CHAPTER 100: ANOTHER UNEXPECTED AWAKENING.

In preparation for the arrival of the monsters, Sunshine visited the weapons lab. Professor Chloe Brayan run the lab, working with a team with fifteen people. Sunshine had made a list of people that she knew from her past life were useful in the apocalypse.

Hades had located some of them and offered them employment, stealing them from their employers before the apocalypse started. Some had turned him down and others like Chloe agreed.

She was a popular weapons smith and trader in the apocalypse. Not just weapons but other gadgets too. She was seduced by some drawings that Owen shared with her. Drawings of weapons Sunshine had provided. The weapons themselves were all Chloe’s creations, not that she would ever know.

"I was told that you had a surprise for me." Sunshine approached the professor.

Professor Chloe turned around and smiled at Sunshine. "If it isn’t the wife of the wolf."

Sunshine’s lips curved to the right side. Professor Chloe only ever referred to her as the wife of the wolf. She had stopped bothering to get her to address her by her name. As long as the professor did her job, that was what mattered most.

"Do you like my outfit?" Professor Chloe asked her.

Sunshine looked at the white bodysuit with red stripes. Everyone in this lab was dressed the same.

"Cool." She gave the professor a thumbs up. "I have thirty minutes. Wow me."

Sunshine expected to be wowed because she had included otherworldly technology in this lab. The weapons that came out had to be high tech and extraordinary.

The professor led her to a weapons testing room, explaining her latest weapon. "I have succeeded in creating The Dragonoid. I combined phasium alloy, radiation dust and solar flare charges to create a weapon that fires flames that create the same reaction as a nuclear explosion. It is a nonothermal bomb."

They walked into a reinforced stone tunnel and rode motorcycles all the way to the other end of the mountain where the testing field was. It was a part of the base that only a handful of people knew about.

In this place, synthetic nonliving creatures that resembled mutant monsters Sunshine had encountered were recreated. The weapons were tested on them.

The weapon was placed in Sunshine’s hands, and she felt the weight. It had to be held in two hands because it was a little heavy but for her, it weighed nothing at all.

Professor Chloe was shocked when she saw Sunshine wielding switching to one arm.

"A dragon logo." Sunshine noted.

The dragonoid was white in color, with a single green dragon near the mouth. It looked cool, like a gun wielded by an alien species in a sci-fi movie.

Sunshine ran her right hand over it. It was cool to the touch, a little cold like plain steel. When she pulled the trigger, it growled like a dragon before erupting. It was even more powerful than the one the professor had created in her last life. Air bent where the flames passed, and it sizzled. The monster she aimed at burst into many pieces. The pieces started to melt as the fire continued to burn.

"It will liquefy completely in thirty seconds. The radiation will fade in an hour. I have not yet discovered a way to eliminate that side effect." Professor Chloe explained.

"Radiation in such times is common." Sunshine replied. "Human bodies will adjust to it soon. We also have anti-radiation pills, and in due time we will have superhumans with detoxifying abilities. Continue to research the weapon but for now, it should go into distribution. The watchers are already here, we cannot wait."

The Dragonoid was a good weapon. In addition to the null-fire guns, they had a pretty good chance at fighting back.

They returned to base and Sunshine met up with Nimo and Hades. Together, they drove off to Major Elio’s house as his wife had called Nimo in panic.

They found him sitting in a single chair, with dark sunglasses over his eyes, on his face.

"Is this a hungover?’ Nimo asked.

Major Elio waved his hand dismissively, "It is not a hungover and do not let my wife alarm you, I felt a little feverish earlier, but I am okay now."

"A little!!!" Tia screamed, " Don’t believe him, he is downplaying it,

"Vampires are not real Tia, do not be ridiculous." He let out an uncomfortable laugh. "I am fine."

Nimo moved closer to him. "Major what is happening? I heard from O’Toole that you missed training because you have a headache. I thought that you had gone to the medic bay."

"He had a wound on his big toe." Tia hissed.

"Wound? I thought you had a headache?" Nimo seemed very confused.

Sunshine sat up. A wound, headache, eyes that were in pain!! The Major was experiencing some abnormal symptoms. "Show it. This is a command."

"I was stabbed by a blade of grass; it is no big deal. If I am hiding anything, it is not the wound." He ripped off the shades. "It is my eyes madam president; something is wrong with my eyes."

With a narrowed gaze, Sunshine leaned a little closer to study them and so did her companions.

"They are a little red, but they seem very normal. What happened to them?" While asking, Hades moved his finger, prompting the major’s eyes to trail it.

Hades had been very quiet the entire time and he finally spoke up. "Nothing appears to be wrong with them. Why don’t you offer some more information."

"They feel weird, not like normal eyes. I don’t know how to describe it. I figured that it was because of the many sleepless nights I was having so I decided to take some painkillers and rest." He looked at his wife worriedly. "When I woke up, I-I could see things that are far away.

Nimo tilted her head back. "And so? That is no reason for you to act odd." Confusion pooled in her eyes mirroring Hades’ expression.

"I mean that I can see things really, really far away and very clearly. If I were a sniper, I would not need a scope." Major Elio tried to make them understand. "Casey, the marine who lives next door. He is doing yoga right now, but he is naked."

"Yish!" Tia shuddered.

Meanwhile, the rest were looking at the wall, focused on the area where the Major’s eyes were. They could not see through it. If he could, there was just one explanation.

"Superhuman!" They chorused together.

"Yep, super sight." Sunshine confirmed. "Congratulations major, you have graduated to become a superhuman."

Major Elio looked at Hades’s leg. "Nice leg." He smirked.

Hades scoffed. The Major had seen through the secret of his robot leg too. It seemed his eyes had some kind of ex-ray abilities.

Sunshine was wondering if the Major’s eyes would become a problem for her. Someone like him was very valuable on the superhuman market because he could see far and discover the secrets others were hiding.

All the secrets of the base would soon be open to this man, and she did not like that very much. She took a knife out of her tool belt and placed it down on the table.

"It looks like we need to have a talk." She placed her fingers on the handle of the knife and looked at Major Elio.
