Becoming The Bigshot's Only Love After Breaking Her Engagement
Chapter 139: Forcing Them to Divorce
CHAPTER 139: CHAPTER 139: FORCING THEM TO DIVORCE
Ningwan and Zhan Hanjue knelt together before Old Mrs. Zhan.
Old Mrs. Zhan looked at them, trembling with anger, tears streaming down her face.
One was her beloved grandson whom she raised with all her heart, and the other was the granddaughter-in-law she was completely satisfied with.
Unexpectedly, it was these two people who caused the death of her only son.
"Grandma, it was my fault. I abandoned my father to save an outsider, it’s all my fault." Zhan Hanjue hung his head, apologizing in a low voice.
Ningwan’s body trembled.
She suddenly recalled the time Zhan Hanjue took her to pay respects to his father and insisted she kneel.
She indeed should kneel; she owed him a life.
"But Grandma," Zhan Hanjue continued, "if it weren’t for Ningwan, I might have died in that car accident too. It was her cries that woke me up, giving me a chance to escape."
"So, you gave up on your father just to save her?" Old Mrs. Zhan questioned.
Zhan Hanjue lowered his head once again.
This issue remained unexplained, a deep pain that had haunted him for years, a recurring nightmare in his dreams.
"You know very well this girl indirectly caused your father’s death. Yet, you still married her, playing music in harmony with her. Zhan Hanjue, don’t you feel guilty towards your father in your dreams? Your father paid so much for you. How could you face him?" Old Mrs. Zhan angrily demanded.
"Grandma, I’m sorry." Zhan Hanjue apologized again.
Ningwan couldn’t help but shed tears.
She knew that whatever she said now would be useless.
She was the one who wronged the Zhan Family.
Seeing Zhan Hanjue apologize, she could only follow and apologize too: "Grandma, I’m sorry, it’s all my fault."
"Don’t call me Grandma."
Old Mrs. Zhan had calmed down by now.
She looked at her coldly: "I know you were young at the time and it’s not entirely your fault. But I can’t let someone who indirectly caused my son’s death stay in the Zhan Family. Leave! Go with Hanjue to complete the divorce procedures. From now on, you will have nothing to do with our Zhan Family."
"Grandma..."
Ningwan looked at her with red-rimmed eyes.
Old Mrs. Zhan indeed liked and was satisfied with her.
But thinking of her son, she couldn’t bear to see this woman again.
"Hanjue, if you still consider yourself a part of the Zhan Family, and my grandson, then divorce her. If you are unwilling, you never have to see me again; I’ll consider I never had you as my grandson." Old Mrs. Zhan also gave Zhan Hanjue her final ultimatum.
Her words were cutting into Zhan Hanjue’s heart.
Zhan Hanjue clenched his fists, his body trembling slightly.
Seeing him unable to make an immediate decision, Old Mrs. Zhan let out a cold laugh and, dizzy, unexpectedly fainted.
"Old Madam, what happened to you?" Mrs. Chen was startled.
Zhan Hanjue was also frightened, immediately getting up to support the old lady.
Ningwan quickly said, "Let me feel her pulse, I know medicine."
"Get away. Even if she were dying, the old lady wouldn’t want you to save her." Mrs. Chen angrily pushed Ningwan aside.
Mrs. Leng said coolly, "I had already prepared the doctor, just outside."
After saying this, she called, and a doctor immediately came in.
Old Mrs. Zhan, overwhelmed by anger, naturally had no major issues.
However, the doctor also said that the old lady was old and not in good health. She couldn’t withstand more shock, and the family must pay close attention to prevent incidents like today’s from happening again.
"I will remember." Zhan Hanjue nodded.
Ningwan, being a healer, could easily tell that Old Mrs. Zhan’s fainting was feigned.
But she couldn’t say anything.
Even if she did, no one might believe her.
When Old Mrs. Zhan woke up, she immediately asked Zhan Hanjue if he would divorce.
Zhan Hanjue dared not provoke her further and could only clench his fists, nodding and agreeing: "I will divorce."
Ningwan staggered back, her face pale.
She felt immense pain within.
Like needles piercing and knives stabbing.
However, she had no right or position to demand Zhan Hanjue to dismiss the idea.
Mrs. Leng curled her lips and immediately called for the lawyer.
They already had the lawyer and divorce agreement prepared.
Ningwan smirked bitterly.
It seemed Mrs. Leng had planned all this for quite some time.
"Ningwan, sign the papers!" Mrs. Leng said.
With trembling hands, Ningwan picked up the pen and signed her name.
She didn’t even look at the terms of the divorce agreement.
After all, she was alone and could not offer any compensation to Zhan Hanjue.
As for whether he would compensate her, she did not care.
"Mr. Ye, take your Ye family daughter away! How you handle her afterward is your Ye family’s business and has nothing to do with our Zhan Family anymore." Mrs. Leng said to Mr. Ye.
Mr. Ye nodded.
He signaled Ye Henghui to take Ningwan away.
Mrs. Chen had already asked He to pack Ningwan’s belongings, tossing a suitcase to her.
He cried tearfully, reluctant to part.
However, she was just a little maid with no say, unable to do anything but cry.
Ye Henghui took Ningwan’s suitcase and led her away.
Once out of the Zhan Family, Mr. Ye angrily berated Ningwan: "You have the same ungrateful and rebellious heart as your father. My illness is terminal, yet you deliberately tricked me."
Ningwan looked at him, haggard from illness, and couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh: "Isn’t your terminal illness something you already knew? You just didn’t want to admit it, so you clung to life, falling into my trap."
"You wretch." Mr. Ye cursed angrily.
Ningwan chuckled coldly: "Indeed, I’m a wretch. Your illness could have been delayed a bit more, but now, isn’t it getting more unbearable? Rest assured, it will only get worse, and you will die slowly in pain."
"You dare harm your grandfather? Our Ye Family has no place for someone like you." Ye Henghui glared furiously.
Ningwan said, "I ceased being part of the Ye Family long ago. From the day I was sent away by the Ye Family, I had no ties to them. My ’Ye’ stands for Ye Zhuoliang, and has nothing to do with the Ye Family."
Having said that, Ningwan turned and left.
"Henghui, stop her, bring her back." Mr. Ye ordered, panting.
Ye Henghui immediately blocked Ningwan’s path.
Ningwan looked at him coldly: "You’re stopping me?"
"It’s useless not to admit you belong to the Ye Family. You’ve been expelled from the Zhan Family, so you must return to the Ye Family. Only the Ye Family has the right to decide your future." Ye Henghui arrogantly declared.
Ningwan laughed mockingly.
Did they think it was still a feudal society, where women were subject to their husbands and fathers?
How ludicrous.
Did they think she was still that helpless six-year-old girl from thirteen years ago, left at their mercy?
"Ah, my arm."
Ye Henghui fell to the ground, rolling in pain.
The Ye family servants rushed up, and Ningwan coldly warned: "Who dares to come forward will share the same fate as Ye Henghui."
The servants, having suffered at Ningwan’s hands before, dared not move, and could only watch her leave blankly.
