Apocalypse: Zombie King is the Female Lead's Younger Sister
Chapter 233: Zombie Beasts
CHAPTER 233: CHAPTER 233: ZOMBIE BEASTS
Zerra examined the zombie creatures warily. They had gigantic bodies of spiritual beasts, but their eyes were hollow, like dead corpses.
Strangely enough, she still detected hints of souls in these zombified spiritual beasts. It was just too peculiar...
However, when she remembered the cases of these human experimental subjects, she seemed to understand something. The case was odd but not entirely impossible.
She didn’t know what had happened after she left the celestial realm, anyway. Could it be that the state of that world was already this bad? There were zombie spiritual beasts everywhere.
For a moment, she couldn’t determine whether Cassias had grown up in an era after she was gone. She had a faint inkling that she might find the answer once she gathered more clues from this world.
"Zizi!" Cassiss yelled.
The moment these zombie beasts appeared, full of rotten stench and intimidating aura, Zerra instinctively jumped out of Cassias’ embrace and stood in front of the cubs.
She wanted to control these zombie beasts.
After a while, she frowned. She could restrict their movements. However, completely controlling them was impossible. The zombie beast had a higher power level than hers.
At the realization, her blood ran cold. These cubs were in extreme danger!
"Everyone, run!" Zerra yelled.
The cubs were a little paralyzed when they saw the hideous and terrifying zombie beasts suddenly appearing in front of them. There were koalas, sloths, and even slugs. They were rather slow animals, so survival might be possible if they ran fast enough.
"Quickly, move!" Cassias’ voice also thundered, making them recover their senses.
At this point, they realized that these cubs didn’t come out to play together because the area was safe enough, but because they were rebellious.
"Mom, I was wrong! I shouldn’t have snuck out!"
"Dad, save me!"
"Brother, I am going to die! That thing will eat me."
Many exclamations followed as soon as Cassias snapped them back to reality. They turned around and ran for their lives.
Among the zombie beasts, they didn’t miss the presence of the little ones. They were zombie cubs, easier targets to be infected by zombie virus.
Some cubs didn’t fail to recognize their former playmates even if the other party had their complexion and body shape changed. As they ran, they shouted the names of anyone they had recognized.
It was the first time they had experienced such a thing, so the cubs cried while they forced their legs to bring them away from the scene.
Cassias had spread his wings and snatched Zerra away. Most of the zombies were indeed slow-moving beasts, but there were still some who could move very fast, like apes.
Zerra’s heart was in turmoil as she tried to control the nearby zombie beasts. However, the growing distance and scattered directions made it increasingly difficult.
The cubs had run in various directions with zombie beasts chasing after them.
"Kaz, run toward the adult beast we found earlier!" She urged him. They might still be there and could help them.
Even if they returned to Cassias’ home, it was useless. There was no adult at his home who could help. Zerra was also worried about his future. How would he do without adult spiritual beasts’ protection?!
As soon as Cassias heard her words, he changed his direction and headed to the pond.
She calculated how long it would take for her mother to come and was immediately very distressed. It would take a few more hours until night came.
So, they could only rely on the previous spiritual beasts they had encountered near the pond.
Soon, they arrived at the pond. The zombie beast chasing after them was still a bit far away, and it would take a while to arrive. However, they knew that the spiritual beast had marked them as targets.
They might not rest until they caught Cassias and her. They were more advanced compared to the zombies in the human realm.
"Mr. Bear? Mr. Bear?!" She called out anxiously, jumping from Cassias’ embrace. Her heart sank when she hadn’t sensed anyone’s presence after searching for a while.
Had they left?
Or did they hide themselves and she couldn’t find them because their power level was higher than hers?
Suddenly, she tapped her own forehead with her paw. How stupid she was! As Cassias followed behind her, she sniffed, using her dog-like ability to find them.
After a while, her eyes lit up. Gotcha!
She ran with her short legs in a particular direction. Then, she stopped, sighing. Time was essence, so, enduring her shame, she told Cassas while holding up her paws. "Kaz, carry me! Let’s find them together!"
Cassias nodded and scooped her up, hugging her. Every time she pointed in a certain direction, he would head there without hesitation. His speed was incredibly quick.
"Let’s go down." She glanced at the ground below and hurriedly retracted her sight, a bit dizzy.
Cassias landed on the ground. "The adult spiritual beasts are here?"
"I noticed their presence," she muttered and pointed toward a gigantic tree. "There."
He nodded and brought her there. As soon as they arrived behind the tree, they found an adult spiritual beast. It was a rhinoceros, and there was no bear in sight.
No wonder he didn’t respond to their call.
"Mr. Rhinoceros?" Zerra called out.
The rhinoceros opened his eyes. When he noticed it was Zerra and Cassias, he snorted and closed them again.
"Mr. Rhinoceros, can you help us? We are being chased by some zombie beasts." She bit her lip and asked. This spiritual beast was quite aloof.
"We already told you to stay in your homes. Who told you to run around and not bother to care about our words?" The rhinoceros asked mockingly without opening his eyes.
Zerra knew that she and Cassias were guilty of this, but... if they weren’t there, there was no one who could inform an adult spiritual beast that there were zombie beasts attacking. The cubs might not survive then.
"It’s indeed our fault." She readily admitted it. "But can you help other cubs, Mr. Rhinoceros? They are currently in danger!"
The rhinoceros opened his eyes, and an unhappy look was plastered on his face. "Cubs shouldn’t lie." His eyes swept over Cassias’ quiet figure with some discontent. "Aren’t you two just looking for someone to escort both of you home?"
Zerra pursed her lips. Judging from his tone, it seemed that he had known Cassias had no adult spiritual beast in his home who could protect him.
The adult rhinoceros disliked him.
Usually, she wouldn’t bother with such a person. But it involved the matter of life and death from the cubs they were familiar with. Even the monkey was among them.
Although the monkey was quite hostile toward Cassias and sometimes targeted him, they just made up. The monkey was very understanding once Cassias explained the reason he avoided everyone.
He had just lost people dear to him.
Even Zerra didn’t expect he would make such a big move by opening up like that, but it was very effective. Alas, their friendship, which had begun to form, was shortly interrupted.
"Mr. Rhino, believe us. There are really some cubs who are chased by zombie beasts!" She was a little frustrated.
They could have proved it to the rhinoceros by using the zombie beast chasing after them. However, it would take some time. They couldn’t afford to waste time like that.
"I don’t believe you. Don’t waste my time." The rhinoceros snorted before closing his eyes again.
Zerra was instantly anxious. She was about to approach the rhinoceros to persuade him again, but she was stopped by Cassias. He shook his head at her.
"How long would it take to arrive at your home?" He asked, pressing his lips together.
"The place is very far..." she trailed off, swallowing her saliva with difficulty.
"Let’s go there." Cassias was about to walk away when Zerra signaled her to stop.
"Mr. Rhino, where is Mr. Bear?" She tried to ask. A few minutes passed, and the rhinoceros remained still.
The bear was also nowhere to be found.
Cassias walked very fast with Zerra in his arms, and as soon as they were out of the rhinoceros’ sight, he spread his wings and they flew toward her home.
Halfway unexpectedly, they found her mother heading in their direction with anxiety on her face. Cassias landed on the ground, and the little fox in his arms was suddenly snatched away.
After she checked Zerra for any signs of injury and found none, she began to ask for the details. The two cubs explained. The tiger was willing to go and save the other cubs. Both cubs sat on her back, and they headed to the destination.
In another place, the rhinoceros grew restless after sitting for a while and returned home. His son was nowhere to be found. Even his mate didn’t know where he had been.
The brat must have sneaked out.
However, when he remembered Zerra’s words, he suddenly turned pale.
