Zerra’s pupils constricted, and she tried to move, scared she might get drowned

She was currently a wet fox, drenched from head to toe. The worst part? This wasn’t just a small body of water like a lake or river. She was floating in a freaking ocean!

As she tried to move her limbs, she belatedly realized she was completely paralyzed. Nothing was more terrifying than being paralyzed and floating on an ocean while you didn’t know how your family members and friends were doing.

She wasn’t even sure if Cassias had succeeded in bringing her parents inside his space forcefully or not. That crazy man was trying to break his own inner space!

Speaking of Cassias, she couldn’t help but sigh in relief when she sensed him nearby. He was clutching her tail and paw, allowing them to float near each other on the ocean’s surface.

How long had they been there? Were they still in the same world at all?

No one could answer her questions, unfortunately. Maybe because of their inner space’s existence, which was similar to the law of space, they received manageable damage.

She and Cassias weren’t torn to pieces. It often happened to weaker beings who couldn’t withstand the pressure inside the sinkhole. They were crushed to pieces the moment they entered.

Still, even though they were alive at least, they still had numerous cuts on their bodies. After she woke up, Zerra felt a stinging sensation all over her body. It must have been from the saltwater.

"Cassias?" She tried to make a sound; her mouth was completely numb. What came out of her mouth was only a choked cough.

No one answered her. It meant that Cassias was currently unconscious.

She let out a breath, completely in despair at the situation. They were a little lucky they still floated on the ocean’s surface somehow, but with her current paralyzed condition, they might starve to death soon.

What to do?

Because she was in her fox form, she might fare better in staying alive compared to Cassias. Zombies were very resilient even if they didn’t eat for a long time. However, Cassias, no matter how strong he was, still possessed a human constitution.

The waves occasionally smashed against them, sending them flowing somewhere.

Zerra hoped that the current would send them ashore, although she knew better that the possibility was rather small. As she used her broken senses to scan the surroundings, she saw the horizon stretched far and wide, with no end in sight.

She couldn’t even find the glimpse of any land. Only the blue ocean.

The overuse of her power some time ago had damaged her senses. Fortunately, she could still use them a little. Her senses were slowly recovering, although it was at turtle speed.

"Eh? Who’s there?" She jolted, letting out another broken cough. With no doubt, the other party wouldn’t understand what she was trying to convey.

Her heart sank. With her impaired senses, she could detect a terrifying presence. She just didn’t know what it was. It could have been a shark that would eat both her and Cassias in one bite!

Her paw twitched, struggling to move. They had to get away from here!

Unfortunately, even if she had the resolve, the situation was completely hopeless.

A moment later, her pupils dilated in shock. Her grip on Cassias tightened. She could feel her little body being lifted onto a rubbery surface. The same thing happened to Cassias.

They were out of the water in an instant.

She swallowed hard. "A whale?"

The whale seemed to understand what she said. It greeted her cheerfully. "Hi there!"

There was a curiosity brimming in its tone as the whale asked, "You don’t seem to be an ocean dweller. And you are with a... human? How did you get here?"

"Thank you for letting us on your body," Zerra didn’t forget to thank it.

The whale seemed to be extremely humongous, the biggest creature she had ever seen. The level ... even higher than the tiger.

"Oh, I have been watching for a while underwater. You don’t know these guys were eyeing you both." The whale’s tone became more solemn.

"There are sea predators eyeing us?" She sucked in a cold breath. No wonder she had been feeling uneasy since earlier, like countless pairs of eyes were watching her and Cassias!

"Yes," the whale answered. "But with my presence, they don’t dare to do anything!"

It sounded rather proud and pleased with itself, yet its tone was not arrogant at all. As if it was merely stating a fact.

Zerra was a little surprised. The whale had been lurking below to protect them? She thanked it again.

"So, how did you get here? Aren’t you a land dweller?" The whale repeated the question.

It was the strongest creature Zerra had ever encountered; well, that was also because she didn’t know Cassias’s current level.

So, she told it everything that had happened, hoping that the whale could provide her with some clues.

Surprisingly enough, its brain wave was also the clearest she had ever met. Even better than the tiger, whose thoughts were incomprehensible and a little chaotic sometimes.

"Countless black tendrils, sinkholes, hmm?" The whale let out a thoughtful hum. "Other sea creatures seem to have encountered the same thing lately."

Zerra widened her eyes in shock. "It happened in the sea too?"

"Yes," the whale confirmed. "Some small fish appeared far away from their original habitat. When I asked them, they were confused. Something slimy and weird had dragged them."

The whale brought them in venturing onto the sea, moving quite fast. It was unfortunate that Zerra could only stare at the cloudy sky above.

"So, you are currently injured, huh? You can’t move?" The whale’s tone was sympathetic. "There are a lot of sea creatures stronger than you here."

Zerra’s paw twitched, and she could feel Cassias’ warmth. She knew that fact too. They would be extremely disadvantaged at sea. Not to mention, they were also injured.

She inwardly gritted her teeth and made an impertinent request. It was a little shameful because they were asking for more from the whale even though it had saved them.

"Can I ask for your help?" She asked in an embarrassed tone. "To let us stay here under your protection until one of us recovers?"

Unexpectedly, the whale agreed. "Sure, you can accompany me to tell your stories from the land!"

It sounded excited until it remembered something. "What kind of animal are you, little thing? I only notice you are not a sea creature because the smell of the sea feels very faint on you."

"I am a fox," she answered, not at all surprised that the whale didn’t know much about land creatures. It must have spent most of its time in the deep sea. Then... recently it just began to develop intelligence as soon as the apocalypse started.

"Are all foxes small and full of fur like you?" The whale asked curiously.

For the next few days, the whale asked tons of things about the land. It was a very curious creature.

"Is your friend not awake yet?" The whale seemed a little concerned. Although it had never seen a fox, it had seen humans. Humans didn’t seem to sleep for such a long time.

"His injuries are worse than mine," she answered after a while.

The next day, Zerra could already move, although it took her a lot of effort. Every time she was done feeding Cassias the spring water, she would lay on the whale’s back tiredly. Soon after, she was already asleep.

She had done that repeatedly, even trying to heal him with her wood ability. Although she had to be extra careful with the latter; her energy was still limited, and she didn’t want to lose her ability to move again.

"Is the land far away from here?" She asked. After she confirmed the tendrils, sinkholes, and space tears incident with the whale, she wasn’t sure they were still in the same world or time.

Hopefully, they were. She didn’t want to find herself suddenly stranded a few years in the future or something.

"Do you want to go to the land?" The whale sounded surprised. "It seems dangerous there."

"Dangerous?" She lifted her eyebrows.

"The humans on the land are really cruel. I have seen them killing and eating each other."

Zerra fell silent.

The whale continued, "How about staying with me for a while? It’s safer here. We can tell stories to each other too!"

She didn’t mind. Indeed, it was the safest option. The whale was willing to protect them in exchange for stories. Besides, with her current power, she couldn’t protect Cassias yet.

Cassias’ condition also made her worry. Although she had healed all his cuts, he was still unconscious. His consciousness wasn’t damaged, right? She hoped it wasn’t!

"Oh, there are some humans too, are they your friends?"

Zerra’s pupils constricted when she noticed familiar people. Henry’s men! Before she could react, they had already rushed over toward them!
