Chapter 65: Revenge
CHAPTER 65: CHAPTER 65: REVENGE
He was sure that in a few days Chen Wenjun would definitely come to him to make peace. In the past, they often had conflicts, and every time it was Chen Wenjun who would come to him and apologize first. Even if Chen Wenjun did not come to him, he had ways to make Chen Wenjun compromise!
As Lin Yi saw Zheng Aqiang leave, he immediately broke into curses, "What a scoundrel! Comes to the door to borrow money, Wenjun, how can you be friends with that kind of person?"
He now suspected that Chen Wenjun had a problem recognizing people.
Chen Wenjun’s face was tense as he entered the cabin and explained carefully to Lin Yi, "His name is Zheng Aqiang. We’ve grown up together since childhood. He wasn’t like this before, but gradually he learned bad behaviors from others, and coupled with laziness, he liked to take advantage, then later got addicted to gambling.
Ever since he started gambling, I rarely spent time with him because I had to care for Ping’an. After borrowing money from me a few times, I stopped lending him money. That scum was ruthless, once I refused to lend him money, he would rob me. That day in the alley, it wasn’t Liu Yongguo who knocked me unconscious, it was him."
Lin Yi looked shocked, "How do you know this?"
If this was true, then hadn’t they wrongly accused Liu Yongguo? And even extorted fifty yuan from the Liu family!
Chen Wenjun mumbled a defense, "I also suspected afterward and secretly investigated to find out."
Lin Yi could accept this explanation, and did not pursue further, but angrily cursed, "That’s truly shameless, he hit you and robbed your money, and now comes grinning to the door asking for money. I’m telling you, be careful with this kind of rogue! Who knows what tricks he might pull!"
Chen Ping’an saw Chen Wenjun no longer associating with Zheng Aqiang, and there was a smile on his face as he plucked up his courage to report, "Dad, every time after you fought with that bad person, he would secretly come to me and threaten me. He said if I didn’t persuade Dad to reconcile with him, he would kill me and throw me into the water while Dad wasn’t home.
I don’t like that bad person, he forced me to say those things!"
Remembering those past experiences, Chen Ping’an shuddered all over.
Chen Wenjun and his wife, having lived two lifetimes, learned of this for the first time, and their faces changed instantly.
Lin Yi, already feeling pity, embraced Chen Ping’an, "Don’t be afraid, from now on Grandpa will be with you, that bad person surely won’t threaten you again!"
Lin Qin saw Chen Wenjun’s face full of anger, and hurriedly patted his shoulder, speaking with seriousness, "It seems Zheng Aqiang is even more shameless than we thought, he must be taught a lesson!"
Even threatening children, he really has no moral bottom line.
Lin Yi quickly said, "Hurry and hide any valuables on the boat, I just saw him constantly looking at the cabin with ill intentions!"
Lin Qin nodded, "We’re living at Nanyu at night now, all previous things are hidden on the mountain, once the door is closed, there’s surely security."
Only then did Lin Yi feel at ease.
In the following two days, Lin Qin still went to the construction site to cook in the mornings, and Chen Wenjun went out early to sell fish, with both returning at noon to keep busy.
Zheng Aqiang waited for two days, seeing that Chen Wenjun didn’t soften, he found himself penniless, wanting to repeat his old tricks, he threatened Chen Ping’an to make Chen Wenjun back down, but discovered Chen Ping’an was always by Lin Yi’s side without leaving.
This infuriated him.
Having staked out the place for several days without opportunity, he decided firmly to steal!
It happened that Lin Yi would take the two children to the river to hunt for river snails around seven or eight in the morning, estimating that they would be away from the fishing boat for over an hour, a perfect time to strike.
He seized the moment, using prepared tools to unlock the cabin door lock, taking less than five minutes.
The three hard-at-work grandparents and grandchildren didn’t notice.
Zheng Aqiang’s lips curled into a smug smile, closing the cabin door, he went straight to the aft cabin.
A fishing boat layout is all the same, Zheng Aqiang entered as if returning home, navigating skillfully, avoiding obstacles, arriving at the destination quickly.
There are only so many things in the aft cabin, the valuables surely placed in a locked compartment.
Just one.
Zheng Aqiang quickly unlocked it, eagerly searching inside, ending up finding no valuables at all. Unwilling to give up, he intended to search elsewhere but happened to hear noise from the deck.
He jumped in fright, discreetly poking his head out the window, finding Lin Yi and the two children couldn’t see him, he carefully climbed out the window, sneaked to the back of the five-pavilion boat, leapt into the shallow water, and quickly left.
The three boarded the boat to find the lock had been tampered with, and panicked, each grabbing a stick, they summoned courage to open the cabin, looked inside carefully, and found no one!
They gritted their teeth and headed for the aft cabin, waving their sticks randomly as they walked, until they found the compartment had been broken into, yet saw no shadow of the thief, causing them to jump on the spot in anger.
Chen Wenjun and his wife had just returned.
Liu Yaya fearfully threw herself into Lin Qin’s arms, "Mom, we’ve been robbed!"
Lin Qin’s face changed.
Under the two children’s narration, they could roughly guess who did it.
Chen Wenjun ground his teeth in fury, old hatred combined with new hatred, he didn’t want to endure it anymore, "I’m going to get something, from now on you all move to Nanyu, don’t announce it, don’t stay on the fishing boat."
Zheng Aqiang would not stop until achieving his goal. This time, having failed, he would certainly return. Chen Wenjun intended to set up the fishing boat properly to give Zheng Aqiang a lifelong lesson!
While angry, Lin Yi also worried that Zheng Aqiang might return. If it came down to it, he might not be able to win, so he followed Chen Wenjun’s instructions.
In the days following, the couple kept strict vigilance, while Zheng Aqiang seemed to vanish, not showing up again.
Chen Wenjun also sped up his work, taking about ten days to finish setting up the traps on the fishing boat.
Now the traps were set, the cabin couldn’t be opened again.
They simply used the fishing boat as transport.
Half a month later, Zheng Aqiang felt the coast was clear, and was short-handed, so he targeted Chen Wenjun again.
This time he came again around seven in the morning.
Seeing the fishing boat docked by the creek, the cabin door locked, Lin Yi and the two children not nearby, Zheng Aqiang delightedly boarded the five-pavilion boat, as usual, opened the lock, crawled inside, when suddenly a heartrending scream came from within the cabin.
Zheng Aqiang stumbled down from the fishing boat, clutching a bloody eye, blood streaming all the way.
When Chen Wenjun and Lin Qin returned, they saw congealed bloodstains on the deck, exchanging glances.
Chen Wenjun held Lin Qin back, "You wait outside, I’m going in to have a look."
The traps were laid by him and only he could avoid them.
Outside, Lin Qin impatiently awaited for a while, seeing Chen Wenjun come out safely, relieved, "How is it?"
Chen Wenjun showed little extra reaction, "The first trap was triggered, others untouched, looks like he fell right into the trap, but who knows how bad the injury is."
The traps he laid were akin to fishing, once a fish volunteered itself, several small mechanisms would be triggered. If no one entered or discovered them in advance, they could be avoided.
Experienced fishermen could detect them, but those like Zheng Aqiang who muddled through life were almost certain to fall victim.
