CHAPTER 53: CHAPTER 53: FIGURING OUT HER POWER

She instinctively closed her eyes. In order to survive, she must do something!

Wait, wasn’t she a level three zombie now? She remembered what that stinky zombie had done to her. If it could do that, then she...

In an extremely short amount of time, Zerra focused her mind on the zombies below. She pray that they wouldn’t be interested in eating her.

She landed somewhere, safe with a bit force and out of breath, but at least she could still sense that her limbs were intact. No blood or twisted limbs.

Her eyes opened, finding Cassias’ face right in front of her. He was good looking with that joyful look on his face. Still... she bopped in his cheek with her paw.

Unsatisfied, she did it again. Then, again and again. The belly, full of frustration, was relieved when she saw his shocked face. Look at that widened eyes and slightly opened mouth.

She shoved her evil paw ahead to his mouth.

Cassias caught her paw before it managed to get inside.

"Alright. It’s not the time to play," He reminded her after stealing a quick brush against her soft fur. He abruptly moved, avoiding a zombie’s claw.

Zerra quickly realized the situation they were in. She had just ordered the zombies to catch her, and now they were heading to the same place–the spot she should have fallen into had Cassias not acted so quickly to catch her.

She rarely saw him went all out like now. Approximately, there were over a hundred zombies in this place.

He would use his lightning power, even a pitchfork and gun, just to kill them. She shuddered slightly; the way he was so skillfully taking out the crystal cores as soon as a flock of zombies were down... it was as if he was slaughtering livestocks.

And that was him merely using one hand. His left hand was holding her.

She thought about it and decided to slip away when he wasn’t looking. Where else she would find zombies to experiment on without countless eyes who might be watching?

Her feet trotted away quickly. Before Cassias could reach for her, he was swarmed by another group of zombies.

She inwardly snickered.

"Come back..."

Ignoring him, she started with the nearest zombie. Using some sort of telepathy method she recently discovered from the William zombie, she ordered it to go to Cassias.

The zombie instantly executed her order, making clawing motion, trying to reach Cassias.

She didn’t do that to just one, but any zombies she could find. Indeed, they instantly went to go after Cassias after they heard her order, but she was unsatisfied.

None of the zombie attacked her, so she could sit down and think.

She was having an existential crisis.

There was one thing for sure; those zombies didn’t attack her as long as she was in the fox form. Once she turned into a human, her fate would be like Cassias, engulfed in a sea of zombies.

The experiment wasn’t perfect either. There was Cassias nearby, delicious meat among the flock of hungry wolves.

She wasn’t sure whether they went after him because she ordered them or was it simply because of hunger?

To check the extent of her power and influence, she needed to test it without any other living being near the area. It was best if she could do it in both human and fox forms, too.

"You actually abandoned me, huh? Was it you too who told the zombies to go after me?" A gust of wind blew her fur.

Her pupils dilated when she processed what Cassias had said. Oh, he was too perceptive. He even noticed that it was her doing, having split his focus during the battle.

She turned her head away. Her tail pointed to the sky pridefully, ignoring him.

"You don’t want them?"

He shoved the colorful crystal cores in front of her; what a hateful gesture. Her eye twitched...

A clattering sound finally made her turn her head. She watched with slightly widened eyes as Cassias poured the crystal cores into a bowl.

He shook it in front of her teasingly. The clinking sound rang in her ears. She sniffed the bowl.

"They are clean. I already washed it a few times with the spring water."

Zerra held out her paws on the bowl’s edge. Her face felt hot when she heard Cassias’ low chuckle. Ignoring him, she temporarily put away her shame and ate the crystal cores.

He tapped her head. "So, little thing. Not only you have advanced your power, but you can actually also control zombies?"

Zerra lifted her head. Her eyes narrowed, then she lifted her chin with pride, confirming his words. Whatever, he already found out, anyway. It was useless to hide it now.

No doubt that he also must have found out she was the ones throwing stones at the Brown family’s thugs earlier.

Other than that... she knew that her advancement was quite fast. Now, her power was on par with Nyra, who was also at level three. Well, although she also admitted that Nyra did advance a week earlier than her.

"How did you manage to follow me here?" Cassias’ tone was tinged with curiosity. Her eyes flashed as she continued to savor her crystal cores.

She was a fox now. Of course, she couldn’t answer him.

Surprisingly, that night Cassias opened the door to all places near the supermarket. He killed any zombies he found inside.

At some point, he even brought the people Zerra had conquered before and let them do free labor–collecting crystal cores from the unmoving zombies’ brain.

"Isn’t that man too frightening? He actually hid his power before. The zombies here should number around a hundred. He killed all of them by himself." The Brown family’s minion nudged the friend beside him.

"He already went easy on us by throwing those pebbles... but wasn’t his power a lighting ability? Does he have a second power like earth ability?" The person whispered back in a frightened tone.

"Draven, say it. Do you know something?" They both turned to the ice ability user nearby, who was diligently moving from one zombie to another.

Draven jolted, and he glanced at Cassias before hurriedly shaking his head. "Don’t ask me. I don’t know anything."

He got up and went to find other zombies.

Zerra was a very satisfied fox tonight. Until the shift changed to another group, she had eaten a lot of crystal cores.

It was the time for her to go back. However, she found out that no matter how hard she tried to pry Cassias’ grip on her, he never loosened it.

He didn’t want her to let go. She was having a mental panic now. This stinky human. What if she suddenly turned into a human again in front of him?

"Why are you clawing and biting me?" He asked as they entered the car to sleep. The area was safe after he wiped out all zombies in the nearby areas.

"Sleep." He pressed her head against the blanket, wrapping her like a dumpling. "It would be better if you don’t run away, little thing."

She couldn’t even go back to her motel room now. What should she do?!
