CHAPTER 1921: CHAPTER 1921: YE YAN’S BIOLOGICAL MOTHER 1
On the first day of 1977, Feng Qingxue worked late into the night, making Lu Jiang who came to pick her up feel quite distressed.
"You can’t keep going like this." A person’s energy is limited.
"There’s no choice; work comes first. The hospital arranged it, and I can go to work later tomorrow since I don’t have any surgeries scheduled, so at least I’ll get adequate sleep." Feng Qingxue sat in the car he opened for her, though she initially said she didn’t plan to use the car for personal use. In this chilly weather, she had to use it, but she paid for the fuel herself, so it didn’t count as taking advantage of the state.
Lu Jiang opened the thermos and handed it to her, along with chopsticks and a long-handled soup spoon. "Acheng invited us to eat at Quanjude for lunch. I saved half a roast duck for you, but it’s already cold and too greasy, so I asked Aunt Zhang to make soup with the duck bones and added homemade noodles. Eat while it’s hot; it might be a bit clumpy from the journey."
Feng Qingxue picked up her chopsticks and started eating. "Clumpy noodles are easier to digest; I just want something easy to digest."
She had only had one meal in the morning and performed surgery for thirteen consecutive hours during the day without a break, only having a couple of sips of water after the surgery. She was already starving.
"Eat slowly, don’t rush." Lu Jiang signaled the driver Wang Qiao to start the car while he held the thermos for her and continued telling her about how they perfectly missed meeting Chen Xueniang and her husband, laughing, "Who would have thought we’d miss each other? We went to find them, and they came to the compound."
Feng Qingxue was indifferent, "Otherwise, why do they say coincidences make stories? We didn’t schedule a meeting, so missing each other is normal. I’ll go find her for fun when I have time."
"Can you rest around the Spring Festival?" Lu Jiang asked.
"It’s difficult! When I returned from vacation, I found out that I had taken two months off from October to December. If I hadn’t been away from the Capital, they would have called me back to work early. Having taken such a long vacation, there’s no way I’ll get time off around the Spring Festival. I reckon I won’t even have anything on Sundays." Fortunately, there’s supplementary income besides the salary allowance, otherwise, hmph!
For Lu Jiang’s future, she declined several promotion opportunities the hospital offered after the disaster last year. Lu Jiang didn’t know about this, but the hospital management was fully aware and wouldn’t be too excessive in this regard.
Lu Jiang listened and wondered, "You’re so busy; why haven’t they increased your benefits?"
Feng Qingxue glanced at him. "There are only a few promotion spots; they can’t possibly always be mine. I’m still young. If I work hard, I’ll get promoted sooner or later. I’ve already planned that when universities resume classes in the future, I’ll take the graduate school entrance exam to improve my education, so my diploma from Workers, Peasants, and Soldiers College won’t be lower than a normal university degree."
Coming from the future, she has an inexplicable yearning for education and wants to set a good example for the children.
The gold content of the Workers, Peasants, and Soldiers College degree is too low to avoid formal college students’ discrimination. She must study hard and strive for progress to increase her confidence, so her advancements in medicine aren’t attributed to connections.
"Hearing you say that, I have to work hard too." With a low degree, the kids might tease me.
For high-ranking officers in the military, it’s easy to improve their education by taking courses often arranged by military schools for such officers. Lu Jiang had also undertaken brief courses in the past two years.
Feng Qingxue laughed, "Then you need to study now; we have plenty of study materials at home."
