Becoming The Bigshot's Only Love After Breaking Her Engagement
Chapter 109: Abandoned by His Birth Mother
CHAPTER 109: CHAPTER 109: ABANDONED BY HIS BIRTH MOTHER
When they returned, Wu Taotao was the happiest because Ye Ningwan was taken by Zhan Hanjue in his own car.
Initially, Ye Ningwan wanted Wu Taotao to go with her.
But with just a glance from Zhan Hanjue, Wu Taotao immediately understood and said tactfully, "I’d better go with Senior Brother Leng. I just happened to have something to discuss with him."
Without waiting for Ye Ningwan to react, she jumped into Leng Ziqing’s car and eagerly urged him to drive.
Back in Jiangcheng, Ye Ningwan moved from Wu Taotao’s place back to the Zhan Family.
Old Mrs. Zhan was delighted to know she had moved back and hurriedly came to visit her.
"Ningwan, you’re finally back. If you didn’t come back, I would have personally gone to bring you home," she said happily.
Ye Ningwan blushed with embarrassment and apologized, "Grandmother, I’m sorry for making you worry."
"It’s alright, it’s alright. Young couples always have arguments, but they reconcile quickly. Don’t stay angry for too long. This is how Hanjue seems more human; he never used to get angry like this," Old Mrs. Zhan said with a smile.
Ye Ningwan smiled awkwardly.
"Ningwan, let me show you something interesting," Old Mrs. Zhan said mysteriously.
Ye Ningwan was curious about what her grandmother wanted to show her that was so mysterious.
Unexpectedly, Old Mrs. Zhan took out a large box, and inside there was an album.
"Zhan Hanjue’s photo album?" Ye Ningwan asked.
Old Mrs. Zhan nodded. Inside was a thick photo album, well-preserved and almost like new.
Old Mrs. Zhan handed it to Ye Ningwan.
Ye Ningwan took it in her hands; it was quite heavy.
Opening the first page, there was a photo of Zhan Hanjue as a newborn.
He was weighed at birth, and he weighed seven pounds and three ounces, a chubby little baby.
But the little fatty cried fiercely, with his mouth open so wide you could see down to his throat.
Old Mrs. Zhan laughed and said, "When he was born, he was the loudest crier among the newborns in the room."
"I can see that," Ye Ningwan nodded.
Old Mrs. Zhan urged her to keep flipping through.
Ye Ningwan turned to the next page, still filled with photos of Zhan Hanjue.
There were photos of him alone, as well as photos with Old Mrs. Zhan, and photos where Zhan Changwen was holding him.
Zhan Hanjue grew from a chubby little boy to a handsome little kid.
As a child, his smile was carefree, grinning from ear to ear.
But later on, there were fewer smiling photos.
Most of the time, he looked serious.
Many photos seemed to have been taken secretly, with one showing him glancing over, discovering the secret photo, and showing an annoyed expression.
Although there were many photos in the album, they stopped around when he was eight years old.
Moreover, Ye Ningwan noticed something strange; the photos showed people like Old Mrs. Zhan, Zhan Changwen, and peers his age, but there were none with his mother.
"Did you notice there are no photos of him with his biological mother?" Old Mrs. Zhan asked.
Ye Ningwan nodded.
She had someone investigate Zhan Hanjue before, learning many things about him, but never any mention of his biological mother.
It seemed as if no such person ever existed in this world.
But it shouldn’t be.
Even if she died right after giving birth, there should have been some news about her.
Old Mrs. Zhan spoke with pain, "That woman... abandoned her husband and child. When Hanjue was eight, she ran off with another man. At eight years old, Hanjue was already mature enough to destroy all traces of her, forbidding anyone to ever mention her again."
"So... that’s how it was?" Ye Ningwan was shocked, never expecting that Zhan Hanjue’s biological mother would abandon him.
"Back then, Hanjue’s father heard about her, so he took Hanjue to see her. Unexpectedly, they had an accident on the way," Old Mrs. Zhan explained.
Ye Ningwan thought of that car accident, which was caused by Fu Wenfang deliberately to kill her parents. She wondered if it was their car that led to the Zhan’s car incident.
"Grandmother, I’m sorry," Ye Ningwan apologized.
Old Mrs. Zhan laughed, "Why are you apologizing to me? It’s not your fault."
"But my parents in that car accident..."
"Speaking of this, I’ve always felt guilty," Old Mrs. Zhan regretted, "Although the police later confirmed the two cars never collided, they both rolled separately down to the riverbank. However, our Zhan Family found Hanjue first and took him away, didn’t take you. If we had sent you to the hospital back then, you wouldn’t have been sent to the countryside by the Ye Family."
"Grandmother, I bear the surname Ye, I was just a child then. The Ye Family... had the right to deal with me. Even if you sent me to the hospital, the Ye Family could still take me away," Ye Ningwan said with a bitter smile, comforting her.
Old Mrs. Zhan sighed, "If I had known you and Hanjue would have this connection, I would never have let the Ye Family take you away."
"Grandmother, actually about my parents’ car accident..."
"Ye Ningwan,"
Zhan Hanjue interrupted Ye Ningwan as he pushed open the door.
Seeing him, Old Mrs. Zhan smiled, "Hanjue, you’re here. What Ye Ningwan, call your wife, how can you use her full name?"
"Ningning," Zhan Hanjue obediently called again.
Old Mrs. Zhan was finally satisfied.
But soon, Zhan Hanjue noticed the photo album, his face turned red, and he quickly went over to take it into his hands.
"Grandmother, why did you show her this?"
"What’s the big deal; she’s not an outsider," Old Mrs. Zhan said matter-of-factly.
Zhan Hanjue’s ears turned red as he put the album away, "I’ll keep this album from now on."
"No, you can’t," Old Mrs. Zhan immediately disagreed, "This is my only keepsake; you can’t take it away from me. Mrs. Chen, take it back."
"Sure thing."
Mrs. Chen smiled and went to take it back.
Zhan Hanjue naturally wouldn’t fight with Mrs. Chen for it, so he obediently handed it over.
"Alright, alright, I won’t disturb you two. I’ll be off," Old Mrs. Zhan said as she got up.
Zhan Hanjue immediately extended his hand to help her stand.
After Mrs. Chen left with Old Mrs. Zhan, Zhan Hanjue closed the door and turned to Ye Ningwan, "You don’t need to explain the real reason for your parents’ car accident to grandmother."
"Why?" Ye Ningwan asked.
Zhan Hanjue replied, "Your parents’ accident and my father’s accident were originally two different accidents. It just so happened that fate... led both cars to crash at the same place. The police speculated this back then too. Given this, there’s no need to stir up trouble. Father’s death is grandmother’s heartache; she likes you very much, so why make her sad?"
"Okay, I understand," Ye Ningwan acknowledged his concern and nodded.
"Grandmother is getting older; she really likes you, so let her... keep liking you, without making her sad," Zhan Hanjue said.
Ye Ningwan responded, "I understand. I won’t mention it again."
"And..."
Zhan Hanjue hesitated to speak.
