CHAPTER 163: COMPENSATION

The man flinched when Mr Chen asked him that question and he subconsciously took a step backwards.

"N-n-no, of course not. I’m just surprised to see you here." The man tried to explain, still forcing a smile on his face.

"Oh, where did you want me to be so you won’t be surprised? Looks like you are aware of all the places I usually go to." Alex said as he took a step towards the three men.

The three of them panicked, why was Mr Chen twisting their words? They didn’t dare to make any more statements for fear of Mr Chen taking it the wrong way; they didn’t want to end up like their companion, who had been sent through the walls.

Seeing the frightened looks on the men’s faces, Alex paused for a moment before speaking out.

"A worker at your site almost got injured due to uncontrollable circumstances. But not only did you not care about his condition, you even wanted him to pay for your damaged materials which weren’t directly destroyed by him.

Is it because he’s an ordinary human and can’t stand up to you who are mages? Is this how to represent the image of mages? You all are a disgrace." Alex stated, making his voice sound hoarse.

The three men had overwhelmed expressions, and they bowed their heads in apology to Alex.

"Am I the one you should be saying that to?" Alex asked with a sharp tone.

The three flinched and immediately turned toward Zoran who was sitting with his daughter on the bed.

"We are extremely sorry for the way we acted earlier."

"Yes, yes, it was a big mistake on our part; we should have been more sensible."

"Please, forgive us!"

The three of them said almost at the same time, they then turned to Alex’s mother and also apologised for how rudely they had talked to her previously and also apologised on behalf of their friend who had tried to hit her.

Alex’s mother was speechless as she stared at the three mages frantically asking for forgiveness, she then looked at the masked Mr Chen; she felt happy that someone was standing up for her family.

This was what a mage was supposed to be like.

But Alex wasn’t done yet, after making the three men apologise, he ordered them to pay for the cost of his father’s medical bills.

Although he didn’t sustain any injuries and didn’t receive any treatment, a few tests had been done when he was brought here unconscious and the checking out fee had to be paid as well.

The three men happily paid back the money since his mother had paid them before. When they asked if they could leave now, Alex said it wasn’t over yet.

Because Zoran had almost died on their property, he wanted them to compensate him.

Alex demanded that they compensate Zoran with the sum of ten million Zen. He said that this was him being considerate so the three men didn’t argue and transferred the money with bitter hearts. Additionally, they were to pay for the damaged walls of the hospital.

Zoran wanted to refuse the money but Alex didn’t give him the chance, saying that it was the right thing to do.

Since Mr Chen had insisted, how could Zoran refuse? So the money was transferred, and the three men hurriedly left to get their friend, who was still outside, and took him to a different hospital.

They didn’t feel comfortable staying in the same place with Mr Chen, they had been present during the auction and knew how ’petty’ Mr Chen could be.

After the three left, the hospital workers also left; it was now just Alex, his parents, and his sister alone in the hospital ward.

Alex turned to face them and was about to say something when his mother suddenly approached him.

"Thank you for helping us, Mr Chen." She said with a sincere smile on her face.

She didn’t bow this time since Mr Chen had told her not to.

Alex nodded in response before turning to face his father who was sitting on the bed and looking at him. Noticing Mr Chen staring at him, Zoran also stood up and said Thanks.

Alex didn’t stop him, as long as he didn’t bow, it was all right.

"Thank you for helping my parents,"

A small voice came from behind Zoran, it was Emily. The girl was staring at him with shining eyes, like a fan looking at her idol.

Alex smiled behind his mask as he turned and looked at his father.

He explained that what had happened was his fault since he was fighting the beast and had caused it to make the wind to become fierce, Zoran and many others had almost gotten hurt because of him.

For that reason, he was here to compensate them for the trouble that he had caused.

The faces of the couples flashed with shock when they heard that the weather was the doing of a magic beast and Mr Chen had gone to fight it by himself.

The first thing that his mother asked after hearing Alex’s words was.

"That must have been dangerous, are you alright?"

Alex almost burst into laughter when his mother made that comment. He held himself back and didn’t react; he was Mr Chen now, so he shouldn’t do anything that would expose him.

He nodded and took out a Union card.

"This is compensation for almost causing you harm." He said as he handed the card to Zoran.

Zoran stared at the Union card; he knew what it was, but didn’t accept it immediately.

"You don’t need to compensate me, Mr Chen. You were doing the right thing and helping everyone in the city, I don’t blame you for what happened to me. Besides, those men have already given me quite a lot." Zoran explained with an awkward smile on his face.

How could he accept money from Mr Chen? This was Mr Chen that everyone wanted to meet and form connections with, wouldn’t he appear cheap if he accepted money?

Besides, what Mr Chen was doing was for the good of everyone in the city, so he didn’t feel like accepting the compensation.

Alex’s mother thought the same thing as well, Mr Chen was risking his life to keep everyone safe; they should be the ones compensating him.

But Alex didn’t plan to take no for an answer.

"I insist, I’ve compensated a few others too so don’t take it wrongly." Alex passed the black Union card over to his father before turning around to leave.

He stopped at the door of the hospital ward and said without looking back.

"There’s over 600 million Zen in there, use it well and take care of your family."

He disappeared after saying that.

Zoran and his wife stared at the empty space where Mr Chen had been standing just a moment ago with frozen faces, their eyes and mouths wide open.

600 million Zen!

Zoran felt that the card in his hands had turned several times heavier all of a sudden.

After Alex left the hospital with Void Walk, he appeared in a dark corner in the streets before taking off his robe and mask. He then returned to the hospital.

Getting there, he saw that his family were already about to leave.

"You’re here, Alex. Come help me hold this, we are about to go home." His mother said after seeing him. Her eyes went toward his red hair before she glanced at her husband, Zoran was also looking at her.

Both of them were thinking the same thing, Mr Chen’s hair and Alex’s looked the same.

But they shook it off as a coincidence. There was no way that their son was Mr Chen.

"Oh, okay." Alex voided out and proceeded to carry the bag. He glanced at the hole in the wall and pretended to be shocked.

"What happened to the wall?" He asked with wide eyes.

"Big brother, you won’t believe it! Mom was arguing with some men when Mr Chen suddenly appeared and helped, he threw one of them through the wall!" Emily explained to Alex, her voice filled with excitement as if she had just seen an interesting movie.

"Really? Mr Chen was here? Had I come sooner, I would have loved to meet him." Alex sighed in sadness.

His father walked up to him and patted him on the head.

"Don’t worry, you’ll meet him one day."

"Yes, both of you have some similarities anyway, so there might be an opportunity in the future; just make sure to behave in front of him, you’re a good kid after all." His mother said with a loving smile as they walked out of the ward.

Some time passed, and the family finally got him; their parents went in first, while the two siblings followed behind them.

However, they suddenly stopped walking after passing the door; the siblings were unable to pass through with their parents blocking the entrance.

Alex was about to ask what was wrong when his mother suddenly turned to look at him with piercing eyes.

"Alex...did you bring home a wife?" She asked in disbelief.

Alex "..."

He forgot to tell them about Alicia!
