Beast Evolution System: Devourer of Heaven
Chapter 10: Armadillo
CHAPTER 10: CHAPTER 10: ARMADILLO
Ved was stunned, he just bragged about having a lot of time and now this, the system sure knows it timings. ’ A month though, really? It took me months to gather what little I have and I have to get more than that in a month? System, you’ve got to be joking right?’
(System does not joke) (Well f**k. By Thor’s belly how am I supposed to do that?’ he thought about his options and realised no matter how fast he increases his hunting speed he won’t be able to do it in time.
The only way is start hunting rank 1 beasts everyday but there weren’t a lot of them. Including the crocodile he had only met 5 and he wasn’t going to kill the rabbit.
Which means his only option is hunting the other three but finding them will take time and truth be told he was still traumatized by his past encounter with them.
Even though he knew 1 vs 1 he was most likely stronger than them it still didn’t do much to lessen his fear but this time he didn’t have a choise.
When the sun rose he left his hole and headed for the river. Since the sharks work as pair he will have to deal with them last, so his immediate target naturally became the otter.
He swam into the depths of the river, along the way he killed every fish he thought might give him evolution points, nomatter how little they might be.
The sun set and he still did not find the otter, he didn’t go back to his hole. He was going to spend the night searching. Until he accumulate enough points to evolve he didn’t plan on resting.
At noon the following day he sensed a familiar aura. He followed the scent and found a family of otters chasing after a school of fish near the riverbank on the other side of the river.
However this aura did not come from the otters, infact it did not even come from the river. It came from deep in the Jungle, the moment he appeared the giant otters ran away.
He swam out and started walking slowly and cautiously through the dense jungle. A smell of iron entered his nose, something was bleeding close by.
He walked a bit faster and before long he saw a giant creature as large as a cow covered in scales. It was an armadillo with claws as long as kitchen knives.
It had spikes running along it spine with brown earthy scales protecting it body like armour. It was eating a monkey and he could sense the aura on the monkey as well.
The moment he drew close it raised it head and looked at him then ignored him and continued eating. Although it was also a rank 1 beast it aura was much stronger than any other creature he had seen.
Normally he would’ve ignored it and left, fighting it would not have been worth the risk, normally that is but right now, not fighting it is the risk.
Seeing as it was not paying him any mind he walked around it to attack it from the side. He sneaked up to it, it was laying flat on it stomach unprotected.
As soon as he was close enough he swung his claw at it side and imagined ripping through it scales but when his claws met the scales sparks flew.
His claw was deflected and only left a white mark on it brown scales. This surprised him, even when his claws couldn’t outright kill his opponents they still wounded them.
But they couldn’t even leave a tiny wound on this armadillo. It turned it head and looked at him. ’ uh good evening mate, sorry about that, weird greetings we have where I’m from’
It swung it sharp long claws at him but it was slow, very slow for a rank 1 beast. He dodged it without much effort but it continued to chase after him.
He ran around it,sometimes attacking with his claws at other times he used his tail but none were able to pierce through it scales. He had even spit a ball of poison at it.
But it wasn’t able to permeate through it scales, this was the first time this happened. He had tested it, his poison can even permeate through rock like it’s a sponge.
Their game of cat and mouse lasted for a while. Eventually he decided it was pointless and ran towards the river but then it suddenly curled up into a ball.
The spikes on it back stood erect. ’oh shit’ he had watched too many anime to not know this move and as he expected. It started spinning.
It span faster and faster until it body became nothing but a large sharp disk then it rolled towards him. It scales cut through the ground like it was butter.
He knew if it hit him he would be in deep trouble but it speed had increased multiple time, running away will not be easy. However it was still not as fast as the rabbit.
He jumped to the side and dodged it, the tree behind him was split down the middle and fell. ’ Getting hit by that really doesn’t seem good for my health, especially in this economy.
Woah’ He dodged it by a hairs breath. ’ Stop getting distracted Ved, this isn’t time for jokes, good as they might be’ He chastised himself and continued running and dodging then an idea struck him.
He stopped and waited for it, he waited until it was very close then dodged to the side but before it could get past he rammed it. He put his entire weight behind it and it body soared through the air still spinning.
It cut through multiple trees, went through a boulder like it was piece of paper then rammed into the ground picking up stone and dust.
He ran as fast as he could towards it, he found it still trying to stand up but it heavy body made the process slow. It stomach was fully exposed to him.
Now he understood why it was laying on it stomach when it ate or why it moved the way it did. Unlike the rest of it body, the scales on it stomach looked thin and softer.
He didn’t waste the opportunity and dug his claws into it soft belly and to be sure he injected a large amount of poison inside it. It cried in pain, it bellows shook the trees and picked up leaves but slowly it died down until eventually it was completely dead.
