Beast Evolution System: Devourer of Heaven
Chapter 33: True Source
CHAPTER 33: CHAPTER 33: TRUE SOURCE
Every living thing had the desire to live, the fear of death, even those without spirituality or intelligence, those driven solely by instincts feared death.
It was in the nature of all that lives. Was he a coward for fearing death, was he wrong or pathetic for wanting to live? No, he was the most natural, the one most honest to his primal nature.
His desire to live triumphed all things, his every action should be to preserve his life, he had forgotten that. He had sought power and strength without reason forgetting what he sought them for but that is not who he is, that is not the source of his will.
No wonder his will was feeble, his images so blurry and hollow but no more. He knows why he fight now, why he struggle. It is not for strength nor pleasure, he sought neither dominance nor worship.
It is merely to live, one might argue his desire to live was without purpose but what purpose did one need to be true to ones self. What use are dreams to those whose bodies had turned cold and whose souls roam the Netherworld.
He did have dreams, he did have desires like all others but they came second, what use are they if he is not alive. He opened his eyes and saw a blazing paw descend upon him.
His mind ran simulations, calculating his best chance of survival with what he have in his arsenal. His poison and web were out so he didn’t count them.
What was left was his physical traits. His iron scales could potentially block the attack and suffer minimal demage but that did not sound ideal, even with herculean strength he doubted he could match it strength.
That only left his flash trait, speed was the answer. The best part about it was that he did not even need to match it speed, he just needed to move fast enough to avoid it attacks.
An image of lighting cutting through the clouds, of a ray of light sailing through an empty void appeared in his mind. He merged these images with his idea of the flash trait then he moved.
All of this happened in blink of an eye. His body moved so fast the world seemed to stretch around him. Then he heard a loud booming sound followed by an intense wave of heat.
He turned back to look and the place he was standing on just a moment ago was now a tiny pool of lava. He had moved almost 500 metres away in a blink of eye.
While that speed was not impossible with his flash trait he should mention he was barely using it at 20 percent. He didn’t have enough stamina to use it at full power.
He couldn’t even run at full speed using his base speed let alone the stamina extensive flash trait yet he still covered such a large distance.
What confused him though was that he did not feel like he moved faster, he was almost certain his speed was the same which doesn’t explain why he moved so far so fast.
But he didn’t have the time to dwell on it, he needed to use this opportunity to get to the cave. All that was left was maneuvering around the male lion.
Fortunately it was slower than the female, as long as he could use the image again he could easily dodge it. He conjured the image in his mind.
Then lunged towards the cave but he only moved 15 metres forward. ’ Huh?’ he conjured the image again and still nothing, the lion approached him slowly as if mocking him.
The temperature emanating from it body was so high it paws left burning foot prints of lava on the ground. When the lion reached him it slapped out with it giant paw.
He conjured the image again but he was more desperate, if it doesn’t work he was certain to die. He imagined a bolt of lightning zapping through a calamitous falling sun that burnt all things to ash.
Then kicked the ground with his back foot, his body became and blur and the world became indistinct lines of different colours in his eyes.
Then he found himself rolling on the ground, when he stood up he found himself next to the cave, no more than a metre from it, his mind and body relaxed.
Even with their speed, they couldn’t be fast enough to stop him now, just as he was about to jump into the cave his legs gave in and he fell.
’huh.’ a mind splitting headache followed, his vision became blurry followed by a buzzing noise in his head. He felt nauseous, this was strange.
This was the first time he felt sick, as in truly sick since he became like this. No matter how hard he tried to move, his body refused his commands.
All he could do was crawl like a snail, and even then only his front legs had enough strength to atleast pull him forward. The strange thing was that he felt no pain on his body.
Only his head was in pain and it was so intense it made him want to bash his head on a wall, he was even starting to think maybe it would be better to die than endure this.
He imagined a peaceful sleep where he couldn’t wake up, a sleep without pain, the moment that image appeared the headache lessened but he did not notice because he had bigger problems.
The two lions had turned their attention at him but with the headache lessened he was able to crawl a bit faster. He crawled as fast as his two arms could drag him.
He gritted his teeth and tried to move even faster but his tough scale had too much friction against the ground and he was heavy, he was very heavy for something of his size which slowed him down.
But he wasn’t about to give up, he couldn’t die here, the headache intensified again, he felt as if his mind was about to blank out but he persevered.
He had to live, he wanted to live because only alive can he achieve all his other dreams. The more he wanted to live the worst the headache became.
He was merely a few centimetres away from the cave barrier when he heard a familiar deafening sound. ’ so close’ then he blanked out.
