CHAPTER 114: CHAPTER 114: A FATHER’S DEEP LOVE
Seeing Lin Ying’s furrowed brow, Lin Qin continued, "I’m telling you, if we don’t let him use this money, he’ll feel uneasy. Otherwise, I wouldn’t bother being so exact with him. Anyway, Dad’s under my care—if he wants to spend money, he spends it; if he wants to save, he saves. He can do whatever he pleases, and if the money runs out, I’ll make up for it—you don’t need to worry.
In a while, I’ll take you to see the house. If you’re satisfied, I’ll pay for it directly. Later, you can make another trip to have the property transferred to your name."
As she spoke, Lin Qin glanced at Xu Dahai and lowered her voice, "Remember, it should be under your name; it has nothing to do with your husband’s family."
Lin Ying nodded repeatedly, "I understand... It’s just that this amount is too much. Dad worked hard all his life to save up this bit of money, spending it all of a sudden would make it hard for him to sleep at night!"
Lin Qin laughed, "Actually, it won’t! Now all he worries about is having money with nowhere to spend it. In a bit, tell brother-in-law that we’re going out. Once the summer break is over, I’ll be back to classes, and then I really won’t have the time."
Lin Ying was a bit surprised, "What classes?"
Lin Qin talked about her attending a literacy class, "The teacher at the senior university said after I finish this literacy class, I can even take college entrance exams!"
"Oh! Then I’ll have a scholarly sister, won’t I!" Lin Ying joked.
Lin Qin’s eyes gleamed, not responding, only shifting the topic back to buying houses.
As soon as Lin Yi brought the two kids back.
Xu Dahai immediately went to chat with Lin Yi, "Dad, Ah Ying and I are moving to a new house and would like to have you all over for some fun."
Upon hearing this, Lin Yi looked quite comforted, pondering, "Ah Qin’s pregnant, so she shouldn’t travel. Wenjun is busy with business, and the earliest he can be free would be ten in the morning. Leaving at ten to head over to you would mean reaching by noon, and then we’d have to rush back after lunch. If not, I’ll just take the two kids over."
Xu Dahai also understood how busy Chen Wenjun was and nodded in understanding, "That works too."
Shortly after, Chen Wenjun returned, and Xu Dahai mentioned the moving plan again, inviting him over.
Chen Wenjun did not decline on the spot, "We’ll see. Dad can take the kids over first. I’ll check the timing here, and if it’s early, I’ll join."
Xu Dahai nodded enthusiastically.
The whole family gathered for a meal and rested for a bit.
Lin Qin went to the room to bring out money and the account book for Xu Dahai and Lin Ying to see, "This is the money from the kids catching snails, gathering duck eggs, and selling them during this time. I’ve recorded the quantities and amounts here, totaling over three hundred and ninety-eight. Just shy of four hundred, so I rounded it up for them to four hundred. This amount is a bit much, so I wouldn’t dare give it directly to them; you guys can hold onto it for them."
Xu Dahai and Lin Ying were shocked and leapt up from their seats.
They refused to accept the money no matter what.
Lin Ying unhappily said, "We still owe you money! Consider this repayment of our debt, so take it and don’t embarrass me!"
Lin Qin was speechless, "Sis, this is money the kids earned. Ah Jian and Ah Kang didn’t borrow money from me, so why should I withhold their money? You guys don’t have the right either. I didn’t give them the money directly because I was worried they’d lose it, not so you could pocket it!"
"What’s the difference? They’re still kids. What kid can handle four hundred yuan?" Lin Ying shook her head again and again.
Lin Qin didn’t argue with her but stated seriously, "Anyway, this money is for you to keep for the kids; how they use it should be up to them. I’m not rushing you to pay back the money you owe; just take your time."
Lin Ying couldn’t argue with Lin Qin, and sensing she might be in the wrong, reluctantly accepted the money.
In the afternoon, the sisters went together to look at the house on Zhongshan Road.
After a thorough look, Lin Ying was quite satisfied. Lin Qin bargained with the seller and finally closed the deal for two small rundown houses at eight thousand six.
They paid a deposit first, with the remaining amount to be settled after the transfer is complete.
Lin Ying didn’t bring any documents, so they had to head back once, and the house had to be temporarily registered under Lin Qin’s name.
By the time the sisters finished their work, it was already evening. Lin Qin invited Lin Ying out to a restaurant and specifically ordered a table of dishes at Guoxing Restaurant.
Zheng Guoxing was evidently delighted to see Lin Qin come for a meal, "Sister-in-law rarely comes to dine here, order whatever you like, this meal is on me today."
Lin Qin shook her head repeatedly, "No, I can’t take advantage of you. I want shrimp cakes, oyster omelet, a plate of your signature soy sauce fish, and a plate of greens, two servings of rice, and two bottles of soda."
"Alright! Coming right up!" Zheng Guoxing turned and headed to the kitchen to cook.
Seeing Lin Qin’s wide network of connections, Lin Ying felt happy for her.
The sisters only returned home after eating, and by then, it was almost dark.
Lin Yi, knowing the deal was done, was more joyful than anyone else, boasting to Xu Dahai, "Dahai, this house is a dowry gift from me to Ah Ying. It has nothing to do with your Xu family, and this house can only be left to my two grandkids."
"Yes, yes, yes... Dad, your belongings are for you to arrange as you wish. I won’t interfere," Xu Dahai assured loudly, patting his chest.
Lin Yi finally felt satisfied and returned to his room.
Once Lin Yi left, Xu Dahai sighed to Lin Ying, "We’re both parents, but why are my parents so different from yours? I’m really envious of you now!"
Lin Ying loved hearing this and proudly praised Lin Yi and Lin Qin.
The next morning, the couple took their two sons back to the village.
The housewarming party was set for three days later, with Lin Yi planning to come over then.
Before leaving, Lin Yi mulled it over with Xu Dahai, "I’ll come over bright and early that day and bring some seafood to spice up the feast for you."
Xu Dahai quickly refused, "Dad, you’ve already spent enough on us. You can’t spend more of your money!"
"Nah, this is my decision, just letting you know. Hurry and get going! Also, Ah Qin said that money is for the kids. You can’t just use it recklessly!"
After reminding them, Lin Yi looked back fondly at his two grandsons, his expression turning tender, "Ah Jian, Ah Kang, study hard when you get back. Do well on your finals, and I’ll have your mom bring you over again so grandpa can help you earn more money!"
"Okay!" the two kids replied in unison.
Soon, it was the day of Xu Dahai’s housewarming banquet. At four in the morning, Lin Yi and Chen Wenjun set off for South Port, loading all the pre-ordered seafood onto the boat.
Upon returning to South Port, Chen Wenjun had already arranged for two tricycles to take Lin Yi, the two kids, and the seafood to the bus station.
The bus swayed for two hours before reaching Xu Family Village.
The driver helped offload the seafood, and Lin Ying, who had come early with her two sons, quickly called people from the village to help upon seeing so many boxes of seafood.
The village lacked nothing but excitement, and a group of village women ran out upon hearing the news, pairs of curious eyes falling on Lin Yi and the two children.
