CHAPTER 205: CHAPTER 205: WORKING TOGETHER

She was really startled, but she was quick in her movement, dashing toward the room inside with her pitchfork brandished.

This place was too strange, and she couldn’t afford to be careless–

Her pitchfork fell to the ground with a clang, and she almost couldn’t stop herself in time, staring wide eyes at the familiar figure in front of her.

So familiar yet also unfamiliar at the same time.

"Cassias?" She called out. Her emotions fluctuated greatly.

Cassias’ eyes were darker, shining with a dangerous, cold light that not even the other versions of him ever showed before.

His dark eyes met hers. It was too dark, and she belatedly noticed something wrong with him.

His previously pure white wings had become black, as dark as the night itself.

Just as she was about to step forward, something dramatic and embarrassing happened. She freaking tripped! On her own weapon at that!

Thus, she resignedly had to accept she had turned into a fox again. Sighing, she let out a few small yips to call Cassias, her tails swaying wildly.

He couldn’t have been possessed, could he? Under the pressure of his intense eyes, she trotted toward him and hugged his feet, shouting in her fox language: snap out of it!

Before she could climb on him and give a slap on his head, she was picked up. In a daze, she stared at Cassias’s eyes as the darkness and strange aura gradually receded.

The man wore a soft smile on his face. "Zizi!"

He pressed her to his broad chest as she struggled, slapping his evil claws. Then, she asked him, "What had happened to you?"

"Nothing. Sorry if I scared you. I noticed something strange here and went to check. There was someone mixing suspicious liquid together here, but before I could get him, he and the liquid bottle exploded," he made a thorough explanation.

Was that the reason for the strange aura? She wondered. Her eyes swept over the room, and she realized there were a lot of broken glasses here.

It was indeed similar to some kind of lab.

"Why are you here?" She resisted the unpleasant smell entering her nose and asked.

"I am already done, so I went to find you." He answered naturally, as if that was what he was supposed to do.

Zerra pursed her lips. She glanced at her paws. They were pink with soft pads. How could she continue doing her task in this condition?

She couldn’t even lift the pitchfork properly!

For this extremely dangerous plan they were executing tonight, they had made a list of priorities. Each person had a top list of targets they should kill first before moving to the next priority list.

The top priority was, of course, all influential people from the base. Most of them were, surprisingly, people from the residential area Henry had brought back. He truly trusted them a lot.

Unexpectedly, Cassias finished all the people on his list. He was too quick.

"I can’t do my task now," she muttered dejectedly. Should she get a knife and just stab people in their sleep? This form sounded convenient...

"Hmm?" Cassias smiled, pinching her ears. She glared and bit his fingers hard, super annoyed.

He didn’t mind the small amount of blood seeping out of his wound. Instead, he hummed and told her, "Let’s do it together, shall we?"

"Eh?" She snapped her head toward him.

Despite his words, when he truly brought her to sneak into people’s rooms like a pair of thieves, he was the one doing most of the work. Until she protested and they divided the task together.

Sometimes, Zerra would sneak in the person and kill them in one blow. Cassias would be ready to take the crystal core and destroy it. They exchanged roles too.

With the two of them working together, it took only half an hour for them to finish reaping the souls of these people.

"You are really awesome," Zerra muttered, eyes wide.

"Am I?" Cassias smiled, a proud look on his face.

She held her paws up as if she were giving her thumbs up. "Yes, an awesome thief, breaking into people’s houses like that." She snickered at him.

The smile was wiped off Cassias’s face in an instant. Then, he let out a sigh, tapping her nose and pinching her ears in retaliation. She stopped snickering, now fighting with Cassias’ evil paws.

"Zee, do you want to go to my inner space?" He asked.

She stopped biting his finger; her eyes lit up with excitement. She almost forgot it was time for them to gather together soon, and she was still in her fox form.

Cassias would surely take care of it anyway, so she nodded enthusiastically. Just as she blinked, the environment had changed.

She didn’t hesitate to run toward the spring water, jumping inside and drinking the water as much as she could. Her energy was replenished in an instant.

Then, she heard a small roar. The tiger jumped into the water, wanting to go to her. However, its mother was quick in catching the cub.

It could have drowned.

Zerra witnessed the mother tiger berating its cub, and the usually oblivious and ignorant baby tiger was surprisingly aware it had done wrong.

It was crouching on the ground listlessly, occasionally letting out soft growls.

Zerra scooped a fistful of water and thoughtfully analyzed the spring water.

Could it be that the baby tiger’s intelligence had increased a bit because of this spring water? If that was the case, it would make sense that the adult tiger was willing to stay here for long without any qualms.

If the spring water really had such an effect, it was excellent news.

When it was finally an hour after the sun rose, Zerra was ejected out of Cassias’ inner space because she had turned into a human again. Their position was rather awkward, because she was hugging him.

She had landed above him.

"Cassias, wake up!" Laziel’s voice echoed from outside. They were in a tent. "They had found dead people in the dormitory room. These people are–"

Laziel’s words were stuck in his throat when he witnessed the sight inside the tent.
