CHAPTER 265: CHAPTER 265: GROWING UP TOGETHER

The driver was also covered in cold sweat and quickly explained, "I was driving fine, then suddenly a car barged in, and we crashed."

The people from that car had already gotten out, but only the car was hit; they were unharmed.

A woman got out and immediately started yelling at them, "How do you drive? Are you blind?"

The driver had no choice but to open the door and get out to negotiate with her.

Unexpectedly, the other person refused to relent and forcefully banged on their car door, demanding Zhan Hanjue and Ningwan to get out.

"You look like just a driver. I’m not talking to you. Get your boss out here. I want to negotiate with your boss."

"She insists on seeing you," Ningwan said.

The two exchanged a look, their eyes full of meaning.

Zhan Hanjue said, "You stay in the car; I’ll get out."

"I’ll go with you."

"No need, it’s safer for you in the car." Zhan Hanjue held her down, then pushed the car door and got out himself.

"Finally willing to get out, huh? So how are you going to handle this?" The woman snorted coldly and questioned with her arms crossed upon seeing Zhan Hanjue get out.

Zhan Hanjue’s eyes were cold and sharp as he scrutinized the woman, appearing to be in her thirties, a very ordinary woman.

"How do you want to resolve this?" Zhan Hanjue asked.

The woman said, "It’s simple. Either we settle it privately, or we go public. Privately means you pay up, publicly means I call the police. Either way, I feel I’m not at fault."

Zhan Hanjue looked towards the driver.

The driver immediately raised his hand and swore, "Boss, I swear, this wasn’t my fault."

"There’s a dashcam in the car. Let the police decide who’s at fault. Call them, report this." Zhan Hanjue ordered the driver.

The driver nodded and reluctantly took out his phone to call the police.

The woman didn’t expect Zhan Hanjue to actually call the police, glaring at him in anger.

However, the driver had already called, and she had no choice but to wait with the driver for the police.

Zhan Hanjue certainly wouldn’t wait here.

So he returned to the car and told Ningwan to get out and leave with him in another car.

"What’s going on?" Ningwan asked.

Zhan Hanjue said, "Just a simple car accident. She’s being unreasonable, wanting compensation. The police are already involved."

"Is it really that simple?" Ningwan frowned.

"Not as complicated as you think. We’ll take the car behind." Zhan Hanjue said, holding her hand as he got out.

Ningwan followed him out and glanced at the woman.

The woman also saw Ningwan and showed a surprised expression.

"Tang Xiaowan?"

She called out the name of her mother.

Ningwan paused, glanced at Zhan Hanjue, her eyes seemingly saying, "See, I told you it wouldn’t be this simple."

Zhan Hanjue frowned deeply, instructing the bodyguards in the car behind to park and get out.

They had left in a hurry and hadn’t brought Wangyue along.

It seemed she’d have to accompany them next time they went out.

"You’re not Tang Xiaowan, the age doesn’t match. You must be much younger than her. What is your relationship with Tang Xiaowan, and why do you look so much alike?" The woman asked, looking at Ningwan.

Ningwan said, "I do have a family relationship with Mrs. Wan. But what is your relationship with her?"

"I’m Tang Lu, Tang Xiaowan’s cousin. You say you’re related to her? I don’t know of any relative like you. Unless you’re from her mother’s side of the family? No, that can’t be right. Her mother’s side of the family is all gone, so how did you just pop up as a relative?" The woman questioned in confusion.

"Cousin?" Ningwan frowned.

Tang Lu said, "Yes, cousin, although we don’t look alike. But we are first cousins. So what is your relationship with her? If you really are relatives, then we’ll drop today’s matter."

"She is my aunt, and I only just found out about this. Since we’re family, we’ll provide whatever compensation is necessary. Why don’t you leave a business card so we can stay in touch?" Ningwan said.

Tang Lu said, "Since the police are already involved, compensation is out of the question, so it’s just bad luck for me. But since we’re relatives, let’s exchange phone numbers!"

After speaking, Tang Lu took out her business card and handed one to Ningwan.

Ningwan saw that it had a company’s name written on it, with her position as a procurement manager.

"I’m sorry, I don’t have a business card, but I can give you my phone number." Ningwan quickly recited her phone number.

Tang Lu noted it down and even dialed Ningwan’s phone.

Upon hearing the ring of Ningwan’s phone, she smiled and said, "Looks like you weren’t lying. Some people just love to mess with others. By the way, is this man your boyfriend or husband? He’s really handsome."

"This is my husband, Zhan Hanjue," Ningwan introduced.

Tang Lu sighed, "Indeed, good looks bring good fortune. Tang Xiaowan was pretty and could marry Wan Yufeng. You’re also pretty, and you could marry such an exceptional man. People like us, with ordinary looks, can only work hard, marry an ordinary man, divorce, and live an ordinary life."

"Aunt, you’re being modest. Not everyone can be a procurement manager. It’s better to rely on your own abilities than anything else. That’s the long-term way." Ningwan comforted her.

Tang Lu, feeling euphoric, laughed and said, "Ah, you really know how to talk, much better than your aunt. Your aunt married a good man and looks down on us poor relatives, always putting on airs. Isn’t she tired?"

At this moment, the traffic police arrived.

Tang Lu hurriedly said, "Alright, I won’t chat with you anymore. The traffic police are here; I need to handle the accident."

Ningwan quickly said, "Aunt, why not let our driver stay and handle this? Do you have any pressing matters? If so, we can take you there first, so you won’t be delayed."

"Is that alright?" Tang Lu asked.

Zhan Hanjue spoke from the side, "No problem."

After speaking, he gave the driver a look.

The driver quickly said, "No problem, I can handle things here, you all go ahead."

Tang Lu said, "Alright then, you all look like wealthy people, so you probably won’t take advantage of me. I’ll sign off and leave, as I do have some urgent matters to attend to."

Ningwan smiled slightly.

After she signed off, they invited her into the car, instructing the driver to head to the location she mentioned.

In the car, Tang Lu closely observed Ningwan from up close and sighed again, "You really look just like her in her younger days. But your eyes are nicer, she always had that frail look, as if everyone was bullying her. You’re different though, your eyes are bright and sharp, it’s a pleasant sight."

"Thank you, Aunt, for the compliment. But do you not get along with my aunt?" Ningwan asked, puzzled.

Tang Lu shook her head, saying, "It’s not about getting along or not, she was a beauty from a young age, and I was just ordinary. How close can a beauty and an ordinary person be? Standing in front of her, I’m just a sidekick. It’s not just me, everyone beside her is her sidekick. Nobody wants to be too close to her. But since we’re relatives and grew up together, it’s not bad, just an ordinary family relationship."
