Professor Xie chuckled, ate several grapes in a row, and then began to reminisce with her.
"Have you heard that the high school entrance exam system is going to be restored?" The first thing the old professor asked was this.
Feng Qingxue nodded, "I was at the meeting when the symposium was held and I was a supporter. The restoration of the high school entrance exam system is certain. Various universities are currently holding admission symposiums. I believe you will soon have your reputation restored. How can new students be taught without veterans like you?"
Professor Xie smiled and said nothing.
Seeing his appearance, Feng Qingxue couldn’t help but ask, "Has the state already restored your reputation?"
"Yes!" Professor Xie was full of emotion, "I never expected we old folks could wait until the clouds dispersed. The day before yesterday, I received the notice of rehabilitation, asking me to return to campus after the entrance exam restoration. I don’t have to clean the library anymore. My reputation has been restored, and they compensated all the wages for these years. The tenants crowding in my house will move out soon."
"I thought so. When I just walked in, those two families were in a huff. They looked at me with disdain." It turns out they were ordered to move out of the large house that the state once allocated to Professor Xie.
Professor Xie laughed, "Housing is tight, and it’s understandable they don’t want to leave."
He understood but still didn’t like outsiders living in his house.
Feng Qingxue nodded, "Alright then, you rest and take care of yourself. I’ll go check on the other professors and give them some watermelon. It’s rare to come across a good batch, so I bought quite a bit."
"Wait a moment." Professor Xie called her back.
Feng Qingxue looked up to see Professor Xie opening the desk drawer and taking out two scrolls wrapped in kraft paper and a seal stone, "Don’t you often practice calligraphy and painting? These two paintings are for you."
"Where did you get these?" Opening them, Feng Qingxue was stunned.
One was a Flower and Bird Painting by Song Huizong, and the other was a Galloping Horse Painting by Xu Beihong. The seal stone was Tianhuang Stone.
Professor Xie smiled, "I got them from the junkyard, just these two beautiful paintings. I thought you’d like them, so I spent a few bucks and bought them. I had an old friend authenticate them, and he said they’re real."
"The worst times are over, these things have potential. You should keep them as a collection."
Although Feng Qingxue was reluctant to part with them, she knew what was more important.
Professor Xie smiled again, "What do I, a medical scholar, need them for? In your hands, you can truly learn from them. In mine, they’re just gems collecting dust. Didn’t you also copy a set of good medical books for me? I’ve benefited greatly."
Feng Qingxue recalled bringing medical texts from Shanghai. Guo Ming and several master physicians praised them, so when she mentioned them to Professor Xie, he was curious and excited. She didn’t have time then, so she asked Ye Yan and Fubao to take turns copying them. After several checks for typos, she sent them to Professor Xie. She might have forgotten if he hadn’t brought it up.
"You’re generous and don’t hoard treasures selfishly; that’s very good, very good. As your teacher, how could I be stingy?" The sea of knowledge is vast, and Professor Xie never believed he had learned it all. During his years of hardship, he delved deeper into academic research.
Unable to refuse, Feng Qingxue accepted the two paintings and the Tianhuang Stone, deciding to be even more filial to the old professor in the future.
