Chapter 154: Club Recruitment
CHAPTER 154: CHAPTER 154: CLUB RECRUITMENT
Bai Junjun teased, "If you’re that envious, you can also find a partner at school; didn’t Sister Qin just say that university is the perfect time for learning and dating."
Lin Qin was startled and hurried to make a correction, "That’s true in a sense, but the president said, any relationship not intended for marriage is just fooling around. Unless you can find someone with similar interests who’ll be in the same place in the future, breaking up after graduation would be so painful!"
"That’s true." Everyone nodded repeatedly, agreeing with Lin Qin’s point.
Seeing that they listened, Lin Qin didn’t say more.
She went to the counselor to get her day school application, picked up a class schedule, and left.
Just as she left, a few senior sisters came to dorm room 301.
"Check out the club activities, newbies. You can meet many senior students and new classmates..."
A bunch of young girls were attracted to the clubs and started chattering excitedly.
One of the senior sisters counted and frowned, "Why is there one less person in your dorm?"
By then, it was dark, and usually, everyone would be in the dorm unless something special came up.
Ge Qiuyue quickly explained, "That classmate is local, already married with a child, and has applied for day school, which the counselor approved."
Hearing this, the senior sister instantly lost interest in Lin Qin, "I see! Then we’ll get going."
After distributing club flyers, they gathered under the girls’ dormitory.
Wang Xinyuan asked, "Are the flyers all distributed to the new Chinese language students? We’re from the Ancient Poetry Club, and I’m sure they’ll be interested in joining."
Li Xiaomei nodded, blushing and not daring to look Wang Xinyuan in the eye, "Wang, did the boys’ dorms get the flyers too?"
Wang Xinyuan smiled wryly, "This year’s male students in the Chinese language major are only a third of the female students. I’ve advertised as much as possible, but they don’t seem too interested in ancient poetry. Quite a few are looking at sports clubs instead."
Zhuang Fangfang, next to Li Xiaomei, was extremely disappointed, "President, you need to step it up again. The club needs gender balance; it’s not suitable if all the heavy work is done by the girls."
"Alright, I’ll try my best, and you do the same. Let’s aim to attract those new students with great looks and temperament to our club, so we can perform well at the National Day and school celebrations, which can boost our scores."
After saying this, Wang Xinyuan parted ways with Li Xiaomei and the others.
Zhuang Fangfang turned back to see Li Xiaomei looking a bit upset, puzzled, "What’s wrong?"
Li Xiaomei bit her lower lip and shook her head, hesitated for a long time, and finally asked the question on her mind, "Why do you think the president is recruiting so many good-looking freshmen?"
"It’s obviously for the credits! What else?" Zhuang Fangfang answered without thinking.
Li Xiaomei felt heavy-hearted, "What if our club gets full of beautiful girls, will the president forget about us?"
Zhuang Fangfang was a tad confused, "No... no, why worry about this? Don’t tell me you like the president?"
Under Zhuang Fangfang’s incredulous gaze, Li Xiaomei blushed and did not deny it.
Back in their first year, Li Xiaomei joined the club and had a crush on Wang Xinyuan; unfortunately, everyone was new and Wang was single-minded about work, so she didn’t express her feelings. Now that Wang Xinyuan is president, she worries she’ll miss her chance if she doesn’t express herself.
Zhuang Fangfang came to her senses, slapping Li Xiaomei’s shoulder, "Girl! If you like him, just confess. Maybe he likes you too. I’ve noticed he takes extra care of you; you must be special to him."
Li Xiaomei thought the same, and with Zhuang Fangfang’s encouragement, she made up her mind.
The school year starts with military training as a tradition.
Military training is a good time to discuss which clubs to join.
Lin Qin cycled to school early in the morning. Before anyone else had breakfast, she had already warmed up and brought a big watermelon to the dormitory.
Everyone greeted her excitedly.
Lin Qin smiled, "Look at how excited you all are, are you that eager for military training?"
Bai Junjun immediately shook her head in denial, "It’s not the military training we’re eager for; it’s the club activities. Sister Qin, last night the senior from the Ancient Poetry Club came to our dorm to advertise. I went out to inquire, and the president of the Ancient Poetry Club is Wang Xinyuan, the senior who welcomed freshmen on registration day.
He seems like a gentle and decent guy, and we all want to join. Do you want to sign up with us?"
Lin Qin took the flyer, carefully looked it over, and pondered, "There should be plenty of clubs at school, why not check more of them out? What if there’s something more fun? Besides, with so many applying, they probably conduct interviews to select candidates. Are you sure you can all get in?"
It was as if a cold shower was poured over them, leaving everyone speechless.
Du Juanhua was anxious, "Sister Qin, I really want to join the Ancient Poetry Club. Do... do I need to do anything?"
Lin Qin smiled wryly, "I don’t stay on campus, and I get my news from you guys. How would I know what to do? But self-improvement and seeking advice from a current member of the Ancient Poetry Club would surely help."
Du Juanhua seemed a bit disappointed, while the others weren’t as passionate.
Bai Junjun said, "I’ll keep looking around. If I don’t join the Ancient Poetry Club, I’ll just play around in another club. What about you, Zhou Xue?"
Zhou Xue was fully prepared for today’s military training, her expression serious, and she stood with a straight back smiling, "I’m going to the Taekwondo Club."
Everyone stared wide-eyed in surprise before showing understanding.
Lin Qin asked Ge Qiuyue, "What about you, Sister Ge?"
Ge Qiuyue shook her head without hesitation, "I’m not going to join in the fun, maybe I’ll find a quieter club if necessary."
If not for the fact that club participation grants credits, she wouldn’t want to waste time on it at all.
Lin Qin completely understood her mindset, as their situations were essentially the same.
In their conversation, everyone finished tidying up. Lin Qin left the watermelon in a bucket of water placed in a shady spot, waiting for their return from military training to quench their thirst.
The girls, full of anticipation, chatted away as they headed to the field. Half an hour later, their smiles faded; an hour later, they looked grim, and by midday, they were all wilted like frost-covered eggplants, not even interested in eating.
At this point, Ge Qiuyue played the big sister role, dragged everyone to the cafeteria, and forced them to eat lunch.
Bai Junjun was near tears as she glanced at the perky Zhou Xue beside her, then slumped onto the table, "Xiao Xue, are you even human? I’m dead tired, but you’re totally fine?"
Lin Qin laughed, "She’s a military spouse; she’s had some training. Not everyone is like you!"
Among the six in their dorm, Bai Junjun seemed to come from the best background, clearly a pampered young lady. Zhou Xue’s situation also seemed superior, being a child of high-ranking military officials with high expectations from her family, especially competitive.
