CHAPTER 156: ON ONE CONDITION

"I...don’t want to." The windrend responded fearfully, she believed that this human would really attack it if it changed back to its bird form.

She would definitely die if she got hit by any more lightning.

And wasn’t this person using the space element earlier? How could it have the lightning element as well?

Anyways, that wasn’t its main concern; it had to think of how to survive first.

Alex frowned slightly when he saw that the windrend didn’t want to return to its bird form, this was putting him in a difficult position.

"If you die like this, will you return to your true form or stay like this?" He asked after some thought.

The windrend stared at him with a suspicious expression after hearing the question, she felt that the other party’s question was a trap.

So instead of replying, she asked why the other party wanted to know about such a thing.

"Do I need to explain myself to you?" Alex hissed in an icy tone, startling the windrend to near tears.

"I-i don’t know if I’ll return to my original form or not, I probably won’t since I need to do the transformation willingly!" The windrend screamed in response, terrified of this masked human.

’Hmm, then it’s probably best not to kill her else I’ll lose all my money. How should I persuade her now?’ Alex thought to himself while continuing to stare at the windrend.

Because of his mask, the windrend was able to see his expression and thought that Alex was just staring at her in silence; this made her very uncomfortable, didn’t he like her answer?

"Umm, human. Sorry, I meant great mage. Could you forgive me for attacking you earlier and talking badly? I’m not really a bad bird and was just annoyed after escaping from home. Please, if you let me go, I promise never to trouble you or any other human again!" The girl that the windrend transformed said to Alex with a pitiful expression.

"You have already caused enough trouble by causing this weather change, I can’t let it slide," Alex replied before adding in his thoughts. ’Killing you and selling your core is the only compensation I’ll accept.’

"About that, I can stop it right now. I didn’t really mean to trouble anyone, I just wanted to scare the humans in the nearby cities so no one would trouble me. That’s why I came to this part of the continent where there aren’t powerful humans, I didn’t expect to meet you here." The windrend cried out in her defence. After saying that, the wind that was still blowing weakly immediately stopped and everything returned to normal.

Alex fell silent, the words of the windrend were logical but she had indeed miscalculated. Even if it wasn’t him, the Archmage, Clint, and William were already looking for her. Had they gotten here first, Alex was sure of what would have happened to them based on the bird’s earlier attitude.

"You said something about running from home? So that means there are more of you. Tell me everything." Alex suddenly said.

The windrend didn’t dare keep him waiting and immediately started talking.

After minutes of listening, Alex got a new understanding of this world he had transmigrated into.

Outside the seven continents were the vast seas, endless forests, and countless forbidden domains. Powerful magic beasts roamed those places and there were even Calamity rank magic beasts!

The windrend was from one of the forests outside the continent where she lived with other magic beasts of her kind, they had a few calamity rank magic beasts and Divine rank beasts in their forest.

As there were few with high rank, the elders of her species wanted to pair her up with another talented male windrend but she wasn’t ready for marriage.

So, to avoid getting married, she ran away from home. She had flown for months at full speed before finally getting here and had made sure to avoid places with powerful humans.

Alex was stunned by how far the place that this windrend came from was, for it to have flown for months at full speed before reaching here.

One has to recall that it was faster than Alex, who had reached the Saint mage rank; he was only able to catch up by adding his system skill and space spell.

Anyways, Alex got a new idea after listening to the story of the windrend. He decided not to try and kill it anymore.

Since there were other windrends out there and even stronger ones, wouldn’t he earn more if he had this one lead him to them instead?

But that would be a plan for the future, he didn’t have the time to go on such a far journey right now. In the meantime, he had to think of a way to keep this windrend by his side without it causing chaos. Plus, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to use it as a flying mount.

He could ride it as Mr Chen and let it protect his family while he was away as Alex.

Alex nodded after thinking of this, his plan was perfect. A secret mount for Mr Chen and a secret bodyguard for his family.

After concluding in his thoughts, he focused his eyes on the girl in front of him.

"I’ll let you live, but on one condition," Alex stated.

The face of the girl flashed with joy and worry after hearing Alex’s words, but she still nodded anyway; she didn’t have a choice.

"Be my mount," Alex announced.

Windrend "..."

"Eh? Ehhhhhh??" She exclaimed with a shocked expression as her face turned red from blushing too hard.

"What, you don’t want to?" Alex questioned, his voice was toneless.

"N-no, that wasn’t what I meant. Asking me to be your mount so suddenly. For humans, doesn’t that mean I’ll belong to you and you can do whatever you want to me?" The windrend said in one breath while rubbing her slender arms together shyly.

Alex was confused as to what she meant at first, but soon understood. His lips twitched behind his mask; he had the urge to go down to the bottom of the canyon and smack this dirty-minded windrend on the head.

"Don’t have unnecessary thoughts, I have no intentions of forming a relationship with a beast," Alex said calmly.

"Oh, ok then. Then I’ll be your mount as long as I don’t have to return." The windrend happily accepted after Alex assured her of her safety. She didn’t have any other choice anyway so it was better to be happy with this outcome.

Staring at the windrend at the bottom of the canyon, Alex felt that having it just accept to be his mount wasn’t enough. He wanted to make sure that it wouldn’t run its mouth or do anything reckless behind his back.

After all, it was going to be looking after his family when he wasn’t around.

’Ugh, it would be easier if I had the summoning element. Forming a contract would guarantee its loyalty.’ Alex thought to himself.

Only one solution came to his mind at this moment, he immediately summoned his system.
