Becoming The Bigshot's Only Love After Breaking Her Engagement
Chapter 368: Can I Hug You?
CHAPTER 368: CHAPTER 368: CAN I HUG YOU?
"Alright, alright, I believe you. But I’m tired now, very tired and exhausted. I’m going back to my room to rest." Ningwan didn’t want to get entangled with him any further.
Zhan Hanjue nodded and followed her into the elevator.
When Ningwan reached the door of her room, she found that Zhan Hanjue was still following her. She couldn’t help but say, "You’re not going to share a room with me, are you? Don’t tell me the hotel is fully booked. As far as I know, there are still many vacant rooms in this hotel."
"I know, I’m staying next door to you." Zhan Hanjue took out a room card and opened the door to the room next door.
Ningwan: "..."
Feeling a bit awkward, she quickly opened her door and rushed inside as if escaping.
Zhan Hanjue smiled, opened his door, and went inside too.
However, in the middle of the night, Ningwan’s phone suddenly rang.
"Hello, Doctor Wu."
"Miss Ye, please come to the hospital quickly, a large number of infected patients have come for treatment. This situation might be more serious than we imagined. Also, bring your toiletries, it’s likely that the participating medical staff won’t be able to go back to prevent infecting their families."
"Alright, I understand." Ningwan hung up, quickly packed her things, and headed out.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she opened the door, she saw Zhan Hanjue coming out from another door.
"Why are you up?" Ningwan asked in surprise.
There wasn’t a trace of sleepiness on Zhan Hanjue’s face. Looking at Ningwan, he said, "I was afraid something would happen in the middle of the night, so I couldn’t sleep. Are you leaving? Is the situation more serious?"
"You really... stayed up all night, paying attention to my side?" Ningwan was surprised.
Zhan Hanjue nodded.
Ningwan let out a small laugh, feeling a mix of emotions inside.
However, there was no time for sentimentality; she immediately took a deep breath and said, "Yes, I’m leaving, not sure when I’ll be back. Zhan Hanjue, take care of yourself and don’t fall ill."
Zhan Hanjue nodded.
A wave of indescribable sadness surged in Ningwan’s heart.
Even though she had been abroad for four years, and faced life-and-death situations before, it was never as sad as this.
Indeed, some things are better left unseen; once touched, they become addictive.
"Can I hug you?" Zhan Hanjue asked.
Ningwan shook her head. "No, there are many sources of infection, avoid close contact."
"Just for a moment, we are wearing masks." Zhan Hanjue pleaded.
Ningwan pursed her lips, wanting to refuse.
However, Zhan Hanjue quickly stepped forward and hugged her briefly, then let go before she had the chance to refuse.
Ningwan’s eyes turned red as she hurried away.
Zhan Hanjue watched her retreating figure, feeling a mix of emotions himself, and his nose tingled.
Soon, he laughed at himself mockingly.
Since when had he become so sentimental and easily affected by emotions?
However, because decisions were made promptly, the public was made aware of the severe nature of this virus outbreak.
Thus, very soon, aside from those already infected, the rest of the population was under control.
Ningwan promptly researched a traditional Chinese medicine that could prevent the infection, and after it was distributed, the cases of new infections greatly reduced.
Taking advantage of this break, the medical experts devoted themselves wholeheartedly to finding a treatment, and eventually discovered a solution.
It was immediately put into action, significantly reducing the mortality rate.
Finally, Ningwan and the others could breathe a sigh of relief.
"Another patient arrived today, so handsome!"
"Yes, yes, I saw him too. I thought he was a celebrity. I even searched him up only to find out he wasn’t. But he’s truly more handsome than celebrities."
Ningwan overheard the nurses chatting as she passed by the nurse’s station.
"But he’s too aloof, wouldn’t let us help him with wiping. His body already has a rash, yet he’s still so stubborn."
"Handsome guys, naturally they have a bit of a temper. His name is really nice too, Zhan Hanjue; it’s such a beautiful name."
Ningwan’s expression froze, and she stopped in her tracks.
"Who were you talking about just now?"
She inquired from the chatting nurses.
The nurse, seeing it was her, quickly responded, "Doctor Ye, we were talking about the patient who was just brought in. He’s so handsome, you should go take a look."
"What’s his name again?" Ningwan asked again.
"Zhan Hanjue, isn’t it such a beautiful name?" the nurse said excitedly.
"Which room is he in?" Ningwan inquired.
"Room 502."
Ningwan immediately ran towards the ward.
When she pushed the door open, sure enough, she saw Zhan Hanjue lying on the hospital bed.
Ningwan frowned deeply and strode inside.
Her entry startled Zhan Hanjue awake.
Zhan Hanjue opened his eyes and looked at her, surprised. "Why are you here?"
He had specifically told people not to inform Ningwan about this because he was afraid she’d find out.
Ningwan walked silently to his side, forcibly pulling open his clothes to check the rash on his chest.
Fortunately, though there was a rash, it wasn’t very serious.
"Why didn’t you tell me when I’m right here in the hospital?" Ningwan said angrily.
Hanjue felt downcast. "I didn’t want you to know."
"The nurses said you wouldn’t let anyone apply medication on you," Ningwan continued.
Zhan Hanjue felt embarrassed.
He could apply it himself on his chest, but he couldn’t reach his back. However, he didn’t want to undress in front of others.
"At such a critical time, you’re still being fussy. Take your clothes off, I’ll apply it for you," Ningwan said coldly.
Zhan Hanjue smiled, looked at her with amusement, and asked, "Do you really want to do it for me?"
"Nonsense, I’m a doctor," Ningwan glared at him.
Zhan Hanjue quickly took off his clothes.
Seeing his well-defined abs, unchanged over the years, Ningwan couldn’t help but feel her heart racing.
Fortunately, she was wearing a mask so he couldn’t see the blush spreading on her face.
She went to wash her hands, then poured the medicine on her hands, and applied it on his back, massaging it in.
Actually, it only needed application to slowly permeate.
However, she wanted the medicine to work better and faster, so she massaged it in further.
"How did you get infected?" Ningwan asked.
Zhan Hanjue, feeling aggrieved, said, "I don’t know, I listened to you, stayed in the hotel properly, and didn’t go out. But still, I got infected."
"Zhan Hanjue, you wouldn’t have deliberately infected yourself just to see me, would you?" Ningwan frowned and asked.
Zhan Hanjue immediately explained, "How’s that possible? I’m not dumb. I wouldn’t risk my life like that. I really don’t know how it happened. I was afraid you’d find out, so I didn’t dare let anyone tell you, worried that you’d despise me."
"Despising you is an exaggeration. Forget it... It is what it is, focus on getting better," Ningwan said, unwilling to continue chastising him.
"But seeing you right after coming in, thinking about it now, getting infected wasn’t all bad," Zhan Hanjue suddenly said in a low voice.
Ningwan rolled her eyes. "Sorry, I’m a doctor, not a nurse. You have a mild case, you don’t need my treatment."
"But you’ll still take care of me, right?" Zhan Hanjue held her gloved hand.
"No,"
Ningwan flatly refused.
"You will."
Zhan Hanjue looked at her deeply, full of certainty.
"Fine, I will."
Ningwan, under his intense gaze, sighed and had to admit.
She didn’t know if it was her care or Hanjue’s good health, but in just two days, he was discharged, having recovered.
However, just as he was discharged, Ningwan found herself in trouble again.
