The middle-aged woman said to Zhan Hanjue, "This is Divine Doctor Bai Zhi, but since you can’t see, just greet her."

Zhan Hanjue looked towards the direction of the footsteps and greeted calmly, "Hello."

"Hmm, can’t see?" The voice was old and hoarse, sounding at least the age of one who knows destiny.

However, the figure was graceful and slender, like that of a young girl. She wore a cape that covered most of her body and a fox mask that obscured half of her face.

"Yes," Zhan Hanjue replied, "I was in a car accident at fifteen, and my eyes have been blind ever since."

"Was it because of the accident? The Zhan Family is a prestigious family; didn’t they take you to a better hospital for treatment?"

"We visited many hospitals, but none had any effect. Two years ago, I heard about Divine Doctor Bai Zhi’s superb skills and have been seeking out information ever since but without success. Fortunately, my wife discovered the Divine Doctor’s whereabouts, giving me the chance to seek treatment."

"Ningwan, that child, I also watched her grow up," Bai Zhi said slowly. "However, her marrying you was unexpected for me. She should have told you that seeking treatment from me requires a price. This price isn’t necessarily money or possessions; it could be something else. Whatever I want or ask for, will you agree?"

"Yes." Zhan Hanjue answered without hesitation.

Bai Zhi thought secretly; he truly is desperate for treatment, willing to agree to anything.

"Alright, today I will ask two questions. If your answers satisfy me, I will treat you," Bai Zhi said.

"Alright, speak, Divine Doctor," Zhan Hanjue said.

"The first question, I want to know the details of the car accident fifteen years ago."

"Why? Is the accident related to the treatment?" Zhan Hanjue asked.

Bai Zhi replied, "It’s unrelated, but an innocent person involved in the accident was an old friend of mine, so I want to know the details at that time."

"Regarding that accident report, I can have my assistant find all the information. But since they were old friends, why is the Divine Doctor only inquiring now?"

"Cough, what does that have to do with you?" Bai Zhi said displeased, "You just need to answer my question; the rest is not for you to ask or know. Is it you asking me, or me asking you?"

"Naturally, the Divine Doctor asking me."

"Then you answer truthfully. I don’t need any materials; I just want to hear it from you personally. Many things sound different depending on who tells them. As the person involved, I want to hear your perspective."

"That day, my father and I were invited to a dinner. Our car was on a bridge when a truck came towards us. The driver tried to evade the truck but crashed into another car on the right, and both cars fell into a deep pit. My father, the driver, and a couple in the other car died on the spot. Only I and a girl from the other car survived. That’s what happened that day."

"But I heard that Mr. Zhan’s aunt, Lady Leng, coveted the Zhan Family’s inheritance and targeted you and your father, is that true?" Bai Zhi asked again.

Zhan Hanjue said, "Those are just rumors. The Leng Family is also a wealthy family, and Lady Leng is my father’s biological sister. How could she do such a thing? If there was anyone deliberate, I suspect it was the couple in the other car who offended someone else. They shouldn’t have suddenly veered onto our lane, causing both cars to fall into the pit. Their car must have suffered an accident that caused it to go out of control."

Bai Zhi couldn’t help but widen her eyes. Is that so?

She thought carefully but couldn’t recall what had happened then, furrowing her brow and clenching her fist, her nails digging into her palm to calm herself.

"Divine Doctor, I hope you won’t tell my wife, Ye Ningwan, about this matter," Zhan Hanjue pleaded.

"Why?" Bai Zhi was puzzled.

Zhan Hanjue sighed, "My wife, Ye Ningwan, was the only child who survived from the other car. She was young then and doesn’t know about these things. If she knew her parents might have been murdered, she’d be very upset."

"You do care about her," Bai Zhi remarked. "I know your marriage to her was accidental. Yet, living together daily, have you developed genuine feelings for her?"

"Is this the second question?" Zhan Hanjue asked.

Bai Zhi answered, "Yes."

"She is my wife; it’s my duty to protect her completely." Zhan Hanjue replied firmly.

Bai Zhi frowned. Is this liking her or not liking her?

"Divine Doctor, I’ve answered all that I should. Can we start the treatment?" Zhan Hanjue reminded.

Bai Zhi cleared her throat, "Fine, I’ll take your pulse first and then check your eyes."

She stepped forward, placing her hand on Zhan Hanjue’s wrist first, and then asked him to close his eyes to examine his eyeballs.

Her hand was also disguised, wearing a fake skin to make it appear as rough as an elderly person’s hand.

After checking, she said in a low voice, "Your eyeballs are not damaged; it should be curable. I’ll give you some ointment. Apply it for a course of treatment and see how it goes. If effective, we can continue next time. Your eyes have been blind for years and won’t recover overnight. Be patient, don’t rush."

"I understand," Zhan Hanjue nodded.

Bai Zhi gave the middle-aged woman a glance, signaling Zhan Hanjue to lean back. She applied a pre-prepared ointment to his eyes, placed an eye mask on him, and let him rest there.

She then turned and went to the left room.

After a while, the curtain on the right rustled and Ye Ningwan came out.

"Ye Ningwan?" Zhan Hanjue called with his eyes closed.

Ye Ningwan replied, "It’s me, how is it? What did Divine Doctor Bai Zhi say?"

"Weren’t you next door, didn’t you hear it?" Zhan Hanjue asked.

Ye Ningwan said, "I was next door, but there’s a door inside. Once closed, I couldn’t hear. Are you applying ointment? How does it feel?"

"A bit cool, but very comfortable," Zhan Hanjue answered.

Ye Ningwan said, "That’s good; you just keep it on. I’ll go talk to Divine Doctor Bai Zhi about the aftercare when we get home."

With that, she walked towards the left room.

After a while, two people walked out from inside.

One was Ye Ningwan, and the other was Bai Zhi, still masked and wearing a cape.

Zhan Hanjue, his eyes closed, only heard the footsteps of the two people.

Then, Bai Zhi’s voice sounded, "I’ve explained the aftercare to your wife. Listen to her when you get home and don’t act rashly. She has some medical knowledge taught by me, enough to take care of you."

"Yes, Zhan Hanjue, I’ll take good care of you," Ye Ningwan immediately chimed in.

Zhan Hanjue said, "I understand, thank you, Divine Doctor."

"You’re welcome, alright, once you finish with the ointment, you can leave."

After Bai Zhi finished speaking, Zhan Hanjue soon heard footsteps back into the left room.

Once he finished the ointment and wiped off any residue, Ye Ningwan promptly and attentively helped him up.

"How is it, feeling any better?" Ye Ningwan waved a hand in front of him.

Zhan Hanjue pushed her hand away, "She’s a doctor, not a deity, how could I regain my sight just after applying the ointment?"

Ye Ningwan stuck out her tongue, "I don’t understand; forgive my ignorance."
