CHAPTER 75: CHAPTER 75: A MOM YOU DON’T WANT TO MESS WITH
Ye Ningwan looked at Wu Taotao suspiciously, completely not believing her explanation.
At this moment, Leng Ziqing pushed the door open and came out, seeing Ye Ningwan frowning: "Why are you here?"
Ye Ningwan immediately looked at Wu Taotao, whose gaze drifted elsewhere.
"I came to deliver ointment for Miss Leng. Apply this ointment on her wound three times a day, I guarantee there won’t be any scars," Ye Ningwan said, taking out the ointment.
Leng Ziqing sneered, "No need, take your ointment and leave."
"Leng Ziqing, don’t be so ungrateful," Ye Ningwan scolded angrily.
Wu Taotao hurriedly played peacemaker, taking the ointment: "Senior Brother Leng, Ningning’s ointment is very effective. You can’t delay Miss Leng’s recovery just because you’re angry. Leaving a scar is a big deal for a girl. Ningning, don’t be mad at Senior Brother Leng, he’s just upset because Zhan Hanjue from your family hasn’t come to see her after so long; it’s quite heartless."
"For Taotao’s sake, I won’t argue with you," Ye Ningwan retorted with a cold huff.
After speaking, she pulled Wu Taotao away.
Wu Taotao struggled, "Why are you dragging me? I still have things to do."
"Come out with me, I have something to ask you," Ye Ningwan forcefully pulled her out.
"What is it?" Wu Taotao dared not look at Ye Ningwan, staring at her toes.
Ye Ningwan chuckled, "Wu Taotao, you’ve grown bold, developing a crush so quickly?"
"What? What do you mean? I don’t understand," Wu Taotao pretended to be confused, flustered.
Ye Ningwan pursed her lips, "Stop pretending. I wondered why you were being so kind, bringing people to the hospital, staying to care for them. Turns out, you’ve taken a liking to his cousin. But Taotao, don’t say I didn’t warn you, I don’t know much about this Leng Ziqing, but his mom is definitely not easy to deal with."
"I like Senior Brother Leng, not his mom. What does his mom have to do with me?" Wu Taotao muttered softly.
Ye Ningwan poked her forehead angrily, "Naive, of course it’s related. Mother-in-law relationships are no small matter!"
"You’re overthinking it; we’re nowhere near that stage. Mother-in-law issues are still a long way off," Wu Taotao clung to her arm, acting coy.
Ye Ningwan realized she was right.
They hadn’t even reached that stage yet, so worrying now was a bit premature.
"In any case, be smart, don’t let Leng Ziqing take advantage of you. If he bullies you, be sure to tell me; I won’t let him off," Ye Ningwan warned again.
Wu Taotao nodded vigorously.
"I’m going to see Shao’er now."
Ye Shao was also in this hospital, and Ye Ningwan had brought him many treats.
Wu Taotao nodded, asking her to send her regards to Shao’er on her behalf.
Ye Ningwan went to the hospital room where Ye Shao was staying and heard voices talking inside as she approached the door.
Ye Ningwan couldn’t help frowning. Did Shao’er have friends?
"Knock, knock, knock."
"Come in."
"Sister?"
Ye Shao’s eyes lit up when he saw Ye Ningwan, and he called out in surprise.
Ye Ningwan smiled, carrying the food as she walked in, "Shao’er, sister’s here to see you. How have you been feeling these past few days? Is there any discomfort?"
"No, sister, I’m good. The doctors and nurses here have been very kind to me," Ye Shao quickly replied.
He’d never been treated so nicely before.
At first, their kindness left him at a loss, and it took him days to adjust.
However, he also knew the reason they were so kind to him.
Besides their professional duties, it was also because of his sister. Or rather, because of Mr. Zhan by his sister’s side.
"It’s good that you’re fine. I brought you lots of good food. And this young boy, is he your friend?"
While taking out the food, Ye Ningwan looked at the boy who became nervous upon seeing her, standing aside.
The boy seemed to be about the same age as Shao’er.
However, he was dressed in dirty sportswear, clearly not his own, with sleeves too short by a whole length. His hair was long and unkempt, clearly a child without family care, a stray.
"Sister, this is my friend," Ye Shao answered nervously.
Just like the boy, he was nervous, afraid Ye Ningwan would disdain or get angry.
Ye Ningwan smiled, waved at the boy, "I’m Shao’er’s sister. It’s rare for our Shao’er to have a friend come see him. I brought plenty of food, would you like to try some?"
"No, thank you, sister," the boy immediately waved his hand to refuse.
Ye Ningwan smiled and said, "There’s no need to be polite. I made a lot anyway, Shao’er can’t finish it alone, help him out."
The boy looked hesitantly at Ye Shao.
Ye Shao was thrilled that his sister hadn’t despised him, and quickly said, "Come join us! Sister, his name is Mao Dan, he’s my friend from the orphanage."
"Mao Dan? What a cute name, come join us!" Ye Ningwan said.
She showed no mockery or disdain, moving both Mao Dan and Ye Shao deeply.
"Sister, there’s something I want to discuss with you."
Eating while speaking awkwardly, Ye Shao said.
Ye Ningwan said, "Just say it, no need to be polite with sister."
"Sister, I see you’ve bought me so many new clothes. I can’t wear them all myself, could I give a couple sets to Mao Dan?"
Upon hearing this, Mao Dan quickly shook his head and waved his hands, indicating refusal.
Ye Ningwan smiled and said, "I bought them for you, they’re yours, and you have the right to decide what to do with them. Whether you want to give them away or throw them away, it’s up to you, sister has no opinions."
"Thank you, sister," Ye Shao thanked excitedly.
He quickly looked at Mao Dan, "I’ll give you two sets of my clothes later. You can take a bath here and change into my clothes. Look, your clothes have gotten too small. Is it because I’m not there, they took your clothes again?"
Mao Dan’s eyes grew red, tears rolling down like "plop, plop".
"Brother, sister, you’re both too kind to me. Thank you, thank you," Mao Dan cried and thanked them.
Ye Ningwan took out a handkerchief to wipe Mao Dan’s tears, "You need to be a brave boy and not cry easily. Did someone take your clothes? Are you still at the orphanage?"
Mao Dan nodded, pouting.
Ye Shao explained, "Sister, Mao Dan is only fifteen, not yet old enough to leave. Besides, he loves studying, and staying there ensures he has a household registration and can attend school. Once he’s out, he won’t be able to go to school as he’d have no legal status."
Ye Ningwan looked at Mao Dan with sympathy, a truly unfortunate child.
"Have you had enough to eat?"
After a while, Ye Ningwan gently asked.
Mao Dan nodded.
Ye Ningwan smiled and said, "Then you take your brother’s clothes and go shower, put on the new clothes. If they don’t fit, sister will buy you new ones."
"No need, sister. Just let him wear my clothes, there’s a couple of smaller sets which will fit him perfectly," Ye Shao quickly said.
He then took out the small clothes he had prepared and led Mao Dan to the bathroom, showing him how to use everything.
When Ye Shao came out, Ye Ningwan called him to sit in front of her, "You have a good relationship with this child?"
