Apocalypse: Zombie King is the Female Lead's Younger Sister
Chapter 129: Mutated Animals’ Teror
CHAPTER 129: CHAPTER 129: MUTATED ANIMALS’ TEROR
Zerra’s eyes went wide as she listened to the confrontation in front of the bathroom. Her heart was full of gossip. She leaned in slightly while cupping her ear, making sure she wouldn’t miss any words.
"Nyra, what do you mean by this?" Meira had disbelief in her tone.
There was the noise of footsteps; she had taken a few steps back.
Nyra pressed her, advancing. "You know very well what I mean. If you like Darren, go for him and leave Laziel around."
She took a deep breath. "You treat my younger brother so terribly. If your heart isn’t on him, is it better to just leave him? Why? You are scared of an ordinary human like you will lose all the privileges given by an ability user?"
Meira’s face turned slightly pale. Her lips trembled, in anger and shame. Nyra’s words had hit all the marks, unmasking her true intentions.
Indeed, she liked Darren, but she was also worried she would lose Laziel’s protection. Darren’s personality had captured her heart; he was steadfast, resolute, and the true epitome of a leader.
He was also one of the leaders of a base. With his influence, if she could get his protection...
She could walk sideways in this apocalypse.
However, Darren liked someone else. His behavior had been lukewarm toward her at all.
"You can’t accuse me like that, Nyra! You just said that because you don’t like me." Meira let out a sob. "Laziel cares more for me than he does for you."
Nyra snorted, her gaze condescending. Then, she shook her head and thought better of it. Why would she argue with this lunatic here?
She took a step forward. Meira jolted, scampering away. A few moments later, she realized that Nyra wasn’t actually aiming for her. Instead, she was going to the bathroom.
Nyra clicking her tongue in disdain annoyed her.
"Just watch your actions. If you dare to put my younger brother in danger again..." Nyra trailed off. "I will make you beg for death."
Zerra wanted to cheer and applaud Nyra. Too bad, even if Laziel still treasured his eldest sister, he also still liked Meira a lot and couldn’t bear to part with her.
He was still in blind mode, and maybe a little in denial after today’s incident. However, it wasn’t enough to make their relationship crumble.
Zerra opened the door and cleared her throat when she came face to face with Nyra, waving her hand a little like a lucky cat. "I will go outside."
With that, she scrambled away, passing by Meira, whose face had become flushed red. There wasn’t only one person who saw her in such an embarrassed state, but two. And all of them were Laziel’s sisters.
Zerra sat down on the sofa and continued to listen to the white-haired old man’s words. His name was Mr. Wells.
"So, a group of animals often visits this place..." Darren’s face was full of contemplation. "When has this been happening?"
"Maybe over a week ago." Mr. Wells’ face was filled with seriousness. "Luckily, most of us had some supplies in our homes already. We don’t dare to go out."
"Some of us went out when those animals were gone, and when they were back bringing the supplies they needed, the animals were there. They ended up getting mauled by some beasts."
Zerra thought about this. It was a little similar to the beast tide in the celestial realm.
"What types of animals often come? Are they ferocious ones like tigers or wolves?" She subconsciously asked him.
Mr. Wells stared at her, a little taken aback. He frowned before he answered her question. "They have done that around five times already. There were two times when we heard the tigers roaring and wolves howling."
"But for the three other times they came to this place, they were mostly smaller animals like squirrels, monkeys, and such." Mr. Wells explained. "If we count today, it will be the sixth time this has happened."
All those who heard Mr. Well’s words sucked in a deep breath. Most of the residents here were only ordinary people. Even they, a group of ability users, were a little overwhelmed by those animals’ onslaught.
On top of that, there were also ferocious beasts like tigers and wolves.
"We knew we couldn’t let this continue to drag on or we might lose our lives soon." Mr. Wells had a dejected look on his face, a little weary. "So, we requested help from the base."
When he said this, his face shone with some hope. "We are glad that the base sent all of you to help us."
He had seen their abilities secretly from the small opening in his window. As soon as he heard the sounds of fighting and animals screeching in pain, he went to check.
The sight that greeted him had given him a lot of hope. This group of ability users the base had sent them actually could chase away those animals. Well, even though he hadn’t seen how they would fare against the ferocious beasts yet...
Darren asked Mr. Wells for more details. "Do those mutated animals have a specific time of their appearance?"
Mr. Wells pondered over the question before he shook his head. "There doesn’t seem to be such a thing. It’s completely random. They can come in the morning, afternoon, or even at night. It’s often caught us off guard."
They all exchanged glances.
"Do you know the specific reason for their appearance? Maybe they are looking for food or something." Laziel joined in the discussion.
Zerra widened her eyes. That was a nice question. Her brother had gotten a little smarter after he had a minor quarrel with Meira. Was this a sign of his IQ returning?
Laziel was a little at a loss when he caught Zerra’s strange gaze. He subconsciously wiped his mouth, wondering if his lips were smeared with some kind of substance.
Or was it his teeth?
"Oh yes, those animals would take food from the house that they managed to break into. But... the people in the house would also lose their lives." Mr. Wells wore a grim look, fear etched on his face.
As soon as he said those words, they heard the commotion outside. And it didn’t sound like human footsteps...
Mr. Wells abruptly stood up and walked to the window, staring right at the outside of the house through the small opening.
He stiffly turned around after he was done, swallowing hard. "They have returned with a bigger number of mutated animals, more animals than before."
