Apocalypse: Zombie King is the Female Lead's Younger Sister
Chapter 50: Zombie Control
CHAPTER 50: CHAPTER 50: ZOMBIE CONTROL
Henry’s heart trembled at the incoming danger. He was frozen like a statue, not expecting his subordinate to turn into a zombie at all.
"Boss!"
A voice with a sense of urgency rang in his ears, then someone dragged him a few centimeters away from his original spot. However, it was enough to save his life, as the zombified William reached for empty air.
The zombie roared and chased after them. Henry now had recovered his senses, and he jumped away. As a wind ability user, he created a gust of wind that knocked the zombie away.
"Help, help me!" His other subordinate croaked desperately.
He frantically crawled away. His eyes were full of betrayal when he saw Henry scramble away without looking back.
When Henry used his wind power, it also knocked him off his feet. The zombie was right beside him. He tried to kick it away, but he found out that this zombie was too frightening.
It was stronger than the ordinary zombie. One kick that could usually push them away easily did nothing to it. Instead, the zombie grabbed his feet.
It roared, then chomped down on his flesh.
Nyra, who had returned while bringing a few boxes of supplies, saw the direction Zerra was pointing at. She set down her things and jumped into the zombie.
"What are you waiting for? Fight it or you will be next!" She growled at them. Her fire burned the back of its head, spreading fast from the hair.
The commotion attracted everyone’s attention. Darren was the first person to come to Nyra’s aid. He took out his blade, aiming it at the zombie’s head. More people joined.
They all unleashed their abilities; those with ice ability trying to freeze the zombie, and wind ability users made an attempt to knock the zombie off the screaming man.
When they finally succeeded in withdrawing its attention, the subordinate’s feet were already badly mangled. Chomped down by the zombie’s teeth and raked by its nails.
"What is this zombie’s flesh made of?" someone muttered as he used his blade to hack the zombie’s back. The zombie’s skin wasn’t easily torn like the usual rotten flesh.
"He was an ability user." Nyra said as she sent balls of fire toward the raging zombie. "His current stronger power might be related to it."
Zerra nodded inwardly at Nyra’s explanation. The higher one’s power level was, the more immune they were toward the zombie virus. However, once the zombie virus managed to break their body’s defense, the result would be disastrous.
They would become a zombie much stronger than their usual kind. William was zombie level three, higher than her level.
The more they fought, the more the zombie was losing. It couldn’t hold out against a dozen opponents.
Its eyes raised. Empty white color gazed straight at Zerra. She shuddered; her face turned pale. No, no, no, she chanted in her head.
It had noticed that they were a fellow zombie, and... she had a strange sensation in her limbs.
The zombie was now desperate, calling for her help.
The hand that was clutching the knife trembled. She stiffly let go, making clanging sounds to the ground.
"Zerra?" Cassias immediately noticed something was wrong with her. "Are you not feeling well?"
She looked away from the scene. Something stuck in her mouth, and she couldn’t talk. She was concentrating hard, afraid that the moment she did not, she would lose control and rush there.
"You look pale. Let’s go to the car." Cassias grabbed her hand.
She snapped. Everything was a blur as a pitchfork appeared in her hand and she rushed to the people around the zombie.
Her heart jumped out of her chest. Fear crept to her entire cells. She was incredibly scared of the outcome. Her hands might stab an innocent person, and then the accusing stares.
They would know she was a zombie and get rid of her.
"Open your eyes." She heard a low, smooth voice whisper in her ears.
Out of instinct, her eyes opened. She was inches away from Cassias’ face, staring directly into his deep, dark eyes.
And the pitchfork, it was embedded deep into the zombie’s chest, who was twitching madly and letting out low grunts.
It wasn’t her who was holding the pitchfork. Cassias’ hands were on hers. At a glance, she knew that it was with his power they successfully stabbed the zombie.
The surrounding people stared at them with wide eyes, shocked. They hadn’t expected the seemingly thin Zerra to suddenly jump into the battle.
Zerra took in a sharp breath. Her chest heaved up and down. She let go of the pitchfork, and Cassias took over. He pulled the tool, then used it to stab the zombie’s skull.
The zombie collapsed. No sounds came out of its mouth. It twitched madly for a few minutes before completely going still.
He held Zerra’s chilly hands. His tall frame crouched down slightly, skillfully dug out the zombie’s white crystal core before he dragged her away.
"What the hell just happened?" Someone shivered. "I almost thought that the girl was about to stab me. She was so fast, then..."
"She was aiming for the zombie, fool."
"Yes. I was just explaining how I felt at that time. It’s strange."
"The zombie was beside you." The person shot back.
Nyra narrowed her eyes. She watched as Cassias brought Zerra away. Her eyes were thoughtful.
The girl still looked shaken after what she had just experienced. Her gaze stared ahead, but unfocused. The lips pressed into a thin line.
Zerra was indeed traumatized, but not because she had killed a zombie. That feeling as if her body was no longer hers... like it was under the control of someone else. She loathed it.
The sensation made her utterly powerless. Especially when she still had her consciousness intact and witnessed what her two hands were about to do to someone else.
"Here, take a few sips of water." Cassias handed her a bottle of water. She took it with a faint tremble in her hands.
"You already did a good job. Don’t be afraid." He continued. "Just lie down and take some deep breaths."
She nodded and followed as she was told. Her palms were wet. She clenched her hands. Her eyes reignited with a new determination.
In order for the plot, or whatever that force was, she had to grow stronger. Other zombies or even the main protagonists wouldn’t be able to control her by then.
By the time dinner started, she already adjusted her emotions. Cassias had accompanied her for half an hour before she requested to be alone.
She had closed her eyes and cultivated like there was no tomorrow. As a result, she just broke through to level three.
"Miss Zerra, how did you do it? The zombie was very strong!"
"Yes, it was amazing. Aren’t you an ordinary person? Miss Nyra said that the zombie should have power level three at least."
They glanced at her with a look of curiosity and bombarded her with a lot of questions.
