Chapter 82: Pizza
CHAPTER 82: CHAPTER 82: PIZZA
Fei Ying was utterly puzzled. He had seen everything the Western Region Merchant sold. After boiling, the milk could barely be consumed, but that thing called cheese had such a strange taste and texture, with a hint of fermented stink. How could it taste good?
Thinking this way, he headed straight to the kitchen. Lin Qing hesitated for a moment, saw Liu Lingshi moving around, and decided not to follow. Instead, he went to find his junior sister.
The true foodie is often revealed at moments like this.
For someone like Fei Ying, at his level of a foodie, women could only affect the speed at which he picked up his chopsticks!
Fei Ying snuck up to the side of the kitchen and surprisingly saw someone. Although this person’s clothes were tattered, they were relatively clean, and he was quite handsome. He definitely wasn’t a beggar.
Considering he looked decent, Fei Ying thought for a moment, squeezed over, and whispered, "Make some space for me, let me have a look!"
Chen Muxue mixed flour, milk, sugar, a pinch of salt, and melted butter with hot water. It was supposed to be olive oil, but it wasn’t available here. Regular pork lard used for cooking wasn’t suitable for this, but butter’s inherent milky aroma made it quite harmonious.
There was no yeast here, so Chen Muxue found some old dough left at the inn to use as yeast. This old dough was a mature dough that had already been leavened, known as the starter in the north, or dough head in some places, serving the same purpose as yeast.
The inn usually prepared some buns or steamed buns, so they definitely had this old dough. Families that regularly ate dough foods wouldn’t lack it.
She kneaded the ingredients into a dough, rounded it, and let it proof for twenty minutes. Then she divided the dough into four parts and let it relax for fifteen minutes.
"Dough balls, are you making steamed buns?" Cen Lizhui poked one of the dough portions and got his hand slapped by Chen Muxue.
"Slice it, into strips." Chen Muxue handed the Mozzarella Cheese to Cen Lizhui. The cheese and the knife had been chilled, making it easier to slice.
Let Cen Lizhui wield a sword or knife in a spar, he’d have no problem. But with a kitchen knife in his hand, it seemed to work against him somehow, feeling awkward no matter what he tried.
"Are you cutting strips or lumps?" Chen Muxue couldn’t stand it anymore.
Cen Lizhui felt a bit embarrassed, "It must be because this knife is too dull..."
Just as he said that, Chen Muxue took the kitchen knife, and with a few swift moves, fine strips seemed to float out automatically, with the cheese visibly diminishing in size.
Not only Cen Lizhui but even Fei Ying and Chu Wuyi, who were secretly watching, were dumbfounded.
"Her knife skills are one in a million!" Fei Ying marveled, looking at Chen Muxue with increasing admiration.
Chu Wuyi quietly stepped back. This fellow was quite odd... Although he himself was being sneaky too.
Initially, he was just hesitating over whether or not to ask that girl to help cook a bowl of porridge. But before he could make up his mind, this sneaky fellow mistook him for a comrade.
He couldn’t fathom why he ended up sneaking around too!
After drinking the porridge cooked by that girl, his sister’s condition improved for a few days. But now she refused to eat anything again. She had mentioned the porridge was delicious, so perhaps if he could get another bowl, she might be able to eat.
But first, he didn’t have a penny to his name, and second, he didn’t seem to have anything of value to offer. He truly didn’t know how to ask...
Chen Muxue was unaware of the two people over there. She swiftly sliced the cheese into strips, and the dough was just about ready.
