Apocalyptic Era: Starting from picking up a Bishoujo
Chapter 668: 626 True Spirit and Soul
What Xiaowan possesses is not an ordinary Right Positioning Heavenly Phenomena, but one strengthened by the Power of Divine Seal Fragments. Things that other Divine Sons cannot achieve, Xiaowan might be able to. Just as Weichi himself has said, the Power of Divine Seal Fragments can turn the impossible into possible, achieving a breakthrough from zero to one. This is something Weichi knows best.
However, it's no wonder Weichi is finding this so unbelievable at the moment. Firstly, Xiaowan's proposal involves someone he loves deeply—the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment; to avoid disappointment, it's human nature not to hope from the beginning. Secondly, "summoning a spirit that no longer exists" sounds indeed counterintuitive. Until I saw Xiaowan accomplish such a thing, I too thought it was an impossible miracle.
After a moment, Weichi finally calmed down and said, "Okay... let's assume you can do it, but why do you suddenly want to help me communicate with the Qilin?"
"There is no deep intention. To put it bluntly, it's just an exchange of favors," Xiaowan said earnestly. "I want to help you achieve a wish you cannot fulfill with your own strength, and in return, I hope you can repay this favor to Brother Zhuang Cheng in the future.
"Now that Ming Zhuo has already entered the Post-mortem World, just as Sister Mazao no longer needs to guard against a sneak attack from Ming Zhuo, you no longer have to worry about being threatened by Ming Zhuo, and certainly don't need to rely on Brother Zhuang Cheng as a pillar of support. In this situation, forging new connections is necessary.
"You are Luo Mountain's most formidable master formation, also holding the Power of Divine Seal Fragments. Luo Mountain's future advances into the Post-mortem World are almost entirely built on your wisdom, which speaks to your profound array mastery. Although purely in terms of strength, you may not aid Brother Zhuang Cheng much, Brother Zhuang Cheng's weaknesses are always outside the field of combat, and your presence can certainly play an incredibly significant role in those areas."
Her words were straightforward. In matters of interest like these, perhaps candor is exactly what's needed. After listening, Weichi seemed to quickly accept it and said, "It seems you are considering this aspect... to say the least, you do indeed support Zhuang Cheng outside the battlefield."
Actually, even within the battlefield, I've received very reliable support from Xiaowan.
"I understand... then, I'll leave it to you." Weichi seemed to have made a big decision. "I want to talk to the Qilin... is there any preparation I need to make?"
"Something with a profound connection to the Qilin from its lifetime is needed," Xiaowan said, "like its remains or ashes..."
"Unfortunately, the Qilin's remains are gone." Weichi shook his head.
"Then, at the very least, something with a deep bond with it. Do you have such an item?" Xiaowan inquired.
"...Yes." After recalling, Weichi said, "It's in my home, a jade pendant. It's the keepsake I exchanged with the Qilin in the past, which contains a drop of the Qilin's blood."
"A single drop of blood may not be enough, but..." Xiaowan thought for a moment and said, "Since it's a keepsake, it should have extraordinary significance. If it truly embodies an important sentiment, then without a doubt, it possesses a deep bond. I think it's worth a try."
Weichi nodded, "Alright... then, when do you intend to start?"
"There's no better time than the present; how about today? Brother Zhuang Cheng, is that okay?"
Xiaowan made the proposal while looking at me, as if seeking my permission. I nodded.
We returned to the 15th-floor basement and then through the ceiling passageway, returned to the world of the living.
Just like that, a casual walk seemed like a frivolous crossing between the underworld and the world of the living. From the always night-time Post-mortem World, we transferred to the world of the living where the sun hadn't set yet. There were no special changes in light or shadow, nor any particularly noteworthy feelings. It just felt like the air on the living side was warmer, as summer was approaching. It was akin to stepping from an air-conditioned room into an outdoor space.
Although this wasn't my first experience of traversing the two worlds, it still made me sigh with emotion. Then, we quickly returned to the Luoshan Headquarters and entered Weichi's residence.
Being one of the fewer than twenty members at the Great Success Rank in Luoshan, Weichi has his own estate at the headquarters, a courtyard with a blend of Chinese and Western styles, accompanied by a few servants along the way. In the center of the courtyard stood an impressive villa, and we moved inside towards the upper level.
"I thought you'd question me more," I said.
"Are you referring to the ability to communicate with the Qilin? Though it still seems unbelievable... matters related to summoning the dead inherently contain mysterious unsolved mysteries... When Ying Lingyun attempted to revive the Great Demon Silver Moon, you were deeply involved in that case, so you should understand what I mean?" Weichi said complexly.
I understood what he implied.
Yinyue, who died long ago, had also disintegrated completely. At that time, the post-mortem world was already sealed, and her soul could not have settled into the afterlife. Countless people at Luoshan confirmed that Yinyue was truly dead with nothing remaining, a death as complete as that of the Qilin.
On the other hand, as long as conditions "so stringent they are practically impossible to achieve" are met and power "so enormous it is virtually impossible to gather" is amassed, it remains possible to resurrect the true Yinyue. This is just as inexplicable as Little Bowl's upcoming Spirit Communication with the Qilin.
However, having mastered True Spirit Power, and used it to kill a human god and a Great Demon, I have had experiences and intuitions about "souls" that even the Impermanence cannot necessarily obtain.
I don't know if this description is appropriate — if the world we live in is a game, then the Great True Spirit is both the developer and the player, and the soul of every living being is akin to a character created by the Great True Spirit in the game.
From the perspective of the True Spirit, the death of a character is merely the entry into a state called "death." Even if disintegration is reached, the character itself does not truly vanish. Therefore, as long as specific procedures are completed and the price is paid, it is possible to reverse the death state.
Of course, this procedure and cost vary according to the nature of the deceased's existence and the cause of death. For ordinary deceased individuals, even if they are disintegrated, Impermanence only needs to slightly tweak history to resurrect them. I myself have resurrected over a hundred deceased individuals who Xu Gou cut and pasted from history into the present using the Power of Word Spirit.
For deceased individuals of the Great Success Rank, the difficulty of resurrection procedures and the exorbitance of the cost make achieving it essentially an impossible task. As for the deceased by Impermanence, it is, in fact, absolutely impossible to resurrect them. Even if the target is an ordinary person killed by Impermanence with great intent and power, they will fall into a state of being theoretically impossible to resurrect.
The most absolute death is "True Death," which is caused by being killed by True Spirit Power.
Using the previous analogy, for the True Spirit, this is akin to the character itself being "deleted from the game." It's not merely a matter of whether the character is in a death state; the character itself cannot be retrieved from the system at all.
Therefore, even if all the Great Demons are theoretically only fictive creations simulated and condensed by the Naraku Gospel, once they are eliminated by True Spirit Power, they will fall into a state of being unsummonable ever again, because "these characters have been deleted."
In a sense, the relationship between the Naraku Gospel and the Great Demons is likely very similar to that between the Great True Spirit and all beings.
The same is true for that; even if Ming Zhuo is as Little Bowl speculates, able to continue existing in an incomplete True Spirit form after being shattered and disintegrated, it is merely hiding in a gray area to evade the judgment of death. While this method is certainly an excellent cheat in everyday settings, it cannot demonstrate skill in front of genuine True Spirit Power. Once its "character (soul)" is "deleted" by True Spirit Power, it can no longer be restored and will forever lose its access point to the real world.
The incomplete True Spirit form is destined not to last long, neither for me nor for Ming Zhuo. With time, its self will thoroughly dilute and disappear in the dark abyss of death. Additionally, though this is merely my private speculation, a fully manifested and enlightened person may not be an exception.
Little Bowl might also have a realization similar to mine. In the past, she claimed she didn't know what exactly the disintegrated entities she communicated with were. Now, however, she asserts with certainty that she can truly perform Spirit Communication with the Qilin. After absorbing the knowledge that "the Power of Divine Seal Fragments is True Spirit Power," she has evidently gained a clearer grasp of her abilities.
We entered a spacious bedroom on the third floor of the villa, where Weichi slowly walked to the bedside cabinet and took out a green and white jade pendant from the drawer. Encased in the jade's center was a drop of bright red blood.
He fondly stroked the jade pendant and then handed it to Little Bowl.
Little Bowl extended her hands, solemnly accepting the jade pendant, then lowered her head for a closer examination. Weichi seemed a bit nervous, holding his breath as he watched for Little Bowl's reaction. After a few seconds, Little Bowl nodded and said, "This jade pendant indeed bears a profound sentiment... it can be used."
Weichi's face unveiled an indescribable excitement.
Little Bowl then added a caveat: "However, it can only be used this once, and the conversation time cannot last long. The object, being Impermanence, cannot be communicated with at will; hoping to repeatedly rely on this jade pendant for conversations is impossible.
"Moreover, even if you have other fated objects, they probably cannot be used either. The jade pendant is merely a medium; the true acting force is still the bond between you and the other party. This will be an irreproducible miracle which I hope you understand."
"I understand... I never expected to be able to converse with the Qilin over and over," Weichi took a deep breath, "I'm already mentally prepared, please proceed."
