocket launcher or something that could blow them off, guns would become useless toys.

Luckily, not all the zombies were the same as some of them were still normal and could die from bullets.

The cars travelled on the ragged roads that had been ruined by the changing weather and floods and had become a death trap.

There were numerous pot holes and some parts of the roads had been eaten away by flood water and collapsed.

With a single mistake and a swerve, the vehicle would go spiralling down a slope.

What made everything worse were the countless debris left behind by the floods including broken furniture, fallen trees, abandoned vehicles, and many other things.

Even some parts of buildings had collapsed and the debris scattered everywhere.

The situation was simply unbearable. As such, the people driving the cars had to navigate the roads carefully while being chased by zombies.

Since the apocalypse began, Chu Miao had not gone far from the community they lived in.

Even when going out to collect supplies, they always targeted places near them.

But this time she was going to another city and hadn’t expected the condition of the roads to be so bad.

She almost missed the floods because then she could just use the yacht.

Leaving the city center wasn’t easy and took a full two hours when normally it would have taken forty minutes.

The stretch of the road they entered was not very different from that of the city but was previously less populated.

"There are several factories in this direction." Ye Xuan said with one hand on the wheel and another holding a map.

He would check it periodically as they went forward.

"Are we going to check them out?" Chu Miao asked before taking the map from Ye Xuan’s hands and checking it herself.

She wanted to find out what kind of factories were there and if they were worth a visit.

"I don’t think we should. It would only be a waste of time because that place was one of the supply points that the military took over when the apocalypse started.

Even if they left something, it would have been destroyed by the water and wouldn’t be worth it.

Besides, this place is not too far from the city and many residents must have checked it many times before.

So, there is no need to waste time." Ye Xuan replied to his girlfriend.

"Alright then. It looks like after passing the factories there will be a long stretch of an uninhabited area with a forest that ends after arriving at a remote village.

It would be good if we can make it to the village by nightfall to avoid travelling at night." Chu Miao replied as she continued to study the map.

"Sure. We should be able to get there by evening."

The car fell into a comfortable silence after that. Ye Xuan was driving while Chu Miao sat quietly in the passenger seat and circulated her cultivation technique.

She needed a lot of spiritual energy to advance to the next level and didn’t want to waste any moment.

She tried to absorb spiritual energy whenever she could and since there were other people dealing with the zombies that kept appearing, she didn’t need to lift a finger.

So, she decided to use this time to cultivate.

The people behind them were different and were chatting throughout the journey.

As the convoy entered the forest stretch, the number of zombies also lessened. However, there were still zombies walking along the road and others coming out of the forest when they heard the sound of the cars.

The quietness within this area was too eerie causing even the soldiers accustomed to different situations to feel creeped out.

They stopped using guns to kill the zombies as the sound would echo for a long time before stopping.

What’s more, the sound of gunfire attracted more zombies.

The group of people had driven along the forest stretch for two hours when they finally decided to stop at a place with fewer trees and looked like people had used it for picnics before.

It was lunch time and they decided to eat before continuing their journey.
