Apocalypse: Zombie King is the Female Lead's Younger Sister
Chapter 241: Snow-White Fox Cubs
CHAPTER 241: CHAPTER 241: SNOW-WHITE FOX CUBS
Zerra let out a sigh. She stared at the two people in the room, and well... a fox.
The fox wasn’t referring to her, but the pinkish fox that Cassias had rescued. As for the other person, of course, it was Nias.
Now, the two of them were taking care of the pinkish fox, giving her this and that. The fox seemed confused, but it accepted whatever they gave her.
"Is this the fox cub that the silly rabbit invited?" Nias asked, her brows furrowed. She stood up and picked Zerra up.
Zerra pursed her lips, suppressing the strange feeling in her heart. Even though Nias approached her like this, she didn’t recognize her. She treated her just like other cubs...
It gave her a sense of unwillingness and dejection. Still, the original fox in that memory wasn’t her, and this was what had happened a hundred years later.
She was just borrowing the pinkish fox’s body to see things through her eyes.
Nias led her to another room. As the door opened, Zerra wasn’t surprised by what was inside. Dozens of white fox cubs were like white clouds, doing many activities. Some of them had different color marks.
Some were chasing each other playfully, others were eating, and the rest were just lazing around.
"Little one, stay here for a bit, okay?" Nias put Zerra down. She rubbed the top of her head before turning around and closing the door.
Her throat felt blocked. It was as if Nias wasn’t closing the door, but cutting off her oxygen. She took a deep breath and adjusted her emotions, watching the glamorous woman’s back disappearing from her sight.
When she turned around, she realized she had become the center of attention.
"Another one comes!"
She heard the not so inaudible whispers discussing her. The cubs must have thought their voices were low enough, but Zerra’s soul was older than them and her senses were better, so she could still hear their words.
"Is she also kidnapped?"
"Foxnapped!"
The corners of her mouth twitched. Luckily, they were kidnapped by Cassias and Nias, not the spiritual beast cubs trafficker. When Zerra swept her gaze to the cute fox cubs, she realized they must have done this to search for the pink fox cub.
"Hey, little fox, come here." A cute snow-white fox came over to her and dragged her to squeeze in with other fox cubs. "Tell us, how did you get kidnapped? Is it because of that bastard rabbit too?"
Zerra’s eyes widened. "That rabbit also scammed you?"
She thought it was strange. The rabbit cooperated so well with her, showing that scaredy-cat look, then turning into a disdainful gaze as if it realized she was merely a weak cub.
It was all an act! The damn rabbit just wanted to find a way to kidnap and bring her here!
Seeing Zerra’s colorful expression, some foxes had a look of understanding on their faces. She was squeezed between some fat and cute foxes, and when they moved, she could feel herself nearly turning into a meat patty.
"Isn’t that damn rabbit hateful? Just wait until we get out of here. We will find it and beat it up together." A large fox snorted and complained.
Zerra pursed her lips. She doubted the rabbit would still stay on this mountain by the time they came out. Since the pink fox had been found, she guessed they would be released soon.
Looking at the fat snow-white fox cubs in front of her, she realized that all of them were really bigger than her. It was clear Nias and Cassias had done nothing besides confine them. They might even have treated them quite well, fattening them.
"What has the rabbit done to you?" A curious fox cub asked.
Not all foxes here were kidnapped by the rabbit. Some were lured by Nias and Cassias in the search for the correct fox.
The foxes, who had been complaining and shouting, suddenly quieted down. The rabbit looked stupid, but it had fooled them. It was a shameful history, so they didn’t want to reveal it casually to others who hadn’t experienced the same.
Zerra paid no attention to their chattering. Her thoughts were on the other room. She narrowed her eyes. Maybe she could try to talk to them...?
Cassias released her when he had found the pink fox at the spiritual beast cub trafficker’s place. It was clear that the one using the kidnapping tactic was Nias, which was in line with her domineering personality.
So, when the rabbit handed her in, Nias didn’t refuse. Cassias might have recognized her as the same fox he had released, but he didn’t seem to care and just let her be.
She decided to wait until one of them came and released the foxes.
However, until a few days later, there was no sign of them going to be released soon. Nias often came just to deliver food. Before Zerra could talk to her, she would bolt out as fast as possible. Most likely fearing that the fox cubs were going to run away, she had to close the door fast.
Zerra was a little anxious, but such situation lasted for several days.
It was until the fifth day that someone opened the door before lunchtime started. Unexpectedly, it was Cassias. The little boy entered, sending the fox cubs into fright, except for Zerra, who was merely standing stupidly there.
It made her stand out from the rest.
"Little cub. Come with me," he muttered. Without waiting for her response, he scooped her up from the ground, turned around to leave the room, and slammed the door behind him.
Zerra bit her lip, wondering what this little boy was up to.
He brought her to the pink fox’s room. The latter was busy grooming herself, licking her paws. When Cassias and Zerra entered, she turned to them briefly before ignoring them again.
Nias was also inside.
Cassias put her on the table beside the pink fox and went to a seat on the other side of the room.
Zerra was startled, looking around in confusion. What were the two people doing? She glanced at the pink fox. An idea suddenly struck her. They were interested in watching foxes grooming themselves?
Fine! She will do it too. With that thought in mind, she began to imitate the pink fox’s movements while glancing at Nias and Cassias occasionally to gauge their reactions.
Both of them had frowns on their faces. They exchanged glances and hesitated. It was as if they wanted to speak about something but ultimately held themselves back.
"Are you sure it’s the right fox?" Nias started the conversation.
Cassias sent her a look, and she shut her mouth. However, Zerra’s ears couldn’t help but perk up. They were not sure that the pink fox was the one they were looking for, eh?
But... what made them doubt it? It looked exactly the same as her previous body in this Cassias’ consciousness world.
An hour later, she was too tired from standing, so she took a seat on the table, observing. She still didn’t see anything wrong until it was almost dark outside.
"Little cub, can you talk to us?" Nias said in a coaxing tone.
Oh, they seemed to be comparing and observing them.
"Zerra."
She looked up, but the other fox was still oblivious. It laid down on a pillow nearby, prepared to sleep. Nias and Cassias’ eyes were on her.
Zerra narrowed her eyes. Why was their reaction so strange? She glanced at the pink fox and did a quick scan with her limited senses.
Soon, she was stunned. The pink fox... why did she feel like a newborn fox? Hasn’t it been a hundred years?
The pink fox didn’t seem so smart. She resembled an ordinary fox who had just started her cultivation journey. Thinking of this, Zerra revealed a thoughtful look.
"Zerra."
She lifted her head again. This time, Nias was looking at her. Zerra pondered it. Should she speak?
The pink fox might be the wrong one. The fact that her soul occupied this body might mean she was the fox they were looking for. Her heart couldn’t help but beat a little faster.
She should give it a try.
"Mother, Cassias," she called out in an unsure tone, looking at them with her hazel watery eyes.
The room turned deathly still. Except for the pink stupid fox, who was busy sleeping, the two people were staring at her.
Nias and Cassias exchanged glances, as if communicating silently. Zerra was confused. Maybe they didn’t hear it? So, she repeated the two words again.
"Do you know what she says?" Nias suddenly opened her mouth. "The white fox seems to be saying something, but I can’t understand fox language."
Eh? Zerra froze, then she tilted her head in confusion. She was speaking in fox language?
"We have been looking for Zerra for a long time. That damn old man divined that she should be here. He wasn’t lying, was he?" Nias gritted her teeth, sending sharp glare to Cassias. "Answer me. Don’t just sit stupidly there."
Zerra looked at Cassias expectantly. He should be able to understand her words, right?
