Chapter 369: Talking Bluntly

None of them wanted to believe what Lucivar was saying, but there were too many anomalies around Master Tobias that it was hard to put him off the suspect list. And now that it had come to this, there was no other choice but to prepare for the worst to happen.

Mirel and Leandra had no choice but to suspect Master Tobias, too.

Having to dwell in the mystery for too long without directions made them reach the same conclusion.

It was Master Tobias, who was the one behind Bob’s disappearance and all the bad things the family was experiencing lately. Frankly, Leandra and Mirel were angry and frustrated at him. Not because he might be a bad person, but because he remained silent all this time.

During his visit, it should be clear that there was a cloud of suspicion above his head.

Master Tobias should’ve come to them and explained himself.

Perhaps, if he even tries to coax them one by one, they would gladly keep living in a world of lies.

But he didn’t make his move.

He let the family dictate what to think about him, and that’s a frustrating behavior.

Now, there was no other choice but to agree with Lucivar, who was the most logical and capable.

Lucivar was suspicious of him, and naturally, the others would do too.

As a result, tomorrow, the family would confront Master Tobias and demand clarity on this situation.

Needing to prepare mentally for tomorrow, Mirel excused himself and headed back to his room.

Sabrina also exited the bedroom to inform Nerissa and perhaps babysit Ravenna.

Just like Mirel, Nerissa would probably need time to think—and she wouldn’t be able to stay and look after Ravenna. She made the initiative to be the one to inform Nerissa and provide aid wherever needed her help.

Of course, she didn’t forget to ask permission from Lucivar before leaving.

Lucivar sat in silence, staring at the floor blankly for a good moment, before he inhaled deeply.

‘I should check on Ravenna. She’ll not be able to come, and I can’t leave her alone tomorrow.’ Lucivar rubbed his temples—contemplating how to deal with that. ‘I hope someone would volunteer to stay behind, but if there wasn’t, I can always leave behind Sabrina or a replica.’

As he was about to stand up and leave the bedroom, he noticed Leandra hadn’t left.

She was curled up inside the thick blanket, facing away.

“Aren’t you going back to your room?”

“…”

Leandra remained silent.

She doesn’t seem to have any intention to converse right now, which was understandable.

“I’m going to check on Ravenna. It’ll not take long.”

Even after waiting for half a minute, Leandra still remained silent.

Lucivar sighed and exited the room, closing the door behind him with a subtle click.

As soon as the door closed subtly, Leandra pivoted her body to lie on her back and stared at the ceiling with a gaze filled with emotions. She already accepted that Master Tobias was a suspect, but she wasn’t thinking about that.

“What should I do…?” She covered her face with her hands. “I can’t bring myself to say it.”

For a moment there, she cursed herself for not having the social skills to discuss important matters.

She failed to talk to Master Tobias about Delilah’s voice and Bob’s glove, and now, she couldn’t bring herself to talk to Lucivar about the rose sticker. It was frustrating to be hesitating all the time, but she really couldn’t.

Leandra grabbed the pillow beside her, covered her face with it, and screamed into it.

No time to play around.

She really needed to talk to Lucivar about this.

“Once he came back.” Leandra gazed at the ceiling with conviction and nodded. “I’ll talk then.”

Moments later.

Just as Sabrina told him earlier, Ravenna was still paralyzed, cursed, lying on the bed weakly.

She was undoubtedly conscious.

Even the moment he stepped into the room, her eyes turned towards him.

Inside, there was only Sabrina and Ravenna.

Nerissa already went back to her own room, wanting some personal space before the next day came.

Pausing by the door, he looked at Ravenna as if he was inspecting her up and down, then he approached, grabbing a chair and sitting beside the bed, right beside Ravenna. He leaned forward, placing his elbows on his thighs and intertwining his hands together.

“We’re going to confront Master Tobias,” Lucivar stated flatly, and then made eye contact with her. “I don’t know what happened to you… how you got into this condition—but you’re going to stay behind tomorrow. You’ll probably curse me, but we can’t have liability.”

“Sabrina would probably stay behind to watch over you.” He added with an irrefutable tone.

Ravenna would certainly argue if she could, but there’s no other choice.

For once, Lucivar didn’t know what would happen tomorrow.

He couldn’t predict how Master Tobias would react, so he can’t bring Ravenna along.

As impactful as her presence may be for Master Tobias, she simply couldn’t do anything in her state.

It’s not impossible that out of desperation, Master Tobias took a hostage.

And Ravenna would be the perfect target in that case.

“If you know who attacked you, look into my eyes.” Lucivar finally said, looking at Ravenna intently.

Hearing this, Ravenna averted her gaze.

Lucivar sighed as this was what he expected.

Somehow, she was ambushed and reduced to this state before she could react.

And it might as well be Master Tobias who attacked her since she was heading to the mansion.

It wasn’t that far stretched.

‘Master Tobias might be pretending to be weak. He could be strong, but I should be able to handle him.’

Considering that even the head of a powerful house is mostly at the five-star Chrysalis rank, nearing a breakthrough, Lucivar has the power—that of the head of a house. Only a handful of people possessed power even remotely close to his.

Lucivar should be fine when it comes down to a fight.

“If you don’t think it’s a good idea to confront Master Tobias like this, look into my eyes.”

Once again, Ravenna’s gaze remained lowered.

It was clear that she, too, had her own suspicion about Master Tobias, and she wanted to know.

“Right… I guess postponing would do nothing but harm. In the end, we need to confront him anyway.”

Lucivar nodded.

Having Ravenna’s input was really helpful as he was now more certain of his decision.

Even as he used the Mischief Panes to sense opportunities, he saw that the light was enveloping Ravenna.

Surely, her advice was the correct one.

‘Perhaps confronting Master Tobias would help me get over Delilah. I still need to figure out a way to bypass my bottleneck in my Divine Elevation.’ Lucivar reached for his pocket, but the phone was not in there as he had already placed it on the bedside table in his room. ‘I surely hope so.’

It was time to confront Master Tobias and see him for who he truly is for the first time in their lives.

“Get some rest,”

Lucivar gently—caressed her hair, feeling nostalgic for some reason, which Ravenna accepted gratefully. She closed her eyes, enjoying the brief affection from him, until he stood up and headed for the door again.

Before she could leave, Ravenna held his hand.

He cast one last look at her—smiling a little before he continued towards the door.

Pausing by the door for a second, he turned to Sabrina.

“Look after her until I come back.” He instructed.

“Yes, Master Lucivar.” Sabrina stood up and nodded. “I’ll take care of her; you don’t have to worry.”

Upon arriving back in his room, Lucivar found Leandra wasn’t asleep.

Despite the night being very late, she was still awake, and she seemed to be waiting for him.

“If you can’t sleep, go back to your room,” Lucivar said as he headed for the bathroom, not even caring whether there was something inside Leandra’s mind that kept her awake like this. “We’re going to be busy tomorrow, so you need to rest.”

Leandra braced herself.

She has already made a decision to talk to him tonight.

“Lucivar, can we—” Leandra uttered, but Lucivar already closed the bathroom door. “Talk…”

She clicked her tongue in displeasure.

But still, she was not going to back down.

“Once he finished, I’ll try again…” She muttered silently.

Earlier, Lucivar had killed Lily with his bare hands—his hands were smeared with blood.

It was a miracle that the others didn’t ask about the scent of blood he had on him, but perhaps the others knew but decided not to ask. Either way, he appreciated it as it would be a headache to hear their lecture when they knew he had killed someone on the academy grounds.

Lucivar walked out of the bathroom ten minutes later, a towel in hand.

He already changed into a neutral black shirt and was now drying his wet hair.

“We need to talk.” Leandra suddenly said.

Lucivar raised his gaze—and saw Leaendra was already sitting cross-legged on the bed, arms crossed under her chest. She was wearing a look that clearly showed that she wasn’t accepting anything other than a yes.

“Can’t we talk about it tomorrow? I’m tired.”

“No. We need to talk about it now.”

Hearing this, Lucivar sighed and lay down on the bed, burying his face in the pillow.

A sweet, fragrant smell filled his nose, but he reckoned that Sabrina must’ve cleaned it earlier that day.

Seeing that Lucivar wasn’t taking her seriously, Leandra bit her lower lip and cut to the chase.

“I want to talk about Delilah.” She said bluntly.

Almost instantly at the mention of that name, Lucivar’s body stiffened.

He was clearly not expecting Leandra to bring that up.

Nobody has ever brought up Delilah after her death; it was the one thing the family decided to ignore and never talk about. So naturally, it was a surprise when Leandra brought that topic up like this, right when they were about to confront Master Tobias.

Lucivar slowly sat up and met her gaze.

“What about her?”

“I know.”

A frown crept onto Lucivar’s face when he heard this.

He looked at Leandra, trying to read through her, but couldn’t.

In hindsight, she could mean a lot of things from that.

“Know what?”

“I know about the phone and your phone call, and it’s time we talked about that.”

Lucivar’s eyes widened completely.

It was one thing to bring up Delilah, and it was another to bring this up.

Nobody in the family should know about this, as he made sure to always do it when he was alone, or try to be alone when the time wasn’t right. He didn’t want the others to probe about it since he knew what it would look to the others.

“You can’t get out of this conversation. We’re going to talk about it, whether you like it or not.”
