CHAPTER 413: NECESSARY INFORMATION
Daniel and Andreas went to their room after renting it. Of course, before leaving, Daniel had a short talk with the receptionist and asked about the information he wanted.
"Why did you do that?" Andreas asked with awe and confusion the moment they entered the room. Sometimes he really couldn’t understand his friend.
In one moment, he acted completely normal, and in the next, he seemed like a madman. Nothing about him was predictable.
"Did you forget where we are? This is the city of criminals. The law of the jungle rules here. We had to show our strength, otherwise, in everyone’s eyes we would just look like prey," Daniel said lazily.
He could understand that what he did might have seemed reckless, but from the very moment they entered, he could feel countless eyes locked on them.
Especially that man he beat up—his eyes were full of greed. It was obvious he was looking for an excuse to hunt them.
"This place isn’t safe, and it’s better to stay cautious. Even though I like staying low-key, here it could backfire on us."
"I get it. But next time, if you want to pull something like that, at least warn me beforehand." Andreas sighed.
"Were you able to get anything out of that receptionist? Did he have any info about our target?"
"Unfortunately, no. But he said he’ll look into it for us and bring the results soon. For now, we’ll have to wait." Daniel answered while throwing himself onto the bed.
"So, what do we do in the meantime?"
"We’ll rest a bit, and if you want, we can stroll around the city."
Andreas nodded and lay down on the other bed. The two of them rested for a while, then, after waking up, went out to look around the city.
The city wasn’t that large, but not small either. Exploring the whole thing would take time. With a little asking around, they decided to only visit the most famous spots.
During their walk, they noticed that some people were watching them carefully—especially Daniel. It wasn’t hard to figure out that the news from the inn had already spread.
"I didn’t expect it to spread this fast," Andreas laughed.
"Neither did I," Daniel smirked. Still, before turning away, he gave a sharper look at a few men in the crowd who were eyeing them.
He could feel they seemed to be spying on them, which made him frown, though he ignored it and looked away.
"I think we’re being followed."
"What makes you think that?" Andreas frowned but made sure his behavior looked natural.
"There are a few men I’ve seen four times already. They’re trying to blend into the crowd." Daniel said.
"Well, considering what you pulled in the inn, I guess it’s not that surprising."
"I don’t sense hostility from them, so it shouldn’t be a problem." Daniel nodded, deciding not to pay them much attention.
Hours passed quietly. The men did nothing against them, and over time, their numbers decreased. Most seemed to have given up after getting whatever they wanted.
The two then ate dinner and returned to the inn, going straight to the receptionist.
"Did you find what we wanted?"
"That depends." The receptionist, after finishing with his previous customer, came over with a smile.
Daniel sighed and pulled out a thousand gold coins from his inventory. He already felt like if they stayed in this city for even a week, he might end up bankrupt.
"About the man whose picture you showed me—I asked around. From what I’ve learned, he seems to be an honored guest of the city lord’s son, and right now he’s staying at the Paradise Inn."
"A guest of the city lord’s son? Well, that’s going to be a pain." Daniel sighed. He expected things to be hard, but not this hard.
"Where’s this Paradise Inn?" Andreas didn’t lose hope and asked.
"Paradise Inn is the best and most luxurious inn in the city. It belongs to the young city lord himself. It’s heavily guarded, with many soldiers protecting it. One of its best rooms is being used by the man you’re after," the receptionist said after giving him a glance.
"So, what now?" Andreas gave a bitter smile and looked at Daniel with hope.
This guy always had ideas, and Andreas had never seen him hit a wall he couldn’t climb over. Now, too, he hoped Daniel would find a way.
"Do you know anything else about him? How he’s been living while he’s here?" Daniel didn’t answer Andreas but instead looked straight at the receptionist.
Surprisingly, the man didn’t respond, instead running his fingers over the gold coins he had taken. It was clear that more questions required more payment.
Daniel noticed, sighed, and pulled out another thousand gold coins, tossing them down. Yet the receptionist still didn’t answer.
’This bastard... he knows how valuable his info is to us.’ Daniel growled, then pulled out another five thousand gold coins and threw them down.
It was like tossing a bone to a dog.
The receptionist’s eyes gleamed at the sight of the coins, and a smile spread across his face. He quickly swept the gold into a corner under the counter before anyone else could notice.
"I don’t know much, but I’ve heard he’s heavily into women and drinking. Apparently, he spends most of his time with prostitutes."
"I’ve also heard he’s seduced a few married maids at the Paradise Inn too, but since he’s the young lord’s guest, no one dared say a word to him."
"What trash," Andreas growled. Whatever guilt he had felt about killing the man vanished completely.
Anyway, the fact that he was supposed to kill someone he didn’t know and had no personal grudge against had more or less given him a sense of guilt, but after hearing what kind of person the target was, all of that completely disappeared.
But Daniel’s eyes gleamed—it was obvious an idea had come to him.
"Do you know a place where I can buy face-changing pills?" He asked the receptionist with a grin.
