Apocalyptic Era: Starting from picking up a Bishoujo
Chapter 673: 631 Create Soul
If it were destroyed to such an extent, naturally, survival would be impossible.
Indeed, this is merely common sense. In the world of demon hunters, there exist characters who can miraculously regenerate from just a drop of blood, let alone a body reduced to a tenth of its mass, and there are those like me, who can repeatedly rise again after both body and soul have been obliterated. However, Little Bowl does not possess such absurd and bizarre resilience; her resistance to harm is no stronger than that of an ordinary little girl.
So what about relying on external forces then, perhaps using some method to forcibly keep a severely damaged Little Bowl from dying? Such methods do exist, and I can do it myself. As long as I command Little Bowl with the Power of Word Spirit to "not die," even if her Spiritual Body is reduced to a tenth, it can still maintain its structure and existence.
But that's all it can do. While technically not dead, one cannot call it truly alive either. In such a state, Little Bowl cannot think, act, or engage in conversation. It's like a computer completely dismantled; even if the last memory chip is preserved, one wouldn't expect it to fulfill all the functions of the original computer, right?
"Gua Tianshi, since you've specifically brought up the uniqueness of Little Bowl as an uncontrolled Dream Avatar, surely there is a method leveraging this uniqueness to break through the situation? Teach me, please," I asked.
"There's certainly a method. The current mode of existence of that girl is the answer," Gua Tianshi replied, "Since her unique self elements can operate based on the Spiritual Body structure of the mother and daughter, replicating this framework is all it takes."
"Replicating the framework?" I asked.
"In other words, transplant her unique self elements to another soul to operate," Gua Tianshi patiently explained. "A heart cannot survive independently of the body, yet it can be transplanted to another body and continue beating. This analogy isn't hard to understand, is it?"
"I see, I understand... are you suggesting I find a living sacrifice to serve as Little Bowl's host?" I asked, "Regardless of whether Little Bowl would consent to that, or whether the people around me would support such a method… this approach is fundamentally riddled with contradictions, isn't it?"
"Contradictions—what do you mean?" Gua Tianshi seemed to prompt me to continue.
"Continuing with your analogy, if Little Bowl's independent self elements are transplanted into another person's soul, like transplanting a heart into another person, then who, exactly, survives?" I said, "It's not like A would be resurrected in B's body just by A's heart being transplanted into B.
"Although there are dubious stories where organ transplant patients inexplicably exhibit characteristics of the donor, even speaking languages they shouldn't know... but the surviving entity remains the patient who underwent the surgery, not the donor.
"Little Bowl's soul is certainly special, being quite possibly the only Divine Son of this era, yet she lacks ties to powerful concepts and does not possess the aggression needed to usurp other souls' identities. Following your suggested method, we would likely end up with a stranger who only has some similarities to Little Bowl in certain aspects, rather than Little Bowl herself."
Gua Tianshi nodded and said, "You're right, which is why you must use a soul devoid of subjectivity, pure and untainted—a blank soul."
"You mean... like the soul of an infant, or even a fetus?" My first reaction was that Zhu Shi would definitely disagree with this approach.
And Little Bowl, whose values align closely with Zhu Shi, might not be particularly concerned with notions of good or evil but is hardly likely to commit to possessing an infant or fetus in order to survive. Mazao, on the other hand, might make a judgment that defies modern moral standards, but I doubt she would force such an act on Little Bowl, considering it inherently evil.
"You've misunderstood, Zhuang Cheng," Gua Tianshi said, "Many people think of infants as blank slates, but that's only in comparison to children and adults. In reality, an infant's soul isn't pure blank; it contains a plethora of primal animal instincts. To be blunt, a newborn is a sheer animal. The same goes for a fetus.
"And as for that girl named Little Bowl, she merely resembles a human while essentially being different, constructed out of dreams as a Spiritual Body. Although she originates from human thought, her mental structure vastly differs from human Spirits. To put it in detail... no, saying it that way might confuse you...
"Let's use a somewhat popular and possibly familiar concept from western psychology. If a person's Spirit comprises animalistic Id, a mediating Ego, and the ideal and orderly Superego, then she entirely stands as an independent 'Superego' outside this structure.
"Combining that with a soul filled with primal animal instincts, like that of an infant, would only yield a quasi-new human consciousness, not hers. Surely you don't want to pursue such an outcome, right?"
"Of course not," I said. "So according to this statement, where should I find a 'pure, blank soul'? Since infants are ruled out due to their animal instincts, directly seeking an animal's soul would be even less appropriate. Am I supposed to find the soul of a plant?"
"That would only create more conflict with the girl's soul," Gua Tianshi chuckled lightly, "Let me be straightforward; no naturally born souls are purely blank and flawless. None can serve as the foundation for that girl's independent self-elements."
"No naturally born... are you saying—" I picked up on his implication.
Gua Tianshi calmly said, "Since all souls fail to meet the requirements, just create a blank soul yourself, wouldn't that solve the problem?"
This truly was an outlandish notion!
"Apologies, though I have little academic understanding of the field of souls, I do know a widely recognized fact; 'creating a soul'… isn't that truly within the Divine Domain?" I said, "And please, don't deflect with claims like 'we Impermanence are Gods,' as I'm not referring to gods like us."
In the world of common sense, science and technology have allowed the deduction of the formation principles of all substances in the world. Gold atoms, for instance, are hypothesized to be produced in supernova explosions, whereas iron elements are generally believed to be formed through nuclear fusion in stars. People believe that nothing in this world appears 'out of thin air,' and all substances can be traced back.
However, the soul is different. No one knows how a soul is created because its creation process cannot be observed by anyone. The soul is an 'entity from thin air.'
If what a "soul" symbolizes is the role the Great True Spirit plays in the world, then "creating a soul" undoubtedly falls within the realm of the Great True Spirit.
"Creating a soul... This indeed is a monumental challenge," Gua Tianshi reminisced, "Countless unprecedented geniuses have stepped forward throughout history, exploring the path of the soul, yearning to understand whence the soul originates and how it can be created. Once, I too ventured onto this path with disregard for the solemnity of the task, aiming to emulate the actions of genuine Gods and create new souls with my own hands.
"And throughout the long history of Luo Mountain, demon hunters' research into 'artificial souls' isn't entirely without achievements; a few rare geniuses have made results that appear somewhat like achievements. Alas, those results show varying degrees of immaturity, and their products embody explicit design philosophies, failing to match your need for a 'pure, blank soul.'"
"Since that is the case..." I said.
"Rest assured, I have no intention of deflecting, nor thrusting an impossible task upon you," Gua Tianshi said, "'Creating a soul' is an act intruding upon the Divine Domain, naturally only achievable by those inherently close to that realm. Specifically, I believe only one can accomplish your goal: yourself."
"Me?" I pointed to myself.
Gua Tianshi smiled slightly, "Creating souls—isn't that something you do often?"
This statement was like a lightning bolt, illuminating the dark recesses of my consciousness.
Yes, "creating souls" sounds like a whimsical idea, but I've done it countless times already. Each time I'm shattered into pieces during battle, entering a partial True Spirit state, I immediately recreate my own soul. For me, it's as effortless as breathing, to the extent that I hadn't linked it with the practically insurmountable "soul creation" concept in my mind.
My soul is my flame, and my flame, as a pure amalgamation of force, can have preset instructions added, murderous intent injected to amplify its power, and even various memories or miscellaneous personal items stored within it, yet I can also entirely refrain from doing so. When simply coalesced as pure force, my flame is undoubtedly an "empty soul."
"So... my correct approach is to mold a young girl-shaped avatar using my flame, then utilize it as a Spirit Summoning Container for the Dream Avatar... allowing Little Bowl to possess it?" I tentatively asked.
