CHAPTER 240: CHAPTER 240: THE RABBIT’S SCHENE

Zerra took a deep breath. The human realm had influenced her so much. So, when she saw Cassias only looked a few little years older, she assumed not long had passed too.

Unexpectedly, it had already been a hundred years flashing by.

The rabbit narrowed its eyes, full of calculation. It didn’t look as intimidated as it had been before. At a glance, Zerra recognized that look. This rabbit was the type who feared the strong and bullied the weak, it seemed.

It didn’t dare to underestimate her because of her size, so it was clear the rabbit had suffered under the same situation before; it must have mistaken a small cub as easy to bully and got beaten back.

Zerra didn’t care. She adjusted her feelings. After pondering it for a while, what the rabbit said made sense too. Some trees were already so tall, so a hundred years must have really passed.

"Are you still young, little cub?" The rabbit tested the water.

"Yes." Zerra nodded. If she wasn’t wrong, the current body she occupied should have a bone age of ten years old.

The rabbit had a flash of annoyance on its face as it pondered something. Her keen senses caught its somewhat incoherent murmur, "... cub... why afraid..."

She eyed the rabbit from head to toe. If she wasn’t wrong, this rabbit didn’t look that old yet. It was using some kind of spell to make itself look bigger.

Accidentally, she caught a flash of a strange gleam in its eyes. It made her even more curious. What kind of thing was this rabbit plotting against her? It looked stupid.

"Why don’t you follow me? You are still so little. A carnivorous spiritual beast might find you and want to swallow you whole." The rabbit resembled a child trafficker at this moment.

Zerra thought about it and nodded. The rabbit seemed to know a lot, so she should try to squeeze more information from it.

The rabbit had a satisfied look on its face when it saw Zerra’s answer. "Let’s go."

"Can you tell me about this forest along the way?"

"Of course. What do you want to know?" The rabbit revealed a smug face. "I know a lot of things."

Considering how fast it could run, Zerra didn’t doubt it at all. The rabbit could have eavesdropped on some other spiritual beast’s conversations and run away after that.

"Do you know where the cave where the tiger used to live at?" Zerra tilted her head.

The rabbit stopped and turned to her with a horrified look on its face. "Why are you asking me such a thing? It’s true that a newborn calf isn’t afraid of a tiger."

"I am a fox cub, not a newborn calf," Zerra said earnestly.

The rabbit’s mouth twitched. It couldn’t argue with her.

She pressed further, letting out a disappointed sigh while saying, "So, you don’t know."

Just as she guessed, the rabbit would be provoked. It was a little flustered. Not a while ago, it had told Zerra it knew a lot of things, but just one question from her, it failed to answer.

However, the rabbit seemed to have some hesitation too. It took a few minutes before it gave her a response. "Why are you looking for the tiger’s cave?"

Zerra smiled innocently. "Just think about it. The tiger is a powerful spiritual beast that a lot of other beasts are afraid of. Do you think she would have a lot of treasure in her cave?"

"You... you!" The rabbit was speechless. "You even dare to rob a tiger’s den?"

"Why not? I am powerful. Believe it or not, I can even beat you!" She boasted.

The rabbit rolled its eyes and ignored her. Even if it sounded a little tempting, it didn’t dare to rob a tiger. As for Zerra’s boastful words, it didn’t believe them.

The cub must be under the impression it was weak because of the initial fearful reactions it had shown... just wait for a bit. The rabbit told itself to be patient.

"Why are you so scared?" She provoked it again. "You must have known where it is, right? Just take a few things from there if they are still intact. If you leave this mountain, the tiger won’t find you."

Zerra delivered the last blow. "You might even find things that help with your cultivation."

She secretly curved up her lips when she saw the rabbit’s expression waver. The rabbit had pretended to be a big rabbit, so it must have dreamed of being a powerful spiritual beast.

"You..." the rabbit’s voice faltered. Its eyes glistened under the sunlight.

The rabbit didn’t speak, but its eyes flitted around, as if looking for any spiritual beasts that might be eavesdropping on their conversation.

They continued to walk in silence; two bundles of white, one big and one small. Zerra followed its steps even if the rabbit didn’t tell where it was going.

An hour later, they finally arrived in a place filled with growing vines. Zerra stared at the cave in a daze. They finally arrived here. Unlike when the tiger was living here, it was abandoned.

"Let’s go in," she immediately said.

"Wait." The rabbit grabbed her tail, looking around cautiously. Now, the scaredy-cat rabbit had become scared again.

She pulled her tail back in annoyance. Without waiting for it further, she walked toward the cave, getting rid of the vines in the process.

After sniffing around for a while, she determined that indeed there was no one who had come here recently. She couldn’t help but feel disappointed. But soon, she cheered herself up.

With her paw, she parted the last layer of vines and entered the cave. The dampness inside was palpable. Moss and some kinds of plants were growing on the cave wall. The plants didn’t grow well because of the lack of sunlight.

"Little cub," the rabbit called out in fear. "You are so reckless." It gulped and whispered. "We should check first if anyone is here. Otherwise, we are screwed."

Zerra rolled her eyes and ignored it. She walked around, noticing that some items there were things she had never seen before. There were no familiar items here...

Either the things inside had been burned down and Nias had replaced them with new ones or someone had been here a long time ago. They might also be items she never really paid attention to. Hence, she forgot about them.

Then, a shadow passed by her.

It was the rabbit, who was now busy touching the items on top of the stone table. There were weapons, or miscellaneous items like bottles, brushes and paper.

Obviously, these weren’t ordinary items.

"Haha, I struck it rich!" The rabbit laughed uproariously. It turned to Zerra after hugging a few weapons. "Little cub, come and pick a few weapons."

The rabbit picked all the weapons that can be considered long-ranged weapons, like bows or whips, which suited its temperament.

Zerra left the room and went to another. A lot had changed, so there was only one way to determine whether it was the correct cave. She bounced around with some familiarity.

Not long after, she found a particular spot. Her eyes scanned the wall, and seeing the drawing on it, she was already sure now. She didn’t spend too much time there, not wanting the rabbit to see the drawings.

It looked so stupid, but what if it could deduce something from these drawings? She didn’t want the rabbit to be scared.

She wanted to see what this silly creature was cooking up in its mind. The rabbit obviously was trying to make use of her for something, even if she couldn’t determine what it was. Her premonition told her it wasn’t going to be a bad thing...

After all, she could beat that rabbit easily as long as it didn’t run away first.

"Little cub. What items are you going to bring back? We must hurry!" The rabbit came toward her.

Zerra no longer saw the items in its paws, so it must have moved them to its inner space.

"I already take a few," she told it.

The rabbit nodded. "Then, let’s go. We can’t stay here for too long."

She followed the rabbit toward the outside of the cave.

As soon as they were outside, it said to her, "I am going to leave this mountain now. How about I bring you to a safe place?"

"Oh?" She twitched her ears, interested. "A safe place?"

The rabbit nodded. "It’s safe for you, but it might not be safe for me."

"How do you know that?" She followed the rabbit as they walked again through the forest.

"You are really asking a lot of questions!" It grumbled.

Zerra pursed her lips, looking unsure. "You sound so suspicious. Now, I am not sure whether the place you are talking about is safe or not."

They continued to bicker for a bit, but Zerra still followed it even with doubtful looks. After a while, the rabbit stopped.

"You look like a beast cub trafficker." She joked. "Are you going to sell me?"

The atmosphere turned oddly quiet. However, Zerra didn’t expect that it wasn’t simply a joke. The scumbag had truly sold her before running away guiltily.
