CHAPTER 96: CHAPTER 96: LIN YING’S ASSERTIVENESS

The four children received red packets and were overjoyed. With Yaya as the middleman, Xu Jian and Xu Kang quickly started playing with Ping’an.

Lin Qin occasionally glanced out the window, feeling at ease only when she saw the kids playing well.

Seeing her like this, Lin Ying teased, "It’s your home, and you’re worried about the kids being bullied?"

Lin Qin withdrew her gaze and refilled her tea. "Last semester, when the two kids went to Anshan Society Primary School, they got bullied. I took them to settle the issue, but the class teacher turned the tables on us. I got so angry that I fought with that teacher, beating them into a pig’s head. The school principal and teachers weren’t friendly to us either.

Later, the school called the police. We had to use connections to bring in officials from the education bureau to get justice for the kids."

Lin Ying’s face changed dramatically, "That serious! And what happened after? Are they still going to school now?"

When something this big happens, the school’s teachers and students would definitely treat them differently.

Lin Qin nodded, "Yes, they’re still attending school but transferred to the city experimental school. The teachers there are of higher quality; on the first day, they asked the classmates to take care of them. I observed for a semester, and the kids adapted well and became particularly cheerful."

Speaking of the city experimental school, Lin Qin couldn’t keep the smile off her face.

Lin Ying let out a sigh of relief, "A blessing in disguise, I suppose."

She then lowered her voice and asked, "Have you changed Yaya’s name? Do those over there know?"

Lin Qin laughed, "I’ve even published a declaration cutting ties. How can they interfere in my daughter’s affairs? Besides, Liu Yongming is too busy with his own troubles; how would he care if my daughter changes her surname?"

Lin Ying felt completely relieved, turned to look at Lin Yi, and smiled, "Dad! I’m relieved that you’re living with my little sister now. If anything comes up, remember to call my village. Look at all the things that have happened in the past half year, and I knew nothing! If I had known, I definitely would have come to help."

Lin Yi glanced at Xu Dahai and lowered his gaze, "Forget it. Your husband’s family lives far away, your work at home depends on you, and you have two kids to take care of. If you visit too often, your mother-in-law might complain."

Xu Dahai quickly poured tea for Lin Yi, "No, no. Ah Ying and I have already secured a plot from the team leader. We’re planning to start building after the New Year so we can move into a new house this year. Once we have the new house, Ah Ying will be her own boss. She can return to her parental home as often as she likes, for as long as she wants."

Lin Yi raised his eyes in shock and looked at Lin Ying, "What’s going on?"

Xu Dahai’s parents are both alive, and he has an older and a younger brother. He is the neglected middle child. The eldest went to the military early and, upon returning, had a decent job. The Xu parents thought the eldest son brought them prestige and tried to please the eldest daughter-in-law, even building them a house and letting them move out.

But Xu Dahai didn’t receive such treatment. They had no money and were left to squeeze into the old house with the parents and younger brother’s family.

In Lin Yi’s impression, Xu Dahai’s mother wasn’t an easy person to get along with. She was accustomed to being domineering, controlling everything, and didn’t allow them to save private money. So how did Xu Dahai and Lin Ying manage to have spare money to build a house?

Lin Ying glared at Xu Dahai furiously, "His younger brother’s couple wanted a son, but the third child was still a daughter. Now they have to pay a fine, but when it came to his brother’s kids, their parents gave money. So why is there money for the overbirth fine but not to build us a house?

I’ve had enough and quarreled with their parents before winter. I insisted that they must give money for us to build a house, or I’d divorce, and they could do whatever they wanted!"

Xu Dahai looked embarrassed and tried to please her, "Don’t be angry. Didn’t my parents give us the money?"

Lin Ying’s voice suddenly rose several octaves, "Did they willingly give it? I made a fuss! If they hadn’t given it, I would have gone around the village shouting and divorced you. Your parents care about their reputation, and your eldest brother and sister-in-law fear gossip. That’s why they compromised! Don’t act like they care about you that much!

You’ve been their workhorse long enough, Xu Dahai, I’m telling you. The money for building the house is earned by us, and I take it without any guilt! I’m not going to support your parents anymore; they can live with whichever son they favor. They better not come and suck my blood again!"

In her fury, even Lin Yi couldn’t calm Lin Ying down.

Lin Yi helplessly hurried Xu Dahai to move their luggage into the guest room.

"There are two rooms on the first floor, with beds at least 1.8 meters. You take one room, Zhu Fugen’s couple will take the other. Just right."

Zhu Fugen and Alan quickly followed Lin Yi with their luggage.

The door opened to reveal clean walls and floors. The large bed had only a mat on it, which was quite tidy though there was nothing else.

Chen Wenjun opened the closet, took out all the quilts and pillows, and made the bed in a few moves.

Then went to make the bed in the other room.

Lin Qin and Lin Ying went in to pack things, while the men retreated to the living room to continue brewing tea.

Lin Qin closed the door behind them, pulled Lin Ying to sit and talk, "Sister, I just noticed brother-in-law’s face changed. Even if you’re angry, give him some face in front of so many people."

Lin Ying thought, her chest heaving with rage, grinding her teeth, "Didn’t I give him enough face? Over the years, to fulfill his role as a filial son, I’ve endured so many grievances under that old hag! It’s lucky I gave birth to two sons. If I had two daughters, that old hag would have easily tortured me to death!

Now, Ah Jian is already ten, but he still shares a room with Ah Kang and their cousin. Is that reasonable?"

Lin Qin’s expression changed abruptly, "What’s going on? Didn’t you say your mother-in-law doted on her youngest son? Didn’t she give the third family an extra room?"

Lin Ying sneered, "If my sister-in-law had given birth to a son, there would definitely be a room. Unfortunately, it’s a daughter that even the third couple dislikes. My mother-in-law doesn’t like them either. Those poor girls are really pitiful.

I just don’t get it. It’s a third child born secretly and still another girl, and they have to pay a big fine. I said they should give the child to someone to raise, so they wouldn’t have to pay the money, and the kid wouldn’t have to face long looks at home.

But they turned it around and accused me of having bad intentions, claiming I wanted to sell their daughter. Isn’t that infuriating! My mother-in-law also blamed me, saying I lacked tact and didn’t know how to speak.

I exploded right then, making a huge scene without any concern."

Thinking of that day’s scene, Lin Ying felt quite pleased.

Lin Qin felt comforted too but still worried, "Sister, will brother-in-law agree to your making such a fuss?"

Lin Ying curled her lips, "I had already made up my mind to get a divorce unless they gave me an explanation. I even dug up the divorce certificate. Without waiting for my brother-in-law to say anything, I dragged him to divorce by force."
