Beta Complex
Chapter 43: An Alpha’s Nature
CHAPTER 43: AN ALPHA’S NATURE
Ethan stares up at the ceiling of his bedroom. For the first time in three months, he has no idea what to do with himself. Usually he would be downstairs at the front counter, or making coffee, or wiping down tables. Working at the restaurant has become his daily routine, but now that he no longer has to do that, he’s unsure of what to do.
He blinks as he counts the random dark spots on the roof. Where did they even come from? Ethan has already enrolled himself for the next semester, which is in three months. One more month left for classes, and then a two month break for both staff and students. His professors are thrilled to be having him back, and one of them even emailed him a guide of what they will be going over. It’s basically a cheat sheet only it doesn’t really give him any answers.
His mother has been interviewing potential part timers, and Leo has been working on his midterm project, so Ethan has been seeing him less and less. When Ethan asked if he could help in a desperate attempt to just do something, Leo immediately declined. ’No sense of fashion’, is what he replied back with.
Ethan purses his lips and runs his hand down his shirt. The beta doesn’t think he’s too bad at it. He thinks he cleans up pretty well. Leo, however, told him fashion is more than just dressing nicely. He said it was about accessories and impressions.
Ethan told him he was being dramatic and then Leo ditched him.
So, with no one else to talk to, Ethan just went to his room to take a nap. However, now that he’s laying in his bed, all he can think about is Zander going down on him. The betas face flushes red and he hides himself beneath his pillow. If the alpha ever brings it up, Ethan can say he doesn’t remember. He was drunk after all, when it happened. So it’s the perfect excuse.
Ethan groans and sits up. Maybe he’ll just go to the library and refresh his memories on what he studied before he dropped out. He packs away his texts and notebooks in the backpack he thought he would never use again, and heads to the library.
"Where are you going?" Someone grabs his arm and makes him hault in the middle of the side walk. The public library is a few feet away from him, the courtyard bustling with people.
Ethan frowns and turns to glare at the person because you just can’t touch someone you don’t know, but his eyes widen when he sees it’s only Beck. Still, he brushes off his hand but smiles.
"What are you doing here?" Ethan holds the straps of his bag, "You’re not working today?"
Beck let’s go of his arm and tucks his hands into his pants. He has a backpack over his shoulder, a dark green sweater on to block out the chilly wind. "No. I have a test coming up so I’m going to study for it."
"Yeah? Then we’re going the same way." Ethan nods towards the large building a few feet away. The public library is huge with a community garden at the back. It’s a popular spot as they also have peacocks on the grounds. People often come just for them alone. "Do you want to study together? Leo ditched me."
Beck laughs and then shrugs, "Sure."

Ethan groans quietly as he lays his cheek on the table. He forgot how taxing it is to study. He remembers most things he learned, so refreshing his memory is easier than he thought. However, his brain feels like it’s been fried in oil.
"Want a snack break?" Beck asks. He sits across from him, a laptop set up with a notebook beside it. He looks so dedicated with the way he set himself up.
Ethan’s stomach growls and he nods his head, "They still have vending machines here, right?"
As the two betas make there way out to the hall, Ethan’s phone vibrates in his pocket. He pulls it out to see a message from Zander. As soon as he sees the alphas contact name, his ears burn. There’s no way he can face him now.
Give Ethan a few drinks and he turns into a wanting whore. He may be exaggerating, but if Ethan is honest, no one has ever put his dick in their mouth before. He’s no where near being a virgin, but a blow job was not something he experienced before the alpha came along.
"Is something wrong?" Beck asks. They pause in front of a vending machine and Ethan scans the contents.
"Not really." Ethan says. He steps up first and after sticking in a dollar bill, chooses a bag of chips. "Have you ever been with an alpha?" As soon as the question leaves his lips, Ethan cringes.
Only Beck doesn’t answer right away. When Ethan steps back to let Beck go next, an awkward silence settles between them.
"Mm," Beck hums before shaking his head. "I find alphas difficult to deal with." He says. He presses the button for a chocolate bar and waits for it to be dispensed. "They may be fun to mess around with for a short period of time." He shrugs. After picking up his choice of snack he turns to face Ethan. "But that’s about it. A long term relationship between a beta and an alpha seems unlikely. Same with a beta and an omega. A beta can’t satisfy an alpha like an omega can and vise versa. So in the end, they will always run towards their matching dynamic."
Ethan blinks at him.
"Did I say something wrong?" Beck asks. He chuckles and leads the way back.
"No." Ethan answers. He pops open his bag and eats. "You’re right, though. It’s in an alphas nature to crave an omega, huh?"
Beck nods his head, "Exactly. To us betas, alphas and omegas are only good for flings." He gasps and spins around, "Not that I’m trying to discriminate or anything. It’s just nature."
