Chapter 106: The Stingy Grandma Pays a Visit
CHAPTER 106: CHAPTER 106: THE STINGY GRANDMA PAYS A VISIT
The whole family immediately became vigilant. These days, life isn’t easy for anyone, and there’s always someone thick-skinned enough to come by and mooch off meals if they catch a whiff of good food.
Liu Cuilan quickly instructed Su Xiaoxiao and Xu Zhaodi, "Quickly find a place to hide the fish and shrimp, Jianwen, you go open the door."
Everyone worked together, and once Su Jianwen confirmed everything was hidden, he hurried to open the door.
"Who is it?"
He raised his voice and shouted outside, and soon a familiar voice responded, "It’s me, hurry and open the door."
Su Jianwen: "Who are you?"
Wang Chunhua’s forehead veins throbbed; this brat couldn’t even recognize his own grandmother’s voice.
Thinking of her purpose for coming, she suppressed her anger and tried to soften her tone, "I’m your grandmother."
Su Jianwen raised an eyebrow, leisurely opening the courtyard door a crack, and leaned his face against the gap to look outside, "What’s up?"
In fact, he recognized who it was when she first spoke but deliberately kept her hanging.
After all, he remembered clearly how this grandmother had treated their family in the past.
When Father Su passed away, he and his fifth sibling were young, and their mother had to work every day, so she humbly asked the grandmother for help to babysit for a couple of days.
Unexpectedly, the grandmother flatly refused, claiming her health was poor and she couldn’t help.
Yet when something happened at Second Aunt’s house, she quickly trotted over to take care of Su Tieniu.
And over the years, the grandmother was obviously biased; whenever they had a dispute with Su Tieniu, it was always their fault, and she’d scold or beat them.
It was as if only Su Tieniu was her real grandson.
Seeing Su Jianwen only open the door a crack without showing any intention of letting them in, Wang Chunhua’s face immediately darkened.
It must be that Liu Cuilan stirring things up, otherwise, why would her own grandson treat her this way?
But for her purpose to be achieved today, she held back her anger and tried to show a loving smile to Su Jianwen, "Jianwu, right? Are your mom and third sister home? I have something to discuss with them."
Su Jianwen snorted, "Grandma, I’m the fourth, Jianwen."
Sure enough, she didn’t care about them enough to remember even their names correctly.
Wang Chunhua awkwardly touched her nose, then showed him the things she brought, "Jianwen, see, I’ve brought you some treats. Open the door and let grandma in, will you?"
Su Jianwen glanced at those pitiful pieces of egg cake in her hand, rolled his eyes, and slammed the gate shut.
Wang Chunhua was about to explode with anger; that brat dared to treat her like this, and she was their real grandmother.
Su Jianwen dashed back inside, and Liu Cuilan looked behind him in confusion, "Jianwen, who was it?"
Hearing her voice, Su Jianwen puffed out his cheeks and said, "Who else could it be, that biased old lady."
Liu Cuilan frowned, "You shouldn’t say that; she’s still your grandmother. Go let them in quickly."
After being lectured by his mother, Su Jianwen begrudgingly went to open the door.
Wang Chunhua immediately dragged Su Tieniu from the door crack and squeezed inside, glaring at Su Jianwen as she entered the house.
Once inside, she pulled a long face, "Locking your real grandmother outside — is this the good child you’ve educated?"
Su Jianwen muttered quietly, "Now you remember we’re your real grandchildren?"
"Brat, what did you say?"
Wang Chunhua’s face turned even darker; she wasn’t deaf enough to miss what he said.
She promptly grabbed Su Jianwen’s arm, "I think I need to teach you a lesson; you naughty little rascal!"
As she raised her hand to slap, Liu Cuilan quickly grabbed her wrist before her hand could reach him.
Since they had already fallen out long ago, Liu Cuilan couldn’t be bothered to continue pretending in front of the grandmother.
"Mom, Jianwen is my son. If he is to be disciplined, it should be done by me."
The implicit meaning being, it wasn’t her place to interfere.
"Oh, so now you all want to turn the tables, is it?"
She angrily slapped the table, accidentally knocking over a bowl of piping hot water, and screamed in pain, "Ahhh, I’m scalded! Cold water, cold water, quick..."
Before she finished speaking, there was a splash, and a basin of cold water drenched her completely.
"Bleh bleh bleh... You silly child, I said to rinse my hand, where did you splash it?"
She looked up to find the culprit was Su Xiaoxiao, and her anger shot up again.
"Oh dear, sorry, Grandma. If only you had been clearer earlier, I wouldn’t have misunderstood."
Su Xiaoxiao apologized nonchalantly and quickly handed over a towel, "Oh dear, I’m really sorry, Grandma. Please dry yourself off so you don’t catch a cold."
Wang Chunhua glared at her; this brat’s entire family was nothing like the more likable second family.
She quickly wiped her face with the towel, only to smell an odd odor, and curiously glanced at the ragged towel in her hand.
She couldn’t help but wrinkle her nose, "What’s that smell on this towel?"
Su Xiaoxiao feigned concern as she glanced at it and quickly pretended to be alarmed, "Grandma, I’m sorry, in a rush, I grabbed the wrong one. This is the family’s foot towel."
Their family was poor, and the foot towel was essentially shared among them all, so one can imagine the odor over time.
Especially the fourth and fifth siblings, who always just dampened their feet lightly and went through the motions.
Wang Chunhua’s face turned green at those words.
Su Xiaoxiao quickly offered another towel, "Grandma, really sorry, please use this one."
At this point, Wang Chunhua only felt her face was covered in the stench of feet and disgustedly tossed the towel onto the floor, wiping her face with her sleeve instead.
She dared not use the towel this brat offered, who knows what it would be used for next.
She angrily sat down on a stool and came straight to the point, "Eldest daughter-in-law, I heard Xiaoxiao is working at the city department store?"
"Yes, Grandma, if you ever need anything and want me to buy it for you, just give me the money according to market rates, and I won’t charge a service fee."
Su Xiaoxiao promptly chimed in with a smile; given Wang Chunhua’s stingy nature, she feared if she didn’t clarify, she’d be asked to buy things without being paid.
This brat really knows how to count with her own grandmother.
Wang Chunhua’s forehead twitched, but she swallowed her anger again, remembering her purpose for coming.
As she was about to discuss the serious matter, Su Tieniu suddenly sniffed and yelled, "Grandma, I want meat, there’s meat, it smells so good."
Before anyone could react, the brat turned and ran straight to the small kitchen outside.
Soon there was a clatter coming from the kitchen.
Liu Cuilan’s face changed, and she hurried to chase after him. Su Xiaoxiao was even quicker, darting into the kitchen in one step and grabbing the brat by the back of the neck.
