Apocalypse: Zombie King is the Female Lead's Younger Sister
Chapter 248: Remember
CHAPTER 248: CHAPTER 248: REMEMBER
"Sands got into my eyes." Nyra let out a humorless chuckle.
Zerra kept staring at the duo, sighing.
This time, Cassias was gone, but the scene in front of her hadn’t changed yet. Even until the orange hue decorated the sky, she stayed in the courtyard.
The conversation between the two people of the opposite origins floated in her ears. Originally, such an innocent young lady and a cold-faced cultivator like Nyra shouldn’t mix, but because of an entanglement in the previous life...
"Where do you live, sister? You said earlier that you have a younger sister, right? If you don’t return soon, she might be worried." The young girl’s face was full of concern.
"She will be fine..." Nyra paused, her gaze fixated on the young girl with a smile. "She is living well with her guardians."
"Oh, she doesn’t follow you to this city?" A curious gleam flickered in her eyes, a little mischievous. "You should introduce me to your younger sister next time."
Nyra’ bit her lip. The smile faded from her face, but she forced out a hum.
The girl kept on talking. "You must have missed her."
She didn’t know what had come over her. The habit from long ago suddenly took over; she reached out to pat the young girl’s hair.
An innocent hazel eyes stared at her, pure and clear.
Nyra froze, but she didn’t retract her hand. The faint warmth stayed in her fingertips, somehow ticklish and a little addictive. She patted the young girl’s head again, savoring the long-lost feeling as it slowly morphed into familiarity.
"You remind me of my younger sister." Nyra admitted.
The young girl let out a giggle. "How long will you stay in this city, sister? If you miss your younger sister, you can come to me!"
The servants stayed close to their little master. When they heard this, they glared at Nyra, worried she might agree.
Nyra, of course, ignored the servants’ venomous glare. She neither agreed nor disagreed. She just smiled.
"Young miss, the Lord is calling you to have dinner together." Suddenly, a servant scurried toward them. She glanced curiously at the unfamiliar guest, Nyra, before she shifted her focus to her little miss again.
"Oh?" The young girl nodded. She turned to Nyra enthusiastically. "Are you hungry, sister? Do you want to join us for dinner?"
Nyra shook her head. "It’s getting dark. I should go."
The girl was visibly disappointed. She mumbled, "Then, another time." As if she recalled something, she whispered to a servant nearest her.
"Sister, since it’s getting dark and you don’t know your way back, how about letting a guard from our mansion escort you back? He definitely knows the way!" The young girl offered.
Nyra nodded slowly, almost forgetting she had used such a sloppy excuse. The servants didn’t believe her words, but the innocent young girl definitely did. After all, she was still too young.
A guard came a few minutes later. He looked at Nyra doubtfully, but since it was his young miss’ order, he would make sure to get it done.
As such, the two parted. Nyra bid the girl a farewell.
She took one last look at the girl before blending into the darkness. Her smile, enthusiastic face as she talked about dinner floated to her ears.
The girl had a pair of caring parents, well-fed and a decent shelter above her head. Why should she, an outsider, come and forcefully insert herself in their happy family?
A reincarnated person wasn’t exactly the same person as their previous life version. They had different experiences growing up. Naturally, their personalities were also different.
She... wasn’t her younger sister.
However, at this time, a thunderous voice broke her out of her reverie.
"Zerra! Zee, my dear daughter!"
Her steps faltered slightly. But this time, she didn’t look back.
Compared to Nyra’s sentimentality, Zerra was full of turmoil. She would be stupid if she didn’t notice from all the signs now. It was as clear as a day.
Countless scenes, a few reincarnations, yet they all had the same names. Her heart stirred. She no longer chased after Nyra... instead, she went back.
The first reason was that Nyra walked too quickly. She couldn’t chase after her. The other... well, she was here for Cassias. She should obediently wait for him to show up instead of wandering around.
She should remember her true purpose, yet she couldn’t help herself from the overwhelming feelings.
Cassias’ memories mostly revolved around her.
She let out a sigh, staring at the closed house. Closing her eyes, she willed herself to pass through the wall, and she did.
The scene in front of her... was familiar and unfamiliar at the same time.
Who were those two people? The young woman looked like someone in her early twenties. No one would know she had birthed a daughter who was already thirteen years old. Her husband was the same–both had youthful appearance.
Sitting in the middle of them was an adolescent girl.
The family chattered in a light and joyful atmosphere. Zerra kept on staring at the parents’ countenance, deep in thought.
Actually, she did wonder. If these memories were supposed to be hers, why had she never remembered them? Even now, her memories of the celestial realm had blurred a lot. Was it because of her countless reincarnations or the fact that she was a human in the modern time?
The human body held a lot of limitations, and their brains couldn’t hold a lot of memories like a celestial would.
"Mom, Dana and others want to plan for a poetry reciting activity. Can I bring them in my courtyard?" The girl suddenly asked.
Zerra glanced at her faintly, frowning. Soon, her gaze was back to the parents again. Even though it was the first time she had seen them, why did they feel so familiar...?
As a thought crossed her mind, she let out a gasp.
"Of course, just tell us when the date is. Your mom will help you to prepare for it." The elegant woman ruffled her daughter’s hair. Her manners showed she was part of the nobility.
Zerra turned around, not wanting to see the scene anymore.
Days passed boringly. She understood why the girl–it was herself, yet she couldn’t find the single connection between that girl and the current her–had insisted on inviting her friends to her courtyard.
The girl was too lonely. She had only her servants who would accompany her. The servants were older, and more than that, there would be differences between a master and their servants. The latter were naturally more restrained in front of the former.
It wouldn’t be a genuine friendship even if there was any.
Her mother worked as a tutor for etiquette lessons. Meanwhile, her father was a court official but also a businessman. They both were similarly busy people.
Unfortunately, they also rarely let their daughter get out for fear of her getting hurt.
But... it didn’t matter. Because trouble could always find its way. For example, Cassias... who finally appeared again.
After the girl’s friends finished with their poetry reciting activity, they suggested that they go out and visit the lake for boat sailing. The girl seemed to hesitate–she hadn’t asked permission from her parents–but she eventually relented under their persuasion.
Unsurprisingly, something happened there. The girl didn’t join the other girls in boat sailing, simply waiting for them at the gazebo near the lake.
Cassias didn’t miss this opportunity. He pretended to be injured, and the girl, taking pity on him, ordered the guards to bring him home and took care of him. Her mansion wasn’t too far from the lake.
Her parents were against treating him when they found out, but the girl insisted. After some persuasion the parents just let it be.
Until Cassias woke up and they saw how talented he was. As such, they hired him as their daughter’s bodyguard. His skills brought them at ease. As such, they also allow the girl to go out more.
"Mom, Dad, I will go to the lake. My friends are already waiting for me." The girl was extremely excited. After begging countless times, they finally let her board the boat.
Her bodyguard had saved people who nearly drowned a lot of times, so his skills were unquestionable.
However, the worst outcome still happened. The girl’s boat had trouble and they flipped, making her almost drown. Cassias didn’t hesitate to jump in the lake and saved her.
At the same time... Zerra gasped in utter bewilderment.
She had been tossed to the side as a mere bystander. Why did she occupy the girl’s body now?!
Too bad that she almost lost consciousness. In fact, a minute later, she did.
Her vision blackened. She was shoved back again into that pitch black nothingness. Only, this time there was a difference. A voice, soft, and seemed to contain endless longing, floated to her ears.
"Do you remember now?"
The same question Cassias had asked her back then.
She snapped awake. Her dull senses almost couldn’t recognize where she was.
"What is it?" She stared at her lap in confusion.
And... where is Cassias?
She was back at the top of the whale’s body again.
