Chapter 59. The Fallen Female Warlock
CHAPTER 59: 59. THE FALLEN FEMALE WARLOCK
Magic Power reaction?
This was Lann’s first thought.
What the hell?
The second thought followed immediately.
Lann was very certain that the person before him had no magic items.
This person sat slumped in the dark wooden cage.
The two legs stretched out weakly, not out of laziness, but because the calf area of both legs... had been completely cut off!
Missing a large amount of calf muscle, the control of the entire leg no longer allows for complex movements.
There was only a dress commonly seen on a farmer’s wife from head to toe.
It seemed to be a lady, an unremarkable-looking woman.
Lann estimated that the dress was left on because it didn’t interfere with cutting the meat from the legs.
A woman like her couldn’t possibly hide any magic items without being discovered.
Could it be she has Magic Power herself?
...Isn’t that even more absurd!
Having Magic Power means being a Warlock! A Warlock in such a miserable state in a group of criminals?
Lann didn’t know where to place his hands now.
This was the first time he’d seen a Caster with his own eyes.
At that moment, the woman in the cage seemed to muster up her spirits upon seeing Lann, breaking out of her lethargic state.
She spoke with a somewhat stronger voice.
"Don’t just stand there, Demon Hunter. Were you hired by the Academy to find me?"
To find you? Academy?
What are you talking about?
Lann couldn’t straighten out his thoughts for a moment, but luckily he knew what was most important right now.
"Lady, you must keep quiet!"
Lann’s voice was stern but as soft as the fluttering of insect wings.
The woman seemed to have excellent night vision, glancing around and noticing that some prisoners were casting unfocused glances towards them in the darkness.
So she suppressed her joyful expression and quieted down.
Lann continued to ask.
"Tell me your identity and why you were captured."
Lann wanted to say, "Lady, you’re mistaken. My greatest fame right now is leading a squad of soldiers; I barely went a few miles to find an eater and the rest has just been dealing with Water Ghosts in a fishing village. If an employer comes to find me for business over two hundred Oren actively, they must be a bit shameless."
But he couldn’t say that.
The woman’s leg wounds were clearly infected and festering. Conservatively, whether or not she was captured, it must’ve been five or six days just from those wounds.
Lann didn’t know how she’d endured those five or six days.
Whether it was the wounds or mental torture, each was deadly.
Seeing her forcefully maintaining her spirits now, Lann feared that revealing his intentions might cause her to suffocate and die right in the cage.
Could the camp possess such a level of power that could turn a Female Warlock into this state?
Cold sweat broke out all over Lann instantly.
If he acted rashly again, he might unknowingly bump into such a power!
He definitely needed to clarify.
But just then, the Female Warlock furrowed her brows, observing Lann’s head and face smeared with fresh blood.
"You weren’t sent by the Academy to rescue me, were you, Demon Hunter?"
Lann pursed his lips, not answering.
Surprisingly, the psychological fortitude of the Female Warlock exceeded Lann’s expectations.
Faced with the adversity of suddenly finding a lifeline and then realizing the lifeline was cut, she wasn’t defeated.
She coughed abruptly, then after a deep breath, she raised her head and looked Lann directly in the eyes again.
"An assassination could leave you so bedraggled... I’ve clearly burned out, the Academy wouldn’t hire a rookie like you. Fine, I’ll tell you what you want to know."
The Female Warlock chuckled softly in misery.
"I am the dean of Airetusa Academy."
Oh my!
Did she have to drop such a bombshell with her first sentence!
Lann’s cat’s eye pupils couldn’t help but constrict.
Idle chatter overheard at the Gos Velen tavern bubbled up in his mind; the Dean of Airetusa, one of the few strong Warlocks in the world.
...Is this camp such a dragon’s lair and tiger’s den?
"Marguerite Lox Andelie?"
"Yes, it’s me."
Lann was shocked, but his face held its composure.
At this moment, his cat’s eyes began to move, searching the cage for people, hoping to find Little White.
If a powerful person capable of defeating such a renowned Female Warlock appeared, he hoped to at least escape with White.
"How do you prove it? Legend has it that you’re a beauty that makes Nymphs embarrassed."
"The legends don’t lie." The Female Warlock boasted unmatched confidence in this regard.
Her demeanor showed indifference to the legend, she simply waved off Lann’s doubt. "Magic Cream can increase charm, but it can also hide beauty if needed. To you, to those damn bastards, I now look plainer than a peasant woman."
"I came out to find a missing student. Couldn’t be too conspicuous, let the murderer know there’s a fairy-like beauty hunting him."
"You said... ’murderer’?"
"Yes, murderer." Margaret reached out and patted a bone-white thigh beside her.
"A naive girl from the Academy was attracted to a wild man from Velen, fled from the Academy for the love, wanted to taste the forbidden fruit."
"Ha, she thought she could return to resume her magical studies after a night of passion; this is no big deal, nearly routine for the Academy. But life is unpredictable, who knew that not only would the man want her V-jay, but also her heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys?"
The Female Warlock’s crudeness left the virgin Lann speechless.
But as the young man disengaged from his search, turning to observe the Female Warlock, he realized she wasn’t ridiculing or insulting her student.
Her gaze at the thigh bone was full of sorrow and regret.
If she didn’t genuinely care about her student, why would a dean of a Magic Academy personally leave her fortress?
In Airetusa, anyone who sets foot here must give respect to the Academy, even if that person is the King.
But now, the Academy’s dean was thrown into a cage with cannibals and traffickers, her calves almost stripped to the bone!
"Who could defeat you, Lady?"
Lann asked softly; this was his most pressing question.
This related to whether he could successfully find and take away White.
"You’re one of the world’s strongest Female Warlocks, who here could harm even a strand of your hair?"
Margaret stopped caressingly touching the student’s relic, looked up at the speaking Demon Hunter with surprise, silent for a long while.
"I say Demon Hunter... do you have some misunderstanding about Casters?"
"..."*2
Lann gave a bewildered look in return, and so did Mentos in his mind.
"Ha, looks like your mentor never taught you how to deal with Warlocks."
Margaret chuckled lightly.
Lann nodded sincerely.
"Yes, my mentor left early."
It was he who ’sent’ him away.
"That makes it understandable. In your impression, shouldn’t a Warlock just wave their hand and rain down fire from the skies? Facing a legion’s hail of arrows, with a breath, we’d summon a hurricane to scatter them like dew from the palm? Warriors before us should be like stronger ants, even their swords slicing into us cannot break through the magic shield?"
In the darkness, the Demon Hunter’s cat eyes glowed faintly, he cautiously queried.
"Isn’t it so?"
"...You’re adorable, Little Demon Hunter."
Margaret’s flirtatious tone caused Lann to furrow his brows.
"Keep it short, Lady! The matter concerns many lives here, maybe even yours!"
"Alright, Little Demon Hunter is impatient. But no need; the night is long. You’ve done without being detected, this night is as tranquil as the ones before."
The Female Warlock waved, becoming serious.
However, during this, the vibration of the Roaring Bear Head Necklace on Lann’s neck suddenly intensified by one level!
It lasted just a moment, then returned to the vibration level when he first approached Margaret.
Lann looked down at his necklace, then at the Female Warlock.
"Alright, what do you mean?"
He thought it was a small trick by the Female Warlock to teach him.
But seeing Margaret’s equally bewildered expression, he quickly overturned this thought.
"I, I can’t cast spells right now!"
The amber cat eyes nearly instantly shrunk to a slit!
Simultaneously, a blasting horn sounded from the camp!
