Apocalypse: Zombie King is the Female Lead's Younger Sister
Chapter 62: Suspicioun
CHAPTER 62: CHAPTER 62: SUSPICIOUN
She was stunned. Her mouth parted, and her eyes went wide.
Almost she thought she had misheard.
"That’s a strange name." Laziel commented with wide eyes. "If you pronounce it correctly, isn’t that similar to Zerra’s nickname at home?"
Cassias raised his eyebrows. It took him a while before he answered. "Maybe."
"That can’t be right..." he sent Cassias a complicated gaze. "Or are you saying that Zerra is as cunning as a fox? She is anything but cunning. Her brain wouldn’t be able to conjure clever tricks..."
Usually, Zerra would be annoyed if she heard Laziel’s last sentence, but she was too engrossed in her emotions to care. Currently, she was in a fright.
Why did she feel that Cassias was always testing her? Perhaps because she never appeared in front of him at the same time in both human and fox form?
"The fox is so cute. Zerra might like it," Cassias suddenly commented.
"Do you want to wake her up?" Laziel blinked. "Oh, that’s right! She has never seen the fox yet. I remember she also likes fluffy things."
Before anyone could answer, Laziel was already walking toward Zerra’s room as if he were carrying out an important mission.
Zerra’s alarm abruptly rang in her head. She panicked, her mind considering whether to go after Laziel or directly ran away.
"What’s wrong?" When she came to her senses, she was already in Cassias’ lap.
Gritting her teeth, she tapped his hand and then curled up in his lap. As if she were telling him; she was tired and didn’t want to meet anyone!
She thought that Cassias wouldn’t understand. The thought of slipping away again crossed her mind. She could have climbed through the window to her room...
The coldness that dissipated from her skin snapped her back to her senses. She was inside Cassias’ space again. Briefly, she tilted her head in wonder. How come Cassias always understood what she meant?
She didn’t think about the question too much, because soon she was attracted to other things.
Her heart was full of glee as she scanned her surroundings. Full of grasslands and warm. The spring filled with fresh water beckoned her. The sunny weather was simply the most comfortable.
The fox, forgetting her current trouble and possibility of her identity getting discovered, was like a curious cat as she jumped around. She swam in the spring, climbed a tree, and picked a few fruits...
Eh? Zerra was startled when she encountered a rebound force. Her tiny figure landed a few meters away in the soft grass.
She tried again and again. There seemed to be an invisible wall that separated her from the grape orchard. She was only less than one meter away, yet the distance now had become worlds apart.
It looked like Cassias hadn’t unlocked all the regions in his space yet.
Then, she had another realization. How long has she been here? It had been hours! What about the cooldown or limitations? It was all fake.
Cassias, that liar! She gritted her teeth, feeling stupid for having believed him.
Her initial excitement morphed into panic. That stinky male lead imprisoned her here. How could she get out?
The small fox faced back and forth. At some point in time, she eventually fell asleep due to tiredness. If her current version couldn’t solve her problem, she hoped that her version of tomorrow magically could solve it...
"Why do you look so angry?" When she woke up again, she was in Cassias’ arms.
She ignored him; her eyes went to find Laziel’s figure. He was not in the room. Her heart palpitated, wondering whether they had broken into her room or not.
None was there. Fortunately, it was locked. But with their way of thinking... she had trust issues.
"Do you want crystal cores?" Cassias brushed his chilly fingers against her snow-white fur.
Zerra perked up. She bit fingers and jumped down from his arms. After walking inside his space for so long, she couldn’t find where he had hidden his crystal cores.
Rabbit holes, small caves — she had gone through a lot of places. There wasn’t a single crystal core there. This man must have restricted her to certain places.
"Where are you going?" She sensed him standing up to follow. Zerra turned around and hissed, baring her teeth.
She let out a few small yips, telling him that if he followed her, she would be even more angry with him!
"Alright. I will sit down now. Don’t be angry." Cassias’ voice was full of coaxing.
Zerra froze in shock. Thousands of thoughts ran through her mind at this moment. Her eyes were wide as she looked at Cassias in disbelief.
"What’s wrong?" Cassias asked again in a concerned tone.
She turned around and ran out of the door. Once she was out of the room, she nearly stumbled on Laziel’s feet. She didn’t stop even when Laziel was calling out to her.
"Eh, Foxy? Are you going to run away again?"
Her small legs ran like her life depended on it. She passed her room, then jumped out through the nearest window. Her paw unlocked the crossbar window lock, and she ran out, closing the window.
After she was outside, she wasted no time climbing up and jumping inside using spiritual energy. The window creaked open, and the next second, she was in her room, breathing hard.
She clutched the key to her room. It had fallen down the moment she shifted into a fox. She was clever enough to shove it through the gap below the door to her room before others found it.
Her tiny figure paced back and forth again. The disbelief in her chest hadn’t faded; her heart tightened.
Cassias really understood her words! And it made her absolutely horrified. What do to?
As usual, she transformed back into her human form. It always happened as soon as she was out of the male lead’s sight.
"Zerra, if you don’t answer us, we will open the door." Laziel’s voice came from outside her room.
"Sorry to trouble you, Scott." His voice rang again after half a minute.
Zerra took in a sharp breath. She hurriedly yelled at them, "I am here! Don’t break the door."
She was half running as she clutched the key and forcefully inserted it into the lock. Her other hand pulled up the crossbar lock. Not long after, the door was opened.
There were Laziel and Scott standing in front of her.
Laziel turned to Scott. "Sorry for troubling you, Scott. It’s good that she is alright." He visibly heaved a sigh of relief.
"That’s fine. I will go first to prepare." With that, Scott left them. He seemed better after getting some rest.
Cassias walked out of the room, and their gazes locked onto each other. Zerra was the first to break away.
"What’s wrong?" Zerra pretended to ask.
Laziel crossed his arms across his chest, clicking his tongue. "You are still asking what’s wrong? You slept for so long, and none of us could wake you up."
Zerra pursed her lips. "Sorry... I was too tired."
He let out a breath and sighed. "We almost broke into your room..." then, he waved his hand, "Nevermind, forget about it."
"Just clean yourself and get prepared." He added.
"Prepare for what?" Zerra subconsciously asked. Her gaze swept over Cassias’ figure again.
"Because of the fog, there are people who turn into zombies." Cassias opened his mouth. "The residents here ask us for help to obliterate the zombies and mutated animals."
She turned her gaze toward the window, realizing that the fog had turned thin. Maybe it will completely disappear tomorrow.
"Zerra, have you seen a fox?" Cassias suddenly asked, his eyes full of scrutiny.
He was smiling.
