CHAPTER 530: EXCHANGING LIFE SAVING HERBS (2)
Lei Qian looked at the hoe in his hands and sighed. He had never once done tasks like these; as the heir of a company, why would he play with the soil? Though he was a bit helpless, he couldn’t refuse. After all, his wife had already spoken; if he didn’t listen, then it would be problematic.
He lifted the hoe and started loosening the soil, and it was then that he recalled that the plants that were growing on this patch were gone. He turned to look at Bai Meiyue and asked, "What happened to the plants that were growing here?"
"They are gone." Bai Meiyue sat down on the small stool and pulled the bone broth soup towards her. The soup was neither too hot nor too cold; it was just right to drink. She picked up the bowl and brought it to her lips before taking a sip. She knew that Lei Qian was going to get suspicious because of the plants disappearing in thin air.
But there was nothing she could do. Who would have expected that the man would suddenly barge into the greenhouse? The two of them separated just a while ago, and she was not hoping to run into him so soon. Bad luck. Ah, it was her bad luck.
Just as Bai Meiyue expected, Lei Qian’s doubts surged. The plants were so tall and heavy; how could Bai Meiyue move them on her own? And he knew that Bai Meiyue cared about their son enough not to do such a risky thing. Then how did the plants disappear in just a matter of a few hours?
"And what do you want to do after removing those plants?" Lei Qian casually asked, trying to understand what Bai Meiyue was trying to do or what her secret was.
"Grow some new plants," replied Bai Meiyue as she pointed to the plants that were placed in the corner of the greenhouse.
When Lei Qian turned and saw the herbs that Bai Meiyue was talking about growing, he nearly fainted. He knew these herbs, and he knew how rare these herbs were. They could be sold for billions if they were sold in the auction, and yet Bai Meiyue was growing them in her greenhouse like they were cabbage or leeks.
He asked in a trembling voice, "Where did you get them?"
"I always had them," Bai Meiyue replied curtly, and Lei Qian turned to look at the woman behind him. He wanted to ask what she meant by that; she always had them, but he knew that he would never be able to get an answer from Bai Meiyue. After all, when she was in a mood like that, she would rather fight to the death than tell the truth.
He sighed. He knew that his wife had a lot of secrets, and he wondered when he would be able to find something.
Bai Meiyue sighed in relief when she saw that Lei Qian was working honestly without asking any more questions. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to tell him the truth, but she couldn’t trust Lei Qian. Not unless she saw this man pushing that woman with whom he was chummy in her last life. Without that, she would never show her cards to Lei Qian.
Bai Meiyue knew that she was being paranoid, but it was better than being pushed to a corner. The last thing she wanted was for her to be trapped by Lei Qian in case he changed his mind later on. Of course, if he dared to hurt her, she would turn this man into a eunuch and let that woman suffer the wrath of going against her and stealing her man.
Lei Qian, who was working hard in the small patch, felt a tremor climb up his spine. He turned and looked at Bai Meiyue, who smiled at him, but something about her smile made Lei Qian frown even harder. What was going on? Why did he feel like his life was in danger? And what was with the chill between his legs?
"What are you looking at me for?" Sensing that the man was looking at her with a rather troubled look, Bai Meiyue was worried that he could see what was going on in her mind. She touched her nose guiltily and then pushed the man to continue working.
Lei Qian narrowed his eyes. He was sure that there was something dangerous cooking in the head of the woman, but he still pursed his lips and turned to dig the soil. With Lei Qian helping her, it didn’t take more than half an hour for the herbs to be planted in the patch.
Seeing the herbs fluttering in the air, Bai Meiyue was quite happy.
"Why are you so happy?" Lei Qian asked as he nursed his arms. He looked at the woman who was staring at the herbs as if they were the source of her elixir.
"Because these herbs will protect us in the face of the plague."
"Oh, I see. plague—PLAGUE!"
Lei Qian screeched so hard that the entire house shook with his cry. Bai Meiyue stuffed her fingers in her ears and looked at the beams of her house. She was certain that some dust had fallen down the beams just now because of Lei Qian’s scream.
"Why are you screaming?" Bai Jixuan was the first one to rush upstairs. He looked at Bai Meiyue and then turned to look at the rather pale-looking Lei Qian. Realising that the one in danger was Lei Qian and had always been, he turned to look at Lei Qian and asked, "Are you alright? Did she hurt you?"
Lei Qian Bai Meiyue = Bai Jixuan’s thinking.
"Hey." Bai Meiyue looked at her second brother and hurled a small pebble at the head of her brother. What did he mean by that she hurt Lei Qian? Could he not see that she was the one pregnant here?!
