CHAPTER 299: CHAPTER 299

Although she didn’t know why she became a sacrifice, Xiaohua didn’t feel any danger. No matter how bizarre the altar looked in front of her, for now, it seemed to be just some clay statues, lifeless things that made it hard for Xiaohua to feel scared.

The only things that seemed somewhat interesting were the colorful, vibrant insects. Almost instinctively, Xiaohua reached out her hand to a few insects.

Old Master Yin watched Xiaohua’s actions with immense tension, not daring to make a sound. In just a few seconds, sweat began to pour out densely from his forehead.

The few insects tested a bit, perhaps genuinely attracted by Xiaohua, and actually crawled onto her arm!

Old Master Yin’s eyes widened, tension gripping him as he focused on the insects and occasionally glanced at the statue, as if anticipating some sort of change.

These insects, whether in the Yin Family’s secret manual or the books Shui Yuhua brought from the Shui Family, had no records at all. He had scoured every book he had access to but found no description of them. Yet, any Gu Worm he owned was terribly afraid of these insects!

In Old Master Yin’s perspective, these were undoubtedly powerful Gu Worms left by the Goddess! Though he didn’t understand their purpose, just looking at their exceedingly beautiful appearance, he knew they were not to be trifled with! With insects, the more beautiful they are, the more poisonous they tend to be!

Old Master Yin hoped to see some change in Xiaohua upon the insects, but regrettably, the insects lingered on her arm for a short while, seemingly finding nothing they wanted, and soon scurried back, burrowing into the jar again.

Feeling a bit helpless and somewhat angry, Old Master Yin rushed to close the clay jar’s lid, but no matter how he tried, he couldn’t move it even slightly or create the slightest gap to peek inside.

The lid, so easily lifted by the light insects, felt unbearably heavy in his hands!

Xiaohua looked curiously at her own hand, then at the clay jar.

Upon seeing Xiaohua, Old Master Yin’s eyes lit up. He grabbed her hand and placed it on the jar: "Open it! Open it!"

Xiaohua’s already bruised hand throbbed with more pain as he pulled her forward. She had no choice but to comply: "Don’t pull Xiaohua! Xiaohua will obey!"

As both of her hands were placed on the jar, Old Master Yin finally let go, staring intently at her hands.

Xiaohua used all her strength, trying to open the clay jar, but it didn’t budge at all, resembling a solid mass without any seams.

"Useless thing!" Old Master Yin struck Xiaohua on the head in disappointment, causing stars to explode before her eyes.

"Since you can’t accomplish this, don’t blame me for showing no mercy." Old Master Yin’s eyes grew cold as he dragged Xiaohua back. Midway, he triggered a mechanism, changing the path to lead elsewhere.

Xiaohua was still dizzy and seeing stars, half-dragged, half-led to another place. This basement was not as bright as the previous one; the walls were lit with more of those tunnel oil lamps, barely illuminating the room.

This room seemed more integral to the tunnel, while the previous hall seemed like something inadvertently unearthed while digging the passage.

The room was stained with blood, and there was a large pit of unknown depth. It was pitch-black inside, yet it seemed something was writhing. Upon a closer look, it turned out the bottom wasn’t visible; instead, there was a thick mass of insects piled together, moving as if the whole pit was squirming.
