He bent down and handed the female in his arms to them.

Jie Ling blinked her eyes curiously. "Are cold-blooded snake Beastmen the ones that are cold, irritable, cunning, selfish, and venomous?"

Bei Ji, who was not far away, heard Jie Ling’s words and angrily turned his head.

Jie Ling suddenly met Bei Ji’s eyes.

Ming Yan’s authoritative gaze swept over them, and the Tiger Beastmen quieted down once again.

"Now to assign the tasks. Hu Yong, you take a group to move supplies into the cave and secure the door. Hu Que, lead a group to take the females and cubs to the cave, and ensure their protection."

The last group of White Tiger Beastmen stood atop the ramparts, their bodies like the very walls of Black Tiger City itself!

The sight of the locusts slowly encroaching reminded Si Yan of her previous life—zombies pressing in, her atop the city walls. Inside the walls were the survivors; beyond lay all zombies. She thought she would face a life-and-death struggle with zombies. To die in battle was not something she feared. But in the end, the man whom she had always thought of as a brother betrayed her. He stabbed her in the back and pushed her down.

"What are you thinking about?" Ming Yan asked.

"Nothing," Si Yan laughed casually.

Ming Yan’s eyes were deep. "The birds we’ve captured haven’t been fed; some have been starved for seven days."

Si Yan was surprised. "None have starved to death?"

Ming Yan found this amusing, but his scarred face, even when he smiled, looked ferocious.

"Do you think the beasts here can starve to death in seven days?" he spoke slowly. "Life is tougher than you imagine."

Si Yan was taken aback and looked towards the distant swarm of locusts.

Birds starved for seven days, wouldn’t they feast now? But the feast before them was too vast to be completely consumed.

As she pondered, Ming Yan suddenly grabbed her. The pull hurt her arm.

"Later, stick close to me and do exactly as I say."

The black swarm of locusts howled madly.

Ming Yan’s gaze was fixed, his presence commanding.

"Release!" he roared with the authority of a male beast. Upon his command, the Tiger Beastmen uniformly opened the doors containing the birds!

Birds, once confined within the various caves, suddenly burst forth, filling the sky. They formed a vast avian army, while the locusts resembled an army of insects.

For many years to come, Si Yan could not forget this scene, even after she and Ming Yan had parted ways, even after they met again following their separation. He was like a General commanding thousands of troops. His warriors charged the enemy!

Atop the city walls, Ming Yan and Si Yan continued to watch the distant horizon where the battle unfolded.

The roars from Black Tiger City were incessant. Evidently, in this initial clash, the birds captured by the Tiger Beastmen were triumphant, winning the first battle!

Suddenly, Ming Yan tensed. "Take cover!"

"Yes!"

Following Ming Yan, the Tiger Beastmen hurried into the prepared cave, shutting the stone doors.
