CHAPTER 248: CHAPTER 248: SONG WEIDONG INVITES TO LUNCH
"Director Liu, I can’t be too sure without seeing the clothes, but as long as the colors aren’t too flashy, you can generally make the clothes more fashionable by adding accessories and changing combinations."
Director Liu’s eyes lit up upon hearing this. This trip was definitely worth it.
"Great, I’ll tell your Director Song later, and have you temporarily transferred to our Qingshan City headquarters for a few days to provide some guidance."
"Director Liu, you’re too kind. It’s not guidance, at most I can offer some personal suggestions."
"Comrade Xiao Su, you’re too modest. It’s a pity your Director Song won’t let you go, otherwise, I’d definitely bring you to Qingshan City."
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Director Liu happily went to discuss the temporary transfer with Director Song.
As soon as he left, a group of people gathered around, all looking at Su Xiaoxiao with eyes full of enthusiasm.
"Comrade Su, you’re amazing, you even know Director Song from the neighboring city’s headquarters."
"Comrade Su, I’m from the cosmetics counter, feel free to reach out if you ever need anything."
"Comrade Su, we came in together; during the new employee training, I stood right next to you."
Su Xiaoxiao was suddenly faced with so many enthusiastic gazes, leaving her a bit bewildered.
Why did she suddenly become so popular?
Their enthusiasm was overwhelming, and she couldn’t quite handle it.
Just as she was unsure of how to respond, someone reached out to pull her aside: "Xiaoxiao, Director Chen is looking for you, hurry over."
Zhang Yulan gave her a wink, and Su Xiaoxiao immediately understood, apologizing to everyone: "Sorry, folks, Director Chen needs to see me, I’ll be back later to chat."
She hurriedly left with Zhang Yulan, leaving behind a group who wanted to cozy up to her but had nowhere to express their sycophantic efforts.
Once they were far enough away, Su Xiaoxiao let out a long breath: "Sister Zhang, thanks for before."
Zhang Yulan sneered: "You’re just too easygoing. If it were me, I wouldn’t give them the time of day. Usually, they behave like they’re above everyone, but now they’re all eager to cozy up to you because the leaders are paying attention to you. Disgraceful."
Zhang Yulan looked down on those opportunists, her eyes full of contempt.
"Comrade Su."
As the two were talking, a familiar male voice suddenly came from behind.
Su Xiaoxiao turned to see Song Weidong standing there, looking like he’d changed his outfit, which seemed different from before.
When Song Weidong met her gaze, his ears turned a light pink, "Would you like to have lunch together? You treated last time, so this time it’s my turn."
He was referring to the last time they ate at the cafeteria together.
Su Xiaoxiao was about to refuse, but then remembered the watch that Song Weidong had given her and swallowed back her words.
As they say, it’s hard to speak up after accepting someone else’s favor, and that watch was too valuable. Not returning the favor made her feel guilty.
Perhaps lunchtime would be a good opportunity.
Thinking this, Su Xiaoxiao nodded gently: "Alright."
Song Weidong was pleasantly surprised by her quick agreement, feeling quite overjoyed.
It seemed Comrade Su had a good impression of him after all, or she wouldn’t have agreed to lunch with him so readily.
Just then, Qin Shuang happened to pass by to find Su Xiaoxiao and Zhang Yulan for lunch, only to see Su Xiaoxiao talking to a male colleague, with Zhang Yulan observing with a gossipy look.
Wasn’t this the same male colleague from last time?
Song Weidong’s face was too distinctive, so even though Qin Shuang hadn’t seen him many times, he left a strong impression.
She immediately adopted the same gossipy expression as Zhang Yulan, looking at the two of them.
Noticing her gaze, Song Weidong looked over openly.
Su Xiaoxiao, however, felt a bit embarrassed under their stares.
"Don’t get the wrong idea, we’re just having a meal as ordinary friends."
"Oh~ ordinary friends~"
Qin Shuang and Zhang Yulan prolonged their tones simultaneously, clearly believing this ’ordinary’ friendship was anything but.
"Anyway, it’s not what you think. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Comrade Song."
Su Xiaoxiao’s explanation seemed like a cover-up to the two of them.
She looked at Song Weidong, smiling beside her, signaling him to explain.
Song Weidong pretended not to understand; he didn’t want to explain, thinking it better for others to misunderstand.
Comrade Su was very attractive, and back in school, many liked her. Now that he was far away and only returned a few times a year, he felt uneasy if he didn’t secure things quickly. Even a beautiful misunderstanding would be fine.
Su Xiaoxiao was speechless. What was with Song Weidong’s eyes? She’d given him so many signals that her eyes were almost twitching, and he still wouldn’t explain. Wasn’t he worried about affecting his future dating life?
They truly were just pure friends, nothing more.
"Right, whatever Comrade Su says, goes."
After a while, Song Weidong finally chimed in with this line.
But why did his tone sound so indulgent and helpless?
Su Xiaoxiao was dumbfounded. This explanation was worse than no explanation at all.
Forget it, this misunderstanding was too messy to untangle. Su Xiaoxiao decided to channel her frustration into her appetite and give Song Weidong a hard time over lunch for being so vague with his words.
They left the department store together, with plenty of time for lunch since the morning’s commendation meeting ended more than half an hour earlier than usual work hours.
Su Xiaoxiao was considering what to give as a return gift as they walked, and before she knew it, she had arrived beside her bicycle.
She was about to unlock it when she looked down at the state of the bike wheels and couldn’t help but mutter a curse.
Who knows who had blind eyes and locked the wrong bike, ending up locking her bicycle.
Now both the front and back wheels had locks on them, giving an exaggerated sense of security.
Song Weidong, his legs perched on the ground, glanced over with smiling eyes: "Comrade Su, aren’t you riding?"
Su Xiaoxiao: "..."
Her bicycle was now securely locked and couldn’t be moved at all.
Seeing her standing there, Song Weidong seemed to notice Su Xiaoxiao’s locked bicycle and swung his long legs over to step down from his own.
He stood next to Su Xiaoxiao: "Comrade Su, did someone lock your bike?"
Su Xiaoxiao shrugged helplessly: "Looks like we have to walk."
Song Xiangdong’s gaze fell on the extra lock and thought, this lock was perfectly timed.
But he maintained an appearance of shared annoyance with Su Xiaoxiao: "Such people have terrible eyesight, locking someone else’s bike."
Then he suddenly changed his tone, suggesting, "Comrade Su, why don’t I give you a ride?"
Su Xiaoxiao suddenly recalled her previous experience of giving Song Weidong a lift and couldn’t help but twitch her mouth.
"No need, it’s not far, I can walk."
